  1. Sorry if this is a little off topic Jack, but the lawnmower and the talk of crosswind landings and go arounds make me look for a current youtube crazy landing clip..see if you like this one.. http://www.gadling.com/2008/03/02/crazy-cross-wind-landing-caught-on-video/
  2. LOL..yes Chainsaw..reckon they would go really well..only problem would be getting us out of the pilots seat..we'd be having so much fun! Would be nice to above snake level for a change too..!! JUst thought though Chainy..the zero turn would be darn intersting handling in a crosswind..and just think..you wouldn't have to do a go around..just pull back on the handles and go into reverse!..wouldn't be pilots next in the landing queue be appreciative of that!
  3. Not bad Jack..shouldnt have had any problems at the old Kai Tek airport..not sure how it would handle the winds at Wellington NZ though..would look interesting on a go around!

Was a passenger in a few Dash 8's in USA in September..nice sound when they fire up! They fly some of the shorter legs from Philadelphia for US Airways. Not sure its the way to fly to LAX from Sydney though! Well spotted Chainy!
  5. As per my post I'm off this arvo. Albury-Sydney 5 p.m. Tomorrow morning Air Tahiti Nui Sydney-L.A leaving 9.05 a.m See you all in just under 3 weeks! Be good.Tim
  6. Good for you Darren..good to see you getting airborne and o/s. I'm booked to leave Sep 21st to USA on Air Tahiti Nui. Enjoy the months preparing and thinking about and planning your trip ..I reckon that thats half the fun! Then the bonus is actually going! Cheers Tim :D
  7. Thanks Robbo..could well be the answer..was wondering why that would happen with two engines so close together? I can understand two planes close together but at different heights... Was an interesting sight..wish I had a camera handy to take a shot shot for you guys and gals. :)
  8. Thats not good..hope it works out..can you check if ur PM is on? About to pm you.
  9. Got it all up and going again Robbo?
  10. JUst got the stereo effect here..was watching a domestic flight here (probabaly QF to Canberra) and enjoying the sound effects but heard a slightly different sound in my left ear..it was UA 840 heading to Sydney..both planes neck and neck but UA slightly north. Looked like the concluding part of an air race like they had at Laverton in the old days! Got 6 contrails this time with the 4 plus 2! P.S I have seen a flight path chart my brother had at one stage. I'm assuming the Mel Syd and Mel Canberra flights track same path but the Canberra ones diverge onto a diferent path not long after passing Albury? Can anyone help with that info? Ta Tim :)
  11. LOL..yes Chainsaw you are right!LOL...checked Melair flight radar and flight info but one plane looked a bit furhter north and the other a bit south to be the one,...and the flight info times didnt quite match up unless plane had a bit of time sitting on the runway or taxiway before takeoff. Must get that Planeplotter!..I'll have to teach a course on aviation related matters here at school so the computer guys will let me install it. Believe it or not I actually wrote up a possible business course related to aviation etc..not sure if it will get up as a course next year or not. It was proposed an an elective for Year 10 students wanting to learn a bit about business but not wanting to get too tied down in textbook theory but rather a more hands on/ interst based approach using aviation as a core. :)
  12. Just had an overfly.up here in North East Vic at 11.05-11.10 a.m. looked like a QF..hard to tell as sunlight was bouncing off the aircraft..thought it might have been QF 424 or QF 426 from Mel-Sydney but it was about 10 minutes either side of when I would have expected those flights. I did Melair flight radar check which didnt help any further..but what was interesting was it only had one contrail..is this usual? It was from RHS..too hard to identify plane type with sun gleaming off it. Was wondering why only one contrail? Can anyone help on this one? Cheers Tim :)
