  1. sorry doug was writing with a very heavy heart didnt even notice caps lock on sorry mate graham
  2. Good point Alf and yes they were both the new Arrow Wings, but with David having over 270 hrs TT or more i am leaning more to health or structural?? A SAD AND TRAGIC END TO A GUY WHO LOVED AND LIVED FOR HIS HOBBY! I am certain David would of practised reguarly emergency landings,,, Regards GRAHAM
  3. REGARDS GRAHAM CAMPION AND FAMILY, MAY THIS BE OUR LAST FOR SOME TIME IT HURTS EVEN MORE WHEN YOU KNOW THEM,,
  4. according to our cfi that $88k price is for the sst trike and the majority of the price was to pay for the certification of the wing which cost them a million odd dollars ?? think an stk 3 would do me fine but still would not pay $65k to sit out in the open!!!! there are way to many bargins around well under that price?
  5. hi guys worst case scenario,i spoke to a guy on sat when i picked up my xt912 sst tundra, he went all the way to perth for a bargin got it back to yarrawaonga only to find the base bar was bent and had very low hrs, my point is thou, airborne only charged him $800 to fit the base bar and a new windscreen, even if you do find a cheap one that does need minor repairs its not like its going to break the bank to repair it,,, and as bluey stated there are alot on the market all around the $35 k mark with 300 to 400 hrs and all tourers with stk 3 wings ? personally i still cannot see why they are $88k brand new ,if i personally was going to spend $88k on an aircraft it would be enclosed and 100knots with all the bells and whistles, or $88k could also put you in the ga category with a full licence???? another quick point of concern is why are raa instructors on $120 an hr in your aircraft? or more ,even local ga instructors here [albury]are only $105 hr????? my doctor is only on $75.00 hr, are we pushing our sport into an unaffordable hobby???? Cheers gaham
  6. this year was my first natfly ,i was very fortunate to ride up in a mates yak, but was very worried on departure ,we had a jab call base but he was actually on final? and then called final as his wheels touched down??????????????? as we proceded to taxi out after a radio call and permission to do so from marshalls a second jab was spotted on final with no radio calls at all,or the my headset and the pilots must be faulty? during the day gyro copters pulled straight out in front of a rv 4 and he had to go around, the second was a jab and he had to go around,, makes us wonder on what happened to all our basics aviate communicate and navigate,, to alot of people it made us look like a 3 ring circus! or was there 2 marshalls lookin in opposite directions? next yr i think i will drive!
  7. its another sad end ,to what was supposed to be a great fly in and gathering, however we all know the risk taking off so late and they may even have had a head wind?which prob made the trip longer than normal? as pilot in command one must look at the risk and access the situation and knowling be aware of his or her actions, its a very sad and tragic news and my condolences to family and friends,,, i hope we all learn from mishaps and take extra care so no more of these happen,, TAKE CARE PLAN CHECK AND ENJOY,
  8. i also read the same article, and am worried at the amount of older xt912 trikes on the market most with sst wings fitted???? is there something we do not know about them? rumour has it airborne is about to release a new upgraded sst wing? i dont know what other people think but it does not look good from a buyers stance i think i will start looking for streak 3 xt912
  9. how very true,it only takes a min to advise people and inform them rather than laugh and make fun of! some actually learn more and remember a polite conversation with helpfull hints,
  10. i am certain the YYWG AIRPORT MANAGER WOULD OF INFORMED HIM,,,LOL
  11. that is some very impressive flying one could only dream of doing let alone take the risk of such great aircraft,,,,
  12. aust brought 200 drones and hve 20 of them now but they are sitting in afganistan with operational airfield until march to operate from? as for the f 35 with the yanks building a base up north why are we wasting money i am certain there is something as good or better out there that would of been delivered on time and within budget sounds like the old f111 saga all over again ops ,,,,
  13. what an amazing great looking machine the pilots must have a lot of faith in the under carraige there was a few landings that did the old bounce test, looks like less and less crew needed now with machines like this??
  14. yes i agree totally let the proper people raa/casa do there investigation and proceed with what ever they recommend, i was a little angry as some of my mates where the one s buzzed at low level and took photo s, had my 2 cents worth,, time will tell and judgement passed upon him fines or other wise,, sorry if i up set anyone, cheers graham,
  15. what worries me is one of us may actaully have an emergency and need to land asap and now may be branded the same as this tool, also with casa linked to raa what new pressure and rule changes are going to be inforced upon us? one fool makes it hard for the true avaitors of the raa who enjoy the sport stick to the rules and live and breath there sport and aircraft,, it only takes one to stuff it for the rest of us, he could have been smarter and removed his numbers as well ? i really hope the raa and casa set a good example and punish the pilot and not the rest of us,,,, if that was me i would be behind bars now some people have all the luck, he will prob get banned for life from flying for life and a fine for intoxication???? TIME WILL TELL,
  16. there is a very strong rumour or truth the PLANE IS UNREGISTERED AND PILOT NOT CURRENTLY LICENCED? and now casa have inspected the aircraft that is sitting behind a mechanics workshop in holbrook, the pilot was rather lucky the instrument panel has disappeared so they cannot check them out, there is a very large cut in the boom so the motor was running well? there is also alot of video footage and photos been handed in,and have appealed for more,, who knows what the wraith of these guys may bear down on the pilot? a good warning to us all fly safe and do not do silly things with technology today every man kid and dog has a mobile phone with a camera/video, ONE LAST POINT THE PILOT STATED HIS ALT INDICATED 500 FT,,I AM JUST WONDERING HOW HE COULD MISTAKE 3FT ABOVE THE WATER TO 500 FT IS THERE REALLY THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE THAT ONE CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE?????? I WOULD HATE TO SEE THIS GUY DOING CIRCUITS,, AND WHAT HEIGHT DOES HE DO THEM AT?
