  1. I was in the circuit at Parafield when my instructor took over due to a roll cloud at ground level coming from Port Adelaide. All it looked like was a line of dust and swirling leaves just like Nev said. The winds went from 10 kts to over 35 kts within 10 minutes. I'm so glad I had an instructor with me and have a better chance of recognising it if I see it again.
  2. I've also heard their farts smell funny.
  3. I took my Dad for his first flight last week from Murray Bridge to Aldinga for coffee and then anti clockwise around the Fleurieu Peninsular, then from the Murray Mouth over Lake Alexandrina and Lake Albert and followed the river back. A perfect day, no traffic and some special time with my Dad, looking at where we used to sail together nearly thirty years ago. Made some good memories that day and it made all of the training that went into obtaining my pilots licence worthwhile for just that one flight. Thanks Dad xx
  4. Hi Phil, It was really great to meet you all at the BBQ today. Thanks to all at Loxton for their hospitality. We will have to do it again. Gary & Elaine
  5. Well done! Isn't it the best feeling? I was still trembling with excitement many hours later. Hope you remember the buzz forever.
  6. You have all made some very good points, thanks for your thoughts. Is there a specific or preferred route to Tassie? It is a trip that I would like to do at some stage.
  7. I have heard a couple of very different opinions regarding over water flight of 20 to 30NM in a Jabiru 230. Being new and inexperienced in RA, I wondered if it is a much bigger deal than in GA aircraft?
  8. I thought it might have been an Aire-dale terrier.
  9. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. Frank, it requires 5 hours minimum conversion to RA including 1 hr solo. I am glad to report that I received my conversion this morning from the CFI and spent another 2 1/2 hours being as free as a bird. That was about 10 hours ago and I can't stop smiling. Please tell me that this feeling doesn't get old. Old Koreelah, your wife must really love you to do that course for you. It was hard enough doing it for myself. I'm not sure if I would have been so willing to do it for someone else. Bikky, great news that you have achieved a dream of living in Brazil. Flying for me was also only ever an option if it was more than 12 hours drive away. Go and make time to fulfill another dream. TENTE! Mark11, every flight, take 30 seconds to think about how fantastic what you are doing is. A civil engineer strapped to a kite with a fan, now that's funny. Seriously, if you are not having fun you may as well be flying GA. (Just joking really, but I must admit that all of the RA people I have met have really been warm, friendly and helpful - I'm very glad I joined this club) Gary
  10. Hi all, I am very new to all this plane business. After spending 30 years being terrified of flying commercially, I took 6 weeks of flying lessons to overcome my fear. who would have thought that after a month I would end up loving it. Now all I ever want to do is just fly. I got my PPL a few months ago, 11 months after my TIF. Now I have discovered a whole new world of RA and have bought a half share in a Jabiru J230. All I need now is to finish my RA conversion so I can fly it. I look forward each night to learning something else about aviation. If I can't fly, I might as well be reading about it. I think I am making up for lost time. Gary
