  1. Report in the press yesterday that Patient Zero has been found in Wuhan, in the fish market, the virus mutating from shrimps, so its all over with eating bats or the Chinese government giving the Coronavirus to sixteen dissidents to kill them and it getting away.

She is merely the first probable documented case, doesn't mean she was the first. Some Doctors in the area suspect they treated others with similar symptoms earlier, but of course no reasons to suspect anything other than cold or flu. Note that many older Chinese self medicate relying on traditional medicines and knowledge, they don't go to hospitals. You walk into side street traditional medicine shops, tell the doctor your symptoms, and he throws together all the herbs for you to boil up and drink.

I'd wear a mask if I could, but haven't found any available.

I have emailed Australian medical equipment distributors, haven't had a single reply. That's pretty common for Australian companies though.

John Dyson has gone into production of ventilators

Oh no, here comes the "Dyson with Death" jokes ...

  2. Health professionals are still saying if you are healthy a Mask is of little use.

I'm just in shock over this.

Part of the issue with this virus is that you don't know you have it for varying amounts of time until it signals you that it's imbedded itself, via the various symptoms, so in the meantime you transfer it to others, oh just great.

One young guy in Wuhan infected his entire family and relatives, of whom 3 died, and he didn't show a single symptom. That was early on, and when they realised there may be 'super carriers' of it.

So please tell me how you know you are anything but "healthy" during that build up time of 24 hours to a week, and why should medical workers who are "healthy" bother with them then .....

This is not an argument I want to win, I just want you guys to be safe, wear a mask, "F" what other's think.

For those who don't know yet, British PM Boris Johnson is positive and in isolation.

  3. Come on Bex , do some building...…..we are getting off topic!

I haven't stopped, I've had to tend to a few other items, I built a decent sheetmetal folder properly, and I have the new CNC Router on the back of a truck heading to me sometime early next week, and re-arranged the factory to suit. Pretty much sums up why I've had nothing to post.

  4. Local news last night mentioned all distilleries have stopped making spirits and are working three shifts making hand sanitiser. I am ok with that. When life hands you lemons, change recipes.

Sorry for the thread drift Bex. This really is _comedy gold_.

Mate, I'm genuinely concerned for all of you, if these posts save one life it's worth all of it, planes are now secondary.

  5. Masks ... If you're healthy, they're a waste of resources.

    ... we're not all idiots.

    Good luck with that contradiction.

If you really think China has stopped it in it's tracks, and Sth Korea greatly 'flattening the curve' wasn't in some part to EVERYBODY wearing masks, then glad you don't live in a busy city area to put others at risk with your thinking.

Like many Americans and Australians, you haven't seen this first hand, and you have no idea what's coming.

France are now using their bullet trains to spread out patients from the heaviest hit areas where hospitals are way past breaking point. Clearly these all just are words to some of you.

  6. Australians, most of you are cretins.

I just watched Seven National News for today (26/3/20), as far as I can see NO ONE in Australia other than some handfuls are taking this seriously.

Just one of a hundred examples I gasped at, Queensland Police checking cars at the NSW Border no face masks on, leaning on people's car doors into their open windows, begeezus what is wrong with you lot? Idiot cop leans on doors, breathes in or touches germs, then transfers it to the hundreds of next cars they stop, besides the Cop being infected.

Every News Reader/reporter, not one with a face mask on, not one person I saw on the streets, again I point out Police specifically talking to people in the streets, who are prime transferer's.

Not one single Minister or other Leaders, and clearly not the PM.

Every single person you saw on TV in China during this had a mask on, from the PM, the Ministers, the News Readers (yes, reading the news with masks on), the Reporters, every single person on the streets being interviewed, it's called "Leading by Example".

2 of my Daughters in Brisbane with a rotten colds, as is my Grandson, no not the virus, but they are at high risk, and then i see this crap that they are surrounded by, and I am pizzed ....

One of my Australian mates on Facebook has been saying the PM Morrison will kill thousands by his lack of action, now I realise what he's on about.

Yeah, so good luck with that.

  7. Morrison is WRONG.

For all your bleating, you forget that the PM banned all flights from and through China early on, and was one of the first Leaders, along with the British PM, to do so, late Jan starting Feb 1st. It was those actions that is the reason why Britain and Australia's numbers are still quite low.

I agree with go hard, it worked here in China, but he PM, and note I respectfully use his proper title, did good early on.

extremely leveraged corporate economy dominated by huge corporations with very little empathy for workers or national tax obligations. Good riddance.

Blah, blah, blah - people are dying, people are worried, it's just not the time for this political crap is it, just be quiet hey.

  8. Prince Albert of Monaco, who has become infected with the COVID-19 virus, was at a Wateraid event in London on 10th March, and Prince Charles was in the same room. It's entirely likely they shook hands.

Don't you ruin my conspiracy theories with facts, bastard.

and one on a banana skin, as it is.

