  1. Howdy all

Has anyone been to this airfield lately near Rockhampton along the the coast.Looks like a great place to fly, according to my country airfield guide of Qld it says according to rumour the airstrip will be closed

for redevelopment in the future,I would like to try it out next week, but would appreciate any info who has been there lately.

  2. It was a Fasterway PPC with a 500sqft chute, same flying principles as a aerochute, but different design and different sized canopy. The aerochute has a 367sqft

canopy.Condolences to all family and friends ,no one wants to see these things happen.

  3. Understand what you mean.I got the idea of using sticks 3 weeks ago when flying for nearly 2 hrs in a straight line up and back and having to contend with a slight crosswind

all the way.For the time being these sticks will do me till she dies, and steelbreze comes along, hopefully by then RAA would have sorted out this mess with the CFIs.

  4. I Know the ones you mean, i have seen them too. They do work. They are designed to be used in the cruise only and not for take off and landing. Make sure you put velcro around your steering line handles and to the headplate to stick them there when not in use. If you don't, when using the electric sticks on full flare for a tight turn the overhead toggles will float back into the prop.Edit. From memory I don't think they did a full flare either. only 15-18 inches or so.

But you would not be using electric mode for full flare on landing anyway ,you use the toggles in manual normal landing to get the full flare anyway or does the set up restrict the full flare in manual mode too? Thanks for handy info

    on the velcro handles

  5. Thanks for that info Kev.I purchased a newer superceded design from the the Contes as they do not make those pulley ones you mentioned anymore. These ones are electronically operated from a servo unit that is operated from a 12v battery that runs to your regulator/rectifier.The sticks are only 3 inches long and you can operate them

with only 2 fingers right in front of you.You take off in a normal fashion with your hand toggles, then when your 100ft you flick a switch and go electronic mode, then prior to landing you switch back to manual mode.Steve is sending them out to me soon and I will let you know how it all goes cant wait.

  6. Ive been watching a lot of videos on Aerochutes, and have noticed no one ever seems to fly with them.I have

been wanting to get a set,but am sitting on the fence a little about them.I know Aerochute makes them, but

there are no photos or prices on them. Are they worth getting?would appreciate any comments from people

that have them or had them, like them dont like them etc.

  7. Turboplanner,I have been flying powered parachutes for over ten years and fly with and know many PPC pilots.

I have never heard of this large amount of broken arms and legs????????????

There have been no records of these incidents with the RAA.

Is this just another example of the lack of respect and uninformed comments we get from the general flying community towards PPCs ?

Can you give some examples ?

Well put Nashy,I could not agree more.Much more broken arms and legs flying the 3 axis fixed wing jabirus of late.

  8. The airfield at Teewah is no longer used by fixed wing aircraft as it is not deemed safe for them, and the good news is it is only used for ultralights hang gliders helicopters and

model aircraft.gps on google earth 26 18.813 south 153 02.685 east. There is a windsock,no fuel, the runway is unsealed dirt and there are crosses marked on the southern runway.Runway lengths are 900m and 500m.If

you cant get hold of Dave, then ring Airport operations manager 075453 1505,or wayne Cambie Noosa Model Aircraft Club on 0407 760975 mob.Cheers.

  9. Hi Fred,as you know I have the 63" Bolly and previously the 59" Bolly. First thing you notice is that the Bolly's are a lot quieter than the Ivo with its square end. My findings are

Bolly 59" - I originally spoke to Peter at Bolly and he described the 59' as being less rigid down one side so the with increased RPM the pitch would be finer for climb out and at cruise with lower RPM the pitch became course. Downside I find when 2 up, higher revs required for straight and level as pitch would again become fine.

Bolly 63" - Extra expense due to Factory approved modification to airframe. Again a much quieter prop with low RPM cruise and good climb out.

Will be interesting to see results from the new wide blade 55" Bolly due out soon.

Info for those not aware of the Aerochute flight characteristics. The aircraft (32 rego Factory Built) is supplied with a 370 sqft rectangular parachute which has no trim. Due to limiting features the Aircraft cannot Stall or Spin. The level of drag is constant and the Airspeed cannot be changed (around 30knt) other that to add or remove weight hence the above discussions re RPM at S&L. you Take off, fly and land at the same speed, more power and you climb, less power and you decrease height, no power and glide is 4:1

    Gday Mike

I will be taking up a 110kg fella next week with the new 59 inch Bolly,if we can get off the ground all will be vindicated with the Bolly as I know with the old ivo

there will be a chance of pruning the trees at the end of the runway. The Contes say the 55 inch Bolly will be out this month.

  10. We had four youths die in an horrific road crash in rural Victoria today. The car, an SS Commodore, was spilt in two.Every day the media is full of road safety material and yet the carnage still goes on as it has for the last 50 years or more.

The only difference between then and now is that the cars themselves are safer, but faster, and we only kill ourselves at the rate of 300 each year instead of 1100.

Pushing boundaries and grieving for those who push too hard seem to be very human activities; I can't think of any other life form that does it.

Maybe that is why aliens in their UFOS do not want to land here. They study us look at at our ways and laugh and just keep on keeping on going.

  11. Took the new 59 inch fixed pitch bolly for a test flight today and compared it to the 58 inch ground adjustable IVO prop. The 2 improvements were a slightly better straight and level cruise speed with the Bolly

5150 Ivo prop was 5250.Much quicker response in power with the Bolly, especially with low level flights,no lag

in power as was with the IVO.The biggest let down was the climb rate, which was only 380 fpm full throttle at 6250IVO was 6350 and climb rate 400 fpm .the temp in the morning was 25 degrees as was the same with the

IVO prop, solo weight was the same me 88kg as was with the IVO. Tried to lean out the mixture as the plugs

were black, running rich, still could not get past 6250rpm.On a scale 1-10 I would give it a 5.Save your money and stick with the IVO

Fred do you notice much improvement with the new prop.?

Just put the new prop on today and hand cranked her over today and really noticed the ease and lightness while cranking over .Couldnt go for a flight today its been pissing down all day.I have some details of the climb rate with the old ivo so I can compare the two when the weather clears up and get back 2u.Cheers.Hows the the mud slinging goin over at APPA?

  13. The

For they are Bolly good fellows, to come up with this new 55" prop......but (being a smaller prop) does it use more fuel for the same distance?

These new 55 inch Bollys are yet to be released,Feb next year still in their trials.I know I need a better performing prop when taking up passengers than with the 59inch IVO I currently run.Your question on fuel economy on smaller dia props gives food for thought. This URLfrom the Bolly Book in the first section under blade area vs blade

dia in performance might help with your question.I still have an open mind on the 55 inch, but going to a larger dia prop might be the better option for the slower more

  14. I have a white edition standard type with a wrist band remote control, and love them.Pictures and recording set at 720 max wide angle is like having a 3rd eye its so clear.

Especially mounted on the helmet instead of the Aerochute frame. The only very minor thing is because they are so small they do not have a playback screen and you need to pair it with your iphone to playback which has a slight lag in the playback. If you download it on your pc or YouTube, no problems with lag.

  15. Greetings all

Had a chat with the Contes manufacturers of Aerochute and Peter from Bolly and they have a new ground adjustable wide blade 55 inch prop which has the same climb rate as a 62 inch prop used on the Aerochute without changing the the line guard ,retailing around $1250 from Bolly .Sounds like a good deal especially given the more clearance from the lines which would be 1 1/2 inch extra clearance compared to using a 58 inch IVO prop, which is the standard used prop.