  17. according to a mate who used his boat to pull the sapphire in,he was approx 2ft off the water doing steep turns than flying low again first turn looked great then he circled another boat and the right wing tip entered the water, and in she went he was floating in the water when they got too him beside his boat, few other friends called saying he was doing loops over bowna area heading to ebden where he went in ?i was not there but mate sent some photos he took its a write off broke the boom just behind the pilot seat, i was not there just written what i have been told!
  18. 618 was great heaps of power,i had a bolly ground adjustable prop set at 17deg pitch and you could honestly set the power at 6200rpm pull the stick back to 55knots and watch the altimeter climb,,looking at vsi we were climbing at 400 ft/min 2 up full fuel,,,we tried a stall at cruise 65 knots 3000ft by the time it stalled we were at 3500ft and could still feel the prop biting,,just had a slight fluttter,,, have not flown any other motors but there is a jabiru powered one over here for sale but they are well known for short life span and heating proplems,,
  19. hi geoff, mine is an early 98 model airframe totally rebuilt by previous owner, installed new wiring icom radio and new 582blue head and new prop and gearbox,, he did 12 odd hrs and lived a long way from holbrook airfield,, at the time i had a 99 model with 618 rotax and sold it to purchase a 2005 model x air with 36 hrs but got all the way to narrabri 10hr drive or more only to find bent under carriage etc,, not as advertised,, IT REALLY UPSETS ME WHEN PEOPLE ARE NOT HONEST AND PUT MINIMAL INFO ON THERE ADVERTISEMENTS,,, even worse after a 10 hr drive ,it took some great deal of control to keep one self polite ,, he had a level 2 inspection done but half the exhaust springs where missing and it got worse,, and i was supposed to fly it home after the owner had it ready to fly???? oh well ended up buying the 98 model,,great machine but am at a stage want to pay the mortgage out completly within 3 years so looks like might have to down grade back to an early model tike shortly?? cheers graham
  20. i agree came in on final once with slight crosswind and as i got below the tree line the wind completly vanished so did the airspeed and did 2 beautifull bounces from about 5 ft in the air,, but i give the trhuster one thing it only bent a spring and a little nose pod rearranging ops!!!!! to my half owner brothers bewilderment,, that ended my thruster days and back to my beloved trike,,, until i found the x air,,, cheers graham
  21. hi mate 582 rotax blue head oil injected, 3 blade brolga prop both engine prop and gearbox only done 34hrs, i did 90 odd hrs in airborne trikes before the x air and i agree i do not think i have completly mastered the beast,,we have had some really horrible weather of late 15 to 20 knot winds up to 3000 ft then increasing to 25t makes flying uncomfortable even when using just the rudder you start wishing you were down stairs looking up,,i dont think the weather would be any better in a trike maybe worse? as for landings have them pretty down pat even in crosswinds,,,got caught in 20 knot winds changing from 140deg to 170,,, i love the challenge of having to fly the beast but am not enjoying the winds of late ,,, and like wise would love something faster than 65knots indicated but what do you buy that does not cost an arm and a leg? over here [australia] we get bitten quite hard gst on gst on gst oh i forgot import cost,,, other problem is importers get a little creedy and like a little more cream on there cake ! same your way? cheers graham
  22. hi i fly my x air when ever i can and have been caught in some really rough weather ,,was a little bare knuckled but have since learnt its best to relax and just use rudders as per instructors advice,, other than that yes the x air is a great first aircraft and great hour builder,,, i started in trikes and then thruster back to trikes and after 40 odd hrs in x airs am wondering what the next step is,,
  23. from where i am sitting that slightly faster asi made us feel a little bit better, maybe we were not actually going any faster but after being aroung 35-40 and actaully reaching 45 with such a small change i guess only now we can try a gps and see what we are doing? who knows only the gods may answer this one??????ps it would be great if anybody knows if this does or does not work because i notice airborne are now selling them on there new xt912 s,does it work for them or just deflect air??????
  24. hi guys,my brother and myself fly with a wizard and 582 & made a slightly larger windscreen that goes up higher and deflects air over your passenger, cruise is now around 43-45 knots more 43 at 4800rpm,its made from 1.5mm polycarbonate plastic and held on by the 2 side screen retaining screws and double sided tape, maybe its just or imagination but this does seem to work with even the passengers saying its not as windy, but more time will tell as we use it more...like everybody else we would love a streak wing but at $8200 t gst that will take some time to save..
  25. hi giorgio,i started learning in a xt912 ,and just bought a edge x582 with wizard wing,i have flown a few hours in my own now and are not far off solo, the 582 is great but the biggest thing i had to consider was weight, being 6ft tall and 94 kgs i have to ensure that with a passenger it has the power to get off the ground easily, some thing the 503 may struggle a little with 2 heavy people on board ,good luck in your search....campslive
