  1. Sounds a great trip..says I drooling! Guess some things might depend on the time of year etc. but reckon all year round would be great to visit those places. Only thing I could recommend is stopping for a while in some of those places..you may have to hire a car in some..if doing the Great Ocean Road would be a shame if as well as seeing it by air (see great trip report Chris put in a few weeks ago when he did it in his ultralight)..that you might not get a chance to see it at ground level too..Aireys Inlet Lorne Apollo Bay Port Campbell..so much to see there too..if you hired a car or booked a tour for a day or two you might see some things from a different perspective..you would be lucky seeing it in the air too! Just my thoughts..sounds fantastic. Best wishes to you. Tim :D
  2. Same here Chainsaw!..mines just about kicking in now..after cup no 3! It has a good effect on your photography so dont give the coffee away just yet! Brilliant pics!
  3. Classic plane-classic pics..they are brilliant Chainsaw..and love the crosswind approach in no 2! Could almost see the part in the pilots hair in no 3. Great pics..made my early morning and a great early morning starter to go with the coffee next to me!
  4. Thanks g_i_jack..liked the pics..esp the 247...
  5. Yes Darren those crosswind landings are something special aren't they..must give pilots a real sense of a job well done when they take it in and do it well.
  6. Thanks for the vid's Darren..loved 'em..a bit of a crosswind on the 767 landing?..was the wind noticeable for you when taking the vid?...made for a great landing and video. Thanks Darren Tim :)
  7. Have to agree David..there is something awesome about them..both on the ground, take off and landing and in flight. :)
  8. Thanks for the link Glenn..looks good..great to see something fairly local up here Tim.. :)
  9. LOL! Thanks Glenn good to know there are a few of us...! I guess on days when there aren't many craft flying over I can always switch the fan on now and get a bit of as buzz..even if it is artificial!LOL
  10. Great pics g_ i_jack! Yes all 3 were great in my view..from recent reading the Canberra was considered a darn good plane. Saw them all in a couple of air races at the old Laverton Air Shows in the early 1960's..all planes were given a handicap..I remember some planes getting close to the line then all of a sudden one by one the jets would appear and almost gobble up the others on the line....the last show I saw I reckon a plane was almost at the finish line and all of a sudden a black speck appeared and thundered through the sky to just get pipped at the line....it was the mirage..on disp[ay before the first of the group of them arrived..so I am guessing around about 1963-65 'ish?
  11. Good to know it happens to others too! Funny the sound of the fan varies a little if you shift in your chair..and thats what I must have done...fans been going all day and only noticed it before!LOL yes..the check ups are getting more often..but reckon I'm built a bit like a DC-9....a few odd creaks but built to last!LOL
  12. Thought I heard a helicopter coming over before so raced and grabbed the new zoom binocs..got outside..and ..nothing there..? Returned inside only to find out it was my fan making fan like noises..Duh! Aviation on the brain or old age creeping up?
  13. Hard for me to pick just one. To me its the planes that used to flyover my house in Ashburton in Melbourne when I was a kid. So that gives a vote for DC 3, Vampire Jet, Sabre and Canberra bomber. Maybe also whaterer planes they were that took me on my only overseas trip in 1990. British Airways Mel-London..and Continental Airlines London-Hawaii-Mel..any guesses on what those planes might have been? I didn't know my planes all that well back then. :) Tim
  14. I love the roar of the engines on that clip as the pilot pulls out of the landing for the go around..a spilt second choice..another second or two might have been a bit late..a hard day at the office though..but a good result for all concerned in the end. :)
  15. Yes thats a ripper Chris! Have you been involved in some difficult landings Chris in your ultralight..like wind changes etc..? Guess sometimes you can take off in good weather but landing later on when conditions have changed or in a different place might not always be easy?
  16. Thank heavens its not real! LOL Thanks for picking that one up Glenn..wonder how they they actually put it togetehr..some fancy cutting and splicing I guess.
  17. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1VxZjBTQT8&mode=related&search=]YouTube - Crazy Landing!![/ame]
  18. One of my favourites..this music and the planes together just resonate with me..almost as if I have been there as someone else and seen these scenes in real life...and such a connection to something..hard to explain. Music is "All I Need " by Air [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5j9_aqJ_4n0&mode=related&search=]YouTube - AMAZING LANDING[/ame]
  19. Next landing..St Maartens! Quite a few similarities methinks Glenn! I take it the craft didn't crash? Could understand why if it didn't quite make a normal landing!
  20. Yep. Chainsaw...I think "The Castle" was spot on!..except we both get the benefits of the country air and views as well as the flight paths..all we need to add a bit is to get some of the big ones to do some low flyovers! Maybe you might oblige in a few years g_i_jack? You never know where your love of planes will take you..some exciting places and adventures no doubt!
  21. Fortuitous how we both ended up directly under flight paths Chainsaw..had a valuer out late last year and pointed that out as a feature that added value to my place..he just gave me a blank look ..poor ole fella! Ang g_i_jack..that airstrip and plane would be great..something to aim for!
  22. Thats some plane..thanks richmondtroy and Glenn... Brings to mind the various controversial decisons re planes in Britain and Australia in the 1960's and the Supehornets etc now..different Governments and different views on planes.......
  23. Definitely not a prototype then..they must have built a few. ..thanks for that info richmondtroy. wonder would dvd be available locally?
  24. Yes weird looking plane..wonder if they made a big batch of them or just a few or even if this one was a prototype?..guess it was to complenment their submarine fleet and that missile capability..very much a Cold War feel about it in a way..those were the times we lived in I guess. Hi Chainsaw! Perhaps it could be converted into a ride on mower?LOL..would have to do straight strips on the road verge though..cant imagine trying to turn it round the fruit trees! Do you have any more pics Jack..that was a good one..have never seen that plane before.
  25. Wow..great pic Jack..there's a lot of engine power there..but reckon they wouild have needed it..good pic Jack. Thanks. :)
