Actually that price would include the gearbox too...

About $4500 for full OH by Rotax agent... I was told this just last week by a Rotax agent! Given new engines are not much more than that new now, you have a conundrum IMHO.
-
300hrs is Rotax TBO... if you look after them they can go for a lot LOT longer... I think they should be "on condition" rather than 300...

^^^ What he said ^^^ I have noticed some orangeish build up on spark plugs from the lead....

So buy a strut braced version

Please take this as just a discussion and not critical at all OK? but I am pretty sceptical about a describing these as 'wind gust' occurrences rolling an aircraft ... an apparent increase in wind speed is going to increase airspeed and if anything will yaw the aircraft and perhaps move it side ways. Remember the wing doesn't know it is flying relative to the ground in any axis, it is just trapped in space relative to the ground vs the wind/airspeed.
With the winter fading what these aircraft are experiencing is probably thermic lift activity and/or just turbulence associated with wind shear and mixing areas (strata) of differing winds. YES however If you have embedded CB they can be hard to detect but the signs are always there.

OK got a winner!
Try GLYMPSE
Basically a 'tracking' App works on more than just Apple gear, basically just send a message to someone (as many as you want) in your contacts and it lets them log into a web site or just the App on their device and see where you are/or are heading on Google maps. Been using it a little but gave it the full run today with a mate tracking my flight all over the place.
FREE!!! Nothing to lose! (no doubt they will likely add ads or such later to make you pay for the 'upgrade')

Well you got me motivated to put aside the enormous amount of work I have to do at home and I went for a fly today. YBOA > Maroon > Canungra > Nth Tamborine > Coulson > YGAS Gatton Air park > YBOA. 2.5 hrs 40L. Bit hazy out there with the recent bushfire activity and cloud base was quite low to start with. Anyway nice scenic tour Driftering... Drifterising... Drifting... whatever... some photo's (think I have the places right)
Mt Maroon looking south to the Border ranges and Mt Lindsay.
McGraths Crossing looking south towards the range and Cunninghams Gap
GCOC = Glass Cockpit Open Cockpit
Border Ranges fires and Cunningham's Gap
Mt French. Frog Buttress?
I just follow the aerial, seems to get me there
EDIT: WOOHOO 500 posts!!

Rough calculation shows density alt would have been over 9000', looking on google and estimating the lift off point from the video (which is hard to tell) looks like they took nearly 1km to lift off... or lifted off and touched down again for a bit .............. no flaps set either?
-
THANKS FRANK!
I only put the good ones on video I like to try and straddle the deep grooves on the runway (which you just can make out in the video) centre line puts both wheels in them (that's my excuse at least ) shocking condition on the strip there really, nothing a Drifter won't handle, though some of the peaks in the warped bitumen must sit up 100mm or so

Ditto!fuel availability, contact numbers, surface, accessibility etc. Able to camp with plane or not? -
Part 200 of the CASR's are where you will find the exemptions from the CASR's. Of course the exemption does not apply to the RAA Manual, but it is silent on this issue.
-
Exactly my point Frank... you were talking about regulations (not Orders) that apply to carriage of fuelI doubt it! We are bound by the current CAR`s and CAO`s! We fly under exemptions to those orders.Frank.
emphasis addedwhich are found in the CASR's.... from which we are exempt, as you note.I`ve just tried Google, to find the current regulation on carrying fuelFrank. So
There aren't any that apply to us (RAA reg AC) -

Yeh you can fit 2 plastic 20l in the back seat, actually the ones I have hold 24l easy. So I can carry about 120l... 72 in the tanks (top and belly) plus 48l on the back seat.

Nope no workie

Sorry Maj would have loved to catch up for a Breakie Ck steak but working all week... week end ... and the start of next week as well
-
AH I see.... just to throw another spanner in the works... a plastic tank
-
yeah it is a very hard subject to pin down: the whole compatible with fuel thing. No ethanol in Avgas or JetA1 and they are just sealing a a metal tank. Pro seal seems to be targeted at that sought of thing, sealing a metal tank.
I think that that tank is Fibre Glass re-enforced Vinyl Ester Resin, but I am not real sure what exactly it is you are doing with it so.... don't mind me.....
-
Just FYI some recent research I did came up that Pro-seal was once no good with Ethanol. Probably not an issue now. If you are just after an epoxy then Vinyl Ester is the go.

Cheaper to hire? hmm maybe, but I think not. If you buy smart, look after your aircraft, and fly it... owning is better and cheaper.
