  1. Hi Peter Being a Farmer you will be naturely resilient and would be able to tackle what ever occupation you wanted to! If you are in Henty Vic as Baz indicated you need to talk to David McTernan from Sportsflite Australia who operates at Naracoorte and Mt Gambier and he will be able to offer you good advice. Baz is right in telling you that you better get flying tomorrow because the last best time to start was yesterday. Flying opens up a whole new world of opportunity.....! You just need to recognize it when it happens. Best Regards Ed Ed Herring C.F.I. "Goolwa Recreational Flying School" Goolwa SA
  2. Hi Ron Happy New Year. How is your project? are you back in town? Best Regards Ed
  3. Hi Gang With a touch and go you should return flaps to take off position ( whatever is required for a normal take off ) it is very important to not get confused regarding operation of flaps with a touch and go and a go around ( missed approach ) Best Regards Ed
  4. Hi Dave Make sure you come to NATFLY 2009 as part of your research. You will see that the RA-Aus organisation is absolutely proffesional with safety at the forefront and quality aircraft and training througout! Have fun and be safe Ed
  5. Hi Ron it took a while but i got it Regards Ed
  6. Hi All I think that we should not speculate at all on a public forum. let's wait until the official report is out as i am certain that Middo will write about it in the fullness of time. As it was there was far too much speculation and inuendo on the field at the time. Remember incidents can happen to any of us at any time any wouldn't we rather just read about the facts? Regards Ed
  7. OK you guys i give up. My Wife must be different than the rest because every time i get it wrong she makes me fix it! And that is often........By the way i purchased a book a few years ago with the title "Every Thing Man Knows and Understands About Women"! It was expensive and it has 1000 blank pages.
  8. Hi John You have captured the logical art of making safety training interesting to the reader by getting their attention first up and prolonging the attention span with humour with this concept. Stick to it as it will be a most valuable training and education aid to compliment the excellent RA-Aus website resource we currently have. Meanwhile do not be dispondent about the seemingly small response from this post. I am certain that it is at least partly due to individuals like myself being lean on time and it took a while to get to it. Meanwhile it must be said that your contribution like others, to our cause is enormous and much appreciated. Thank you and keep it up. PLEASE! Best Regards Ed
  9. Welcome to the Forums Baz. The Forums are a great source of all things Recreational Aviation. Are you going to NatFly 2007? We are looking forward to our annual event and it is speeding towards us! Hope to see you there. Best Regards Ed
  10. Like you at first i thought this guy couldn't fly...What is it they say about first impressions? Regards Ed
  11. Hi Ian A Monthly Newsletter would be sensational in my view, particularly with my current situation so that i can catch up with what i inadvertantly missed. Good Idea! Regards Ed

Hi Ron Welcome to the Forums! It's great to see you are still around. We never met but i have always known about you. I worked with your Sister in YMTG and flew 654 regularly before you had it. Have fun with your VP1 and enjoy the forums. Best Regards Ed
  13. Well Guy's & Girl's, Glenn's experience is showing! Above all FLY the Aircraft first. Don't be distracted by the science unless you have the ability to do so! Add speed to counteract the gusts and consider less flap! Regards Ed
  14. Hi Meron My RV6A is still under construction but it is geting there! ( slowly ) Great Aircraft. Welcome to the forums. Lots of good people and information. Regards Ed
  15. Hi Guys The minimum requirement for an RA-Aus Certificate is certainly achievable which is probably why the minimum is set at 20 hours with 5 hours solo. Not many do actually achieve it however, and it is far from the average! There are so many variables and factors which contribute to firstly going solo and ultimately gaining the certificate. At the end of the day even though we all remember our "first solo" with pride, does it really matter when you have logged say, 200 hours? While going solo early is certainly something to brag about...BUT...it is the time in the seat and the knowledge learn't and retained that counts when 200 hours is logged. Good subject this one! Regards Ed
  16. Hi Glen We will be at Natfly 2007. I am looking forward to putting faces to a whole lot of names. Hi Chris Is the Storch on your Avatar 4617? If so i helped put her together and even flew her. Very nice it was. Regards Ed
  17. Hey Glenn Mate! I appreciate your humour but what do you think of the IDEA? ( and i am sure Captain Glenn will look great! ) Regards Ed
  18. Hi Glenn The intent is to maintain the integrety of Ian's group and the logo he designs for it. The members "title" will be the members choice within the boundry's of discretion. Mate, as for "Captain" status if you think you deserve it do it! We are all "Student Pilots" to a degree....! Maybe you will want to stick to it....! Regards Ed
  19. Hi All I have just had a thought. Maybe it has already been considered but what do you think about a members name badge for events such as Avalon & Natfly. It would be great for easy recognition. If Ian designed it and emailed it to us to cut and paste we could put our own names ect on it. What i am thinking of is the size of the standard plastic name tag. What do you all think? Regards Ed
  20. Hey Paul Have you run out of Fuel yet? Regards Ed
  21. Hi Texan Pilots Do we have any updates on our Texan experiences lately? 4618 in performing well and pretty busy at YMBD. I flew her to the SAC www.sportaircraft.org.au annual fly in at Waikerie in October. Great fly in and good weather with lots to do including the flood re-enactment. Waikerie is a great venue with lots of friendly people. Regards Ed
  22. Hi Chris It's good to see the FS Storch S on your Avatar. Great Aircraft and a real buzz to fly. I believe that things are pretty busy aviation wise over your way. Regards Ed
  23. Well done Geoff....i will definately be at Natfly 2007. Natfly is the one event that not even my work can try to stop me from attending. Boss ( the one that pays me ) would not even consider making me work at such a sacred time.Natfly isa greatoportunity to get to know the ones that make the Forums tick. Regards Ed Ed Herring
  24. It might be ugly..........buts it looks practicle....does'nt it? Regards Ed
  25. Hi Guys This is a very good debate and a most important issue. A good lookout at all times and a see and be seen attitude is critical. Fly at the proper quadrantal flight level altitudes ( even below 5000' ) and following the correct procedures in the circuit at all times is a must. With the growth in recreational aviation and the increase in aircraft numbers, discipline and training must be paramount. If you can get the aircraft callsign of any undisciplined activity you can find the owner and subsequently trace it to any offending pilot to establish sensible comunication to resolve your concerns. As for the "overseas" student issue and our difficulty with understanding the radio calls make it your business to know who the schools are that frequent your area and talk to the Chief Pilot or CFI of those schools. Express your concerns and establish a relationship with them. We have done this in SA with Flight Training Adelaide and we work in very well as a result of this. The next point of the "Maintain a proper Lookout" component of AIRMANSHIP, don't forget that there are many airfields ( private and CTAF ) that do not have a radio requirement and as we fly around our greatcountry we may not necessarily have the luxury of hearing a confusing or hard to understand radio call to warn us that there may be another aircraft in our vicinity. Best Regards Ed Ed Herring
