  1. Hi Bruce If only this particular situation was as simple as that! I agree with your tactics and history in the fullness of time will prove you to be correct. But if "they self devour" we also willdisappear in your proverbial puff of smoke. Because even though some may not recognise the fact, we are ALL in this together. A very good reason to pull together. In fact some of the issues already haveahistorywhich promotes concern. The problem is all of us involved in recreational aviation are a part of this issue and we must suport the group which can best manage our interests. The fragmentation amongsome of thegroups must cease. All the organisations involvedhave expertise which is invaluable for the growth of recreational aviation in Australia. Consider this fact...Recreational Aviation is any aviation activity in any aircraft from any sector that is not part of a commercial activity. ( Recreational Training GA or RA-Aus is included ) Surely the time has never been more appropriate than now forall the aviation body's in the countryto work together to form a strong alliance forour future growth. The leaders of these groups must bury their ego'sof the past and be brave and humble enough to admit that they could do it better and be strongerif they were part of the sameTeam. They are the decision makers and we must encourage them to make thecorrect decisions for us.My message to allis, Do Not lose the focus on our recreational aviation future and we must work hard to encourage our leaders, because all of them have good intentions in their own minds. Each one of them are intelligent people withthe knowledge that they are the ones that will be in the History books and as individuals they wouldprefer History to bekind to them. 2. Hi Shifty I think that in reallity it is not important what you initially learn and get your licencein.Importantly however, you must be convinced thatthe training is conducted in a proffessional manner in a facility that offers you what you expect from it. It is very important that you are comfortable in the Aircraft and with the Instructor and the Environment. To give you a clue, it is smart to be patient and just hang around a school for a while and judge the atmosphere. You will soon work it out if you are going to "fit" or not. This is important because you are going to invest a lot of time and money there! A convenient location is next on the list of prioritys and of course it needs to fit with your personal budget! Once you have your licence is the time to try the others if you still find the need. There are so many types that are very nice aircraft and available to fly. You finish up with a much better understanding of your personel wishes and needs once you have a Licence and some experience. My guess is you will change your mind on your preferences a lot as you go ( yes us blokes do it too ) So don't worry too much about the type just yet. Eventually you will settle on the type that suits your needs. Remember the meaning of patience andin the interimgo flying with an agenda to have fun in an environment you can afford and are comfortable with. I probably haven't really answered your initial question and because you have some experience you will have the situation nutted out but an individuals aircraft preference is very much a personal choice so my message is simply to enjoy your flying! Regards Ed Ed Herring
  3. Hi Nosmo Interesting aircraft. http://www.studiomoonart.com/whitelightning.htmChris Hamilton in Mount Gambier SA had a kit in Australia for a while. He subsequently sold it and maybe this is where it went? Quite an impresive machine. Regards Ed
  4. Hi Geoff My life long tried and proven KIS principle works, soif you can keep it simple do it! And thanks to Ian we have this forum to share idea's and wisdom. Regards Ed
  5. Hi Geoff Let me know if it works for you. Regards Ed
  6. Hi Ian Its a matter of just trying it. A number of us over here do it this way. Very simple and very cheap. Regards ED
  7. Hi Geoff Just talk normally as the aircraft intercom takes care of the rest. Regards Ed
  8. Hi All I use the earpiece kit that came with the phone. ( CDMA ) I simply put the earpiece in my ear and stuff the mic in the headset cup and bingo! I think the aftermarket things cost about $7.00. It works for me. Regards Ed Ed Herring
  9. ( Anyone got any thoughts what will happen to the RAA if and when bottom end GA aircraft are put on the registor as is being touted at the moment? Its hard to believe the grass root aircraft will get much attention if 150's and Pipers become available) Hi John What ever happens we will deal with it. "grass root" aircraft WILL survive regardless of what happens just the same, but it is up to us!As recreational aviation enthusiasts, if we show respect and acknowledge all aviators and aircraft we will all continue to thrive and do our bit to ensure the survival of our grass root aircraft and pilots. Regards Ed PS Dons post makes sense to me....Spot on Don! Ed Herring
  10. Hi Jake I have been told more than once that our Texan TC Strobes light up like a spaceship with the Whelan Lens and the cost effective alternative strobe power pack that you fitted. I have not yet seen it flying because i have been hogging her for myself still. BUT the othersare starting to wise up so i suppose i will have tohand her over soon. Perhaps being able to check out the strobes may be in incentive to watch from the ground...just perhaps..! PS it is a nice feeling knowing that we are visible....! Regards Ed Ed Herring