  13. Yes Glenn..Its a trip I would do anyway.before I die...one of those things you have to do for your soul...by ship if not planes..but with commitments I couldn't do it now by ship with the time it would take.. Would love the ship too..but the plane would be extra special. And all those extra flights I get for free! Yay! e.g. To get from New Haven ,Conneticut to Akron Ohio, I fly via Phialdelphia..yet its all for the one price..no extra for the extra plane trip. I reckon I'm lucky. Yes Ozchris...the inner reward for creating/ inventing something..we all have a creative side and we need to find it and express it somehow. I loved my music but cant play an instrument at all..so I turned to organising musical events and found my creatrivity there..a great experience. Not having a scientific bone in my body I just marvel at the physics of the whole thing and how it works, and at how mankind has been able to do what it has done aviation wise..in the design, construction, maintenance and actual flying etc. So many different people all contributing. I marvel at how some pilots have come up with answers and saved flights in emergency situations..and how engineers solve puzzles when planes crash or break down. Mankind has so much intelligence...would be great if it were all harnessed in a positive direction for sake of mankind...and it can be with awill to do that... :)
  14. Yep..sur do..cant wait for this trip to happen..hoping it will be soon.if all goes according to plan i will be off in 5 weeks..if not 12 months down the track..but it will happen..I can feel it in my bones. Travel agent was concerned and apologetic with all the flights....in the USA I have to catch two flights every time to get from A to B..and that happens 4 times..with a stopover on the way home it actually means 12 take offs and landings within two weeks! Told travel agent not to worry!LOL.Who is complaining..not me!! :D
  15. LOL! Just think Chainy..we could start a thread on "The Ulimate Planespotters Ride On Mower." Getting back to the topic..what I'd miss? Well the airport atmosphere, the sound and feel of reverse thrust..the sound and feel as the plane trundles along the runway on take off..wtching the different things going on in the wings...Methinks its time I got on a plane again! I've already got a plan in motion for that. :D
  16. Would miss the vapour trails at night when a big full moon is out like last night too..something special. :) Just think Chainsaw..you wouldn't be able to watch those magnificent craft whilst mowing down that long grass on that ride on mower...if only you could get plane plotter installed on the dash..now thats an idea..might think about it for mine too..just got a new ride on toy here. Enjoy the spotting today.Blue sky (and white frost) up here in North East Victoria. :D
  17. Hmmm..not being able to go out through the paddocks and watch those great things in the sky with their vapour trails....I'd feel strangley disconnected.
  18. Goodonya Darren. Thanks for the report. N.Z is high on my list to travel to and spend some time there. Best friend lives in the Bay of Plenty and have promised her I will get there! Actually will be passing through there in October on the way back from USA via Papeete but only one hour in AKL before leg back to Aussie. Cheers Tim
  19. Good to have you back on Darren.Tim
  20. Welcome to The Aussie Aviator Mark. Good to have you on board.
  21. ..and there I was in my pm to you last night worrying about a tree coming down over my house! I had a huge gum topple over onto the back half of my house two years ago..lucky the fall was broken by the water tank and tree was close to the house..damaged roof though..I was in front room asleep at the time. take care Robbo..and keep off the roof!
  22. Re: Sydney - Brisbane - Port Vila Hi Nick..not sure if this helps but at YMML I really look forward to a Hudson's coffee.if you get them to make it the way you want. To me its a great coffee. I find they make it fairly strong so I ask for my latte to be not too strong with extra milk..its so good I usually skoll the first first one and then order a second one to sip and enjoy! Not sure if they have Hudsons at Brisbane though. Good luck finding a nice coffee on your trip! P.S Twice I have liked it so much I have got a third one..big mistake...too much coffee made me ga ga for a couple of hours!
  23. Yes noticed snow in the distance from here Kaye...some on Buffalo and Mt. Cobbler so I should have realised you might be getting some there at your place too..hope you get some pics and enjoy it! Great to see everyone enjoying the snow! :)
  24. Yes goodonya Glenn..A lucky day having one overhead..and pics to show for it!
  25. You won't get to play Santa this year if you keep sliding off rooves Robbo! Was their snow up there by any chance? seriously, hope you're not too damaged..with all my accident proneness lately I can relate to getting hurt!
