Dear Jabiru Fleet,
Bundaberg is once again getting deluged by rain.
For those of you that were planning to drop in to see us at our stand at Airventure Australia this weekend in Narromine, we are sorry to say that we have cancelled due to weather.
Also cancelled is Rod's talk on the Saturday morning. If you have any inquiries, please give us a call or drop in to Bundy in more favourable weather conditions.
Have fun at Airventure.
Happy Landings
The Jabiru Team.
P.S. Below is a pic of the latest shiny new J230 aircraft we were bringing to show you.

I imagine that the captain and first officer would be invited in for a 'friendly chat' by the Ops Supervisor.... Bob

Sorry Derek . Was not aware I had done it . Now removed . Have never used that intentionally and don't ever intend to.... BobHey biggles, why the caution! -
Looks pretty good to me, in fact if I have to do an outlanding this would do me nicely .... BobThat turf farm is far from flat. It is really undulating and would be very deceiving in the event of a emergency landing. They are saying it was registered to a company in Springfield, the USQ Aviation dept is in Springfield -

Thanks for that HF, but I was mainly interested in how the Coroner came to that conclusion, after all most accidents/fatals are caused by 'pilot error' (human factors), so the press report really tells us nothing ..... Bob

Hmm Frank , and I'm not 'anyone' either, but I will be cross examining you about this next week... 'in person' .... Bob .

........ and both the student and instructor were killed. I tried to obtain a copy of the Coroners findings, but it was restricted to close family members. The accident occurred on 19th March 2012 with the aircraft landing in a cane field 14 km NE of the Bundaberg Airport, with no apparent horizontal flight component. There does appear to be some similarities with this recent event ..... BobOscar, It was a Piper Sport that was involved in the fatal accident (training) near Bundy a few years back.It has been reported that that aircraft was most likely in a flat spin. -

I'll look at it tomorrow .... But then again I might not ! ... BobWelcome, Dave. I would be a world-champion procrastinator (if I ever got round to entering the competition) so know where you're coming from. "Look before you leap" is good advice, but that leap has got to happen eventually. If you're like me, your chassis and operating system are past their peak, so why wait for serious deterioration to set in? Old Timer's Disease is best kept at bay by constantly re-wiring the brain- learning something totally new.Just in case you ever ever get around to it, here are some good links about putting things off:

East Gippsland Shire council have recently appointed a full time manager responsible for the operation /maint. etc. for their 3 airports. ie. Bairnsdale, Orbost and Mallacoota ...... Bob

Not to mention what happens when the soap goes missing ... Bob... with "Bad Boy Bubby" as a cell mate with an evil twinkle in his eye.. -
Yeah, money can be a problem whether you've got it or not . Really, what can you do with $2.4 million in cash. Can't bank proceeds of crime. May as well just put it in the prime mover.... Jeez I'm glad I've got none.... Ah, that feels better .... Bob

Currently 8C here in Southern Victoria Frank, and with the wind chill feels like 3C..... Bob

Spoke to Jason today ... Like you say , a nice guy with many good ideas . The parking areas in front of hangars will have loop tie downs, which somehow lay flat when not in use . Discussed the area South of the terminal and cables may be utilised there, but apparently nothing finalised yet .... BobGlad to see the new parking areas are being used :) Be nice when they put in tie down cables though. -
Mmm, yeah good point . The Bairnsdale Shire council are hopeless when it comes to things 'aviation' . We have a new Manager, but haven't met him yet. Will talk to him sometime soon ... BobGlad to see the new parking areas are being used :) Be nice when they put in tie down cables though.- 1

Ah, reminiscing about the " good old days " Oscar. I recall when, as a rather impatient fishermen (and often hungry) we used to use the ' square bait,' otherwise known as a 'net'.I also remember being in the bar of the, (then new, and now gone),Paynesville Hotel/Boatel/Aerotel, when a chap sidled up to me saying that he had just flown down the Straits and didn't see the power line, bringing it down. I think it was a Cessna ... a high wing anyway. There used to be a grass strip next to the Hotel but,I wasn't into aviation then, and thought it was a great joke until I arrived home on Raymond Island to find there was no power ! Another day my mate from R.I.and I decided to clear a few blocks we had near the pub . He said, all we needed were a few hessian bags to control the burn ,and being a dumb 30 something year old, and him nearly fifty, I naturally believed him . The grass was long and the day warm . It soon became obvious that we were out of our depth, and hightailed it back to the old Dodge 114, and headed out of town . We met the fire engine about 2 k's out of town with its bells ringing and lights flashing, heading the other way....... Ah yes Oscar, "those were the days" ..... BobA great part of Australia.I spent over 10 years (on and off) restoring an old trawler at Paynesville Slipyard, made many wonderful friends. Most vivid aviation-related memory of there: late one afternoon, enjoying an after-work vino rosso on my boat moored beside the main slipway: heard what I instantly recognised as a Merlin on full throttle incoming. Raced outside and saw a dot approaching up the channel between Paynesville and Raymond Island, watched it fly under the power cable to Raymond Island and then turn right behind my boat - about 50 metres away at best - to run for Bairnsdale airport in practice for the next day's airshow. Its rh wing tip would not have been 5 metres above the water, and it was pulling nearly max. airspeed - just a blast of sound and fury - stunning. I reckon you'd need to be stationed in a Reno Turning Tower to witness a P51D at full noise in a 90-degree turn at 50 metres.
But - that wasn't the highlight!. It was a delightful summer evening, and maybe five or six of us who were on our boats there that evening, gathered on my boat to chat and consume beverages (as did tend to happen..) As the dusk closed in, there was aviation related banter..
One of the guys said: 'There's an old bloke I know from near here, who reckons he shot down a Zero in PNG, when flying a Wirraway. Is that true?'
Cue, amazed reactions. Since I had been at the Australian War Memorial and took a great interest in our aircraft, I was able to tell him that it was in fact an Oscar ( bit of irony there..) - but the Oscar was so similar to the Zero, that the confusion was understandable.
A remarkable vignette of Australian wartime history... shared on the back of a boat in a delightful Victorian evening.

That's right Yenn , cool the exhaust pipe and shrink the gas volume allowing higher gas velocity...... BobHow could it benefit the engine cooling. If heat cannot get away from the exhaust pipe itself, it must have to go out the end and that takes longer, so more heat back at the engine.Somewhere I saw info on heat wrapping exhausts for aircraft, which reckoned that there was no advantage. Can't remember where but possibly the EAA magazine or Kitplanes. -