  15. Hi All All incidents need to be treated with sensitivity and with respect to those involved and to their family's.We can speculate as much as we like, but you have to be involved to know what really happened. I do agree that we must all learn from any incident so from that perspective it is better to know what happened sooner rather than later so that we can use the knowledge to prevent something happening to us or others. Due tothe apparent seriousness of the incident that has prompted this discussion, it has a high probability of being reported officially to the RA-Aus, ( as all incidents are meant tobe ) so giventime the resultswill be published in our Magazine. Meanwhile it is so very important to be careful what werepeat what is spoken or written in the Media. The persons involved have the inherent problems from the incident without any one adding to their dilema.Well done tothe previous posts that showed the required sensitivity. Regards Ed
  16. Hi Jake It's great to see you found this Forum. The Garmin SL40 was chosen for our Fly Synthesis Texan TC for the reasons you have stated. It is interesting that Tony alsopicked the Garmin GTX 327 Transponder after he did a lot of research. I am aware that you were well informed about the ADSB. Do you have any more information on this? Regards Ed Ed Herring
  17. Hi Arthur I totally agree with you about the Lightwing. However i have it on good authority that the machine in question( add #462 ) was so good that ithas been sold to South Australia.A new onewould be nice and good second hand ones appear from time to time. Check out the website. Regards Ed Ed Herring
  18. This is impressive to say the least.
  19. Hi Ken You have opened the door to a different aspect of the world. And guess what...you did it yourself...yes, it is the flight you never forget and when you are first Solo your dreams have been realized. From now on it just gets better. Congratulations and well done. Regards Ed Herring
  20. Hi Rob I partly agree with you about media sensationalism! However if we don't give them something to write about or take a photo of, in the first place they won't get it wrong! Regards Ed Ed Herring
  21. (modern ultralights V Grass roots) Hi Don This is a subject that i am passionate about. If you consider that the basics of aerodynamics and the rules of the sky under the KIS princible, are the same for all Pilot's and or Passengers alike regardless of what we fly and we alldeserve the same respect. We as individuals must ensure that what we are flying is airworthy and we have had proper training. We must also act responsibly to play our part incontinuing to grow the broader community's perception of our "sport". Don, i agree with you that our objective should be to promote ourselves and our aircraft in the most positive manner possible. But the aircraft type matters not...! Some pilots fly to a budget and some fly whatever they want to. The "fantastic plastics" are increasing the population rapidly and thats exciting. We will allways have the "grass roots" types and we must work at preserving them if we have to. Above all let's go flying and do it safely. Thanks for bringing this subject up because as i said i am passionate about it. I am also passionate about the KIS princible! Best Regards Ed Herring

    Some Drifter Pics

Hi Darren and Emma Well done on your website. It looks like you guys know how to have fun. Fly safely. PS Some clouds have big lumps of aluminum in them! If they stay in there we will be fine! Regards Ed Herring
  23. Hi Robert Welcome to the Forum. I am pleased that the Technam and the RA-Aus has brought you back to flying. Recreational Aviation is growing rapidly and you are part of the reason for this. Safe flying and have fun. Regards Ed
  24. Hi Chris This forum shows once again it's true value when people such as you turn up. I envy your experience because i considered Hang Gliding some years back and then came up with a whole lot of excuses why i didn't need to do it. Your Farm looks great by the way and thank you for sharing with us. As much as i love the J160 for lots of reasons, the first being Australian and the second being verygood value, and i ccould list plenty of others. With my experience with the Fly Synthesis Storch ( i am instructing in one at the moment)http://www.flysynthesis.com.au/storch.aspperhaps you should consider it. One of the options is to fly with the doors off, which gives you the "outdoor sensation".Also there is a folding wing option. This combined with it's STOL performance and good cross country capability, makes it perfectfor what you seem to be looking for. However having said all that, i am not far off trying a trike with Rob Hatswell of Gawler Microlights as it has appealed to me for some time and maybe after the experience i may have another view. The really good thing about flying todayis that we all have our own individual likes and needs and with such a bigrange of choices available we can make it happen. This Forum Home Page shows a great example of the different types. Above all safe flying and have fun. Best Regards Ed
  25. (but also to discover more about other models promoted in Oz - Foxbat, Storch, etc. ) Hi Chris I think you can geta list of most Jabiru owners from Jabiru. However this is a great forum for all types! You will find if you post to the Jabiru users group you will get plenty of responses given the number of Jabirus around. Not having flown the Foxbat i can not comment on it but i have flown the J160 and the Fly Synthesis Storch. The J160 is a great aircraft and proving to be very popular and fantastic value. Thehttp://www.flysynthesis.com.au Storch is also a great aircraft which is well built withastounding performance. Check it out! Above all, have fun and safe flying! Regards Ed Ed Herring