    That's a bit rough, she's probably a nice lady ...

  9. Prince Charles has just tested positive. Source: BBC News

Yeah I read that today, personally I don't believe it, I think it's a "look anyone can get it" ruse, or intentionally infected to 'take one for the team' for the same reasons, and to humanise the Royals for sympathy. Why would a Royal be mixing at the moment, they have their own personal doctors and medical staff, advisers ect.

Now, gotta go, late for my Flat Earth Group meeting.

  10. The following is a bit cruder language than I'd use, but sums up this situation:

But Sydney is closing all the bars and restaurants, those Cruise Ship people will be most annoyed ...

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8145133/Coronavirus-Seven-cruise-ships-dock-Sydney-week.html

Oh update a few hours ago, they won't be allowed off the ships now, what a crock that it took public anger over the Ruby Princess to make this happen.

  11. The expert opinion is that Masks are hardly worth the effort unless you are infected with Covid-19. It may make you feel more comfortable seeing people wearing them but unless they have the disease they are a waste of time.

    Again, lack of public education.

China encouraged all people to wear masks mostly to help prevent the spread of common colds and flu to prevent people being less vulnerable IF they contracted the Virus. It was never just to stop infected people spreading the virus alone.

Say what you want, China has clearly shown what works to bring the spread of the most contagious virus in modern history to a trickle now, and that includes wearing masks.

The only "experts" so far are China.

  12. News just in: A British family of 6 just landed in Beijing, 4 of them are infected, and now of course they have to find everybody, not just who was on the plane, but all the other people who were in the airport - and flown all over China since. Then there's the taxis, trains and buses people caught, sigh. Hopefully not many on the plane were infected, but it's without doubt some were.

In fact, all the recent weeks cases have mostly been people returning to China, or Chinese escaping other Countries for the safety of home ... oh the irony.

  13. We lack the enforcement capability of China.

No enforcement. Australia has twice as many police as China does BTW, many more if you consider physical size, strength and aggression levels. The majority of Chinese police are unarmed also. On the other hand the few that are armed won't hesitate ...

How about constant information educating the people who then know the reasons why they should follow the proper paths. One News TV station was devoted to this 24 hours a day, constant hourly message information streams on your mobile phone and most Chinese will watch/read it, not the footy ...

Note that Chinese are terrified of death, you don't talk about it, you don't joke about it, the number 4 is considered bad luck because it sounds like the Chinese word for death (like floor 13, many Chinese hotels don't have a 4th floor) and that's a part of it, taking risks is simply out of the question unlike plenty of apathetic/gung-ho Australians (and English and Americans).

  14. You could have left it wood-grained for that retro look...

You might splinter people's opinions on that.

Guys, looking at Facebook tonight, there are people using China's current calm on the virus to suggest it's not a big deal, and that vaccines aren't necessary.

No way, please ignore it, as I mentioned the cultures and people's disciplines here are completely different, please do not be apathetic about this.

In the last 2 days, Germany went from 10,000 to 20,000+ infections, in the same time worldwide it went from 200,000 to 280,000. Why aren't these numbers scaring people?

Northern Italy is just tragic, a reasonably small area and 800 more died yesterday, now 5000 deaths, and the first case was reported there only 7 weeks ago

  15.

If I recall, Keating and Hawke were the ones

Also, the wholesale model if Australia was a buys shop - remember when Whitlam removed a lot of the customs duties to decrease the prices - not much compeition at the wholesale level, prices stayed the same and wholesalers got very rich.

Well I'm glad you mentioned Whitlam, because he started it with a 25% reduction. Fraser reigned it in, then Hawke did it again, then Keating.

Don't think this is anti-Labor, it's not, Liberals did little about it once they got in after Keating.

However, it was Abbot who decided that car manufacturing should stop (you cannot tell me he didn't know the consequences of his actions)...

.. and vice versa, Labor did NOTHING about it.

And manufacturing was killed because of the rise of ultra cheap imports from Asia.. the clothing manufacturing industry first and then the rest...

Did you know that Germany, not a cheap country, the Government there supports the car industry to the tune of 5 times per Capita that Australia ever did, and have a look at their success around the globe. Oh and check out their Protection Laws and Tariffs ....

Cheap imports from Asia, sure but you don't mention the protection barriers they put up while we opened our doors so that they can flood in ...

I will never forgive Hawke and Keating for pretending that we can compete on the World stage, all they did was bend us over and make way for pineapples.

  16. Well, I hope that makes the US$ dive, so we can get some value back in our dollar!

If we stopped tying our bloody dollar to the US in the first place making speculators filthy rich, we could get the whole country back on track.

Our dollar is such an easy touch that it's the 4th or 5th most traded, even though we are 15th or more largest economy.

People rave about Keating and his floating of the dollar, but look what happened to our manufacturing after it ....
