RAAus don't investigate all accidents/incidents, particularly where there are no significant injuries, unless of course the matter is of some 'public interest' .... BobIt's not likely, with the general secrecy and privacy considerations surrounding RAA-Aus-registered aircraft crashes and incidents, that we will ever find out the precise reasons for the crash, unless first-hand information is supplied. -
Had a look at your latest vids. Scott ..... well done . A lot of time and effort goes into producing and editing , often for the benefit of others ........ BobMeanwhile, I've been updating the vids from our Northern trip out to Carnarvon gorge and Longreach.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=videoseries- 1

He'll want CTA going that way. Not available with RAAus cert..... BobPar-Avion looks to be pure GA training from their website. RPL, PPL, Commercial.I'm guessing he might not even know that an RAA pilot certificate even exists.....Plenty of schools pushing the GA only route for increased revenue....

Would have to be a very brave man to lose your luggage Alf !! ..... Bob

Yes you're right about young Frank Geoff. He does seem to have a rather enviable lifestyle, and also attracts his fair share of PYT's . My wife and I flew the Jab from Southern Victoria some years ago,and have remained good friends since. May get back later this year but, as the years roll on, something always seems to get in the way .... Bob

Yenn ... Was it a Warrior or a Tomahawk ? ..... BobI've just done a BFR in a Piper Warrior. My plane is not set up for dual controls so it is easier to do a BFR in a hired plane.I havn't flown a Piper for 50 years, so it was all new to me and also I havn't flown trycycle gear for two years and a T tail never. It wasn't hard flying, just a bit heavy on the controls and everyrhing happens slower than in my RV or Corby Starlet.
The funniest thing was using a yoke instead of a stick. I found taxying at Bundy that i was steering with the yoke. well not steering as the feet were doing the work, but the hands were obviously following through. Stupid, but the instructor didn't comment until I pointed it out to him.
Nice to fly a different plane occasionally and it makes me so much happier to realise how much better my home built planes fly than the spam cans.

Returning from YORB last weekend
The small coastal settlement of Lake Tyers, located some 5 miles East of Lakes Entrance. The mouth of the freshwater lake is known to break through in flood conditions and usually provides safe boating/fishing . Easy access is available for surf-fishing on the Ninety Mile Beach also.
A view of Lakes Entrance looking to the West, showing the footbridge over Cunningham Arm linking the township with the Ninety Mile Beach. The Princes Highway in the foreground provides scenic viewing to travellers and crosses the North Arm (top centre left).
A close up of the Princes Highway crossing the North Arm, heading West toward Melbourne . A road to the left services Bullock Island ( Fish processing/ sales etc.)
The tourist/retirement settlement of Paynesville, with Raymond Island in the foreground and the silt jetties of the Mitchell River at the top. Raymond Island is serviced by a 12 (or more) car ferry, seen crossing McMillan Straits (centre) and operated by hydraulicly driven chain gypsies. About $15 return/vehicle, but free to residents. No charge for pedestrians.
Bairnsdale airport (YBNS) with the BOM radar tower visible to the right, at the 22 end of Rwy 04/22.

My CFI doesn't have an ASIC ,and I've got to see HIM ?? .... BobSo RAAus pilots have to see a RAAusCFI to authorise their ASIC renewal even though the ASIC may not have been issued by RAAus? What's up with that?!? -

East Gippsland Aero Club circulated a petition for signatures at their meeting yesterday, but I will be sending in another, similar to yours Mike. Darren Chester is our local member, but reports indicate, perhaps not unexpectedly, that he may not be fully across all the issues, and will probably just go along with CASA's final recommendations ..... Thanks for that Red . Nothing shown on OR but guess that is mainly Cert. and Reg. Strips .... Bob

Agree with that Alf, certainly no Airvan . Not aware of any strip on Avoid Is either ..... Bob

Not knowing the history of your engine (hours, work done etc. ) it's a little hard to comment, but a leakdown test would be a good investment to establish 'where your engine is at'. The lsa55 is a simple and reliable aircraft and shouldn't cause you much concern.Strong airframe and a readily available supply of parts if needed, unlike some imported aircraft ,where the parts need to be air freighted from overseas, take weeks to come and often cost the earth ...... BobIt's great to hear, Bob, reading your experience is like hearing what the previous owner of my plane reported he was doing and experiencing, only with much improved fuel economy, but as you say, it is a lighter plane at 430kg MTOW. I plan for 15L/hr but achieve about 12L/hr. Mind you, my run up checklist recommends 2000RPM. It is also a 2200 -
G'Day Nightmare , my engine ( 2200 No.2787 ) in my J160, has given trouble free operation for nearly 10 years now. It has run exclusively on Avgas, and the heads have never been removed ( about 430 hours). I do fairly regular Leak down testing, and swing the prop through about 12 blades before every flight. I do oil changes around every 25 hours, sometimes more frequently, and replace the spark plugs, set at .023", after every 50 hours. My CHT's with an ambient temp of around 23oC, (at MTOW and S&L),are around 130oC ,except for No1which runs considerably lower. I am the sole pilot and ensure proper run up checks are done prior to each take-off ( ie. 2200 rpm,as recommended ) and have a climb-out fuel flow of around 32 l/hr (depending on atmospheric conditions), with around 17 l/hr S&L @ 2850 rpm. I would expect that the fuel flow figures with the smaller Jab( at MTOW)to be a little lower. With proper operation your engine should give similar service and reliability ...... Bob :cheers:o

A friend of mine was advised by CASA that, due to his medical history, he needed to be accompanied by another pilot at all times, if he wanted to continue flying. Not happy with their decision he decided to challenge it in the Victorian Administrative Appeals Tribunal and won. Hopefully he decides to go into print sometime, as it would make interesting reading ..... Bob

Hope you've got that Drifter well restrained and the wet weather gear handy Frank .... Bob

Ah, so the guilty croc may still be at large , hmmm ...... Bob.

Yeah Frank , knowing the area, I also wondered how the "guilty" croc, presumably shot where Warren was taken, got to be where you saw it ...... strange! Anyway the public will be happy that .. " they got that killer croc "....Bob

Thanks for that report Frank. People sometimes become complacent of risk. If there any positives in this, it should be to serve as a warning to others ..... Bob

Light aircraft down near Gatton
in Aircraft General Discussion
Posted
"At least one person has sustained minor injuries after a light plane crashed into a field of lettuce in southeast Queensland.
The pilot made an emergency landing just before 3pm on Saturday, coming down outside of the Lockyer Valley town of Gatton.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the plane was found upright with one person suffering from minor injuries."
