  1. It would be a shame if such a great site aimed at all recreational flyers would not capture, fully include and make welcome the complete set - surely we are all here on a site like this for the fun and sport and info exchange -

    Hi and 098_welcome.gif.81ff07d492568199326e4f64f78d7bc6.gif Ray,

I have been a member here for some time and the only people I have seen made unwelcome are those trying to use the forums to advertise and individuals who like to engage in flying that is less than responsible.

I would say your perception is due to the number of RA-Aus members compared to H.G.F.A and the forum traffic is proportional. There are a lot of people here who are not members of either, some don't even live in this country.

So rest assured you are 098_welcome.gif.81ff07d492568199326e4f64f78d7bc6.gif

    Regards Bill

  2. Sorry but have to say it, HATE micro lites  ?

    Hey Adrian,

Given that 5 of the last 6 threads in just landed have been from trike pilots we are a growing force, so ya betta keep your head down mate 041_helmet.gif.78baac70954ea905d688a02676ee110c.gif 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif 006_laugh.gif.d4257c62d3c07cda468378b239946970.gif

  3. May I suggest you have an mike isolation switch when you need to transmit if you do not want the pax to join in

    Hi Knighty

Thanks for your response, it sounds like you have a great set up.

If I understand you correctly I don't think you get my problem. Communications between pilot and pax are fine even if I transmit it is still the same volume for the pax, it is when we recieve a transmission from another aircraft that the volume is increased for the pilot and is absolutely deafening for the pax :yuk:.

Sounds like I'm going to have to do some serious book learnin' myself, words like trimpot etc. don't mean a lot to me. I was kinda hoping there would be a little screw under a cover somewhere that I would just need to turn a 1/4 clockwise or something 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif Yeah I could probably do that

    Regards Bill

  4. Hi all,

I have recently started taking passengers in my trike, this has highlighted a problem with the radio setup.

When we have the volume set comfortably for intercom communications in coming transmissions are much louder, they are still O.K for the pilot but the pax can't hear for five minutes after receiving a call thumb_down.

Is there something I can do about this ?

The radio is an ICOM IC-A20MKII

Unfortunately I don,t have any info on the box that has the ptt pilot and pax outlets ( will check for identification markings when at the airstrip next if required)

If I wear the pax headset for testing purposes will it still transmit through that mike when the ptt button is pressed ?

    Thanks

    Regards Bill

  5. I love your trike - it's also a 4-stroke isn't it?

    Hi An

Nope it's just a little ol' grey top 582 (2 stroke Rotax) but I love it too.

It didn't cost me a lot and I went that way because I wanted to make sure it (the fun of flying) wasn't a short lived thing before I spend big dollars on a 4 stroke.

You see a few low hour trikes for sale so it must wear off for some people. 049_sad.gif.af5e5c0993af131d9c5bfe880fbbc2a0.gif

    Regards Bill

  6. Hi An,

Yes I have a Pegasus Quantum, that's it pictured at Porepunka in my Avatar.

The float idea appeals to me also especially with all the suitable landing sites around the Gippsland Lakes, but it would have to be an old trike because I sure wouldn't want a 60 k+ aircraft to be splashing down in the salt water 031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif

Are you a local over there or do you travel for your training ?

My wife and I went for a 3 hr round trip down to Sale today, met Alf Jessup (another of Steves former students) on the way. He had a couple with him who recently arrived from Darwin. They have a nice silver xt912, he works at the RAAF base so gets free hangarage and a fire truck standing by everytime he takes off and lands 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

    Regards Bill

  7. Hi and :welcome:An,

Which school are you with at Porepunka ?

I recently trained over there with Steve Ruffles and I'm now flying out of Great Lakes at Lakes Entrance, having a ball.

Do you have your own trike yet ?

    Regards Bill

  8. Lifted from the Airborne newsletter

Rotax Extending 912 and 912s TBO

It appears that the other big announcement coming very soon is the Service Bulletin extending the TBO of 912 and 912s engines from 1500 to 2000 hours. It is our understanding that this will apply to engines manufactured 2008 or later. For those of you flying late model aircraft this will certainly help the resale values stay high.

    Regards Bill

  9. that building, when you view it from the esplanade, always reminds me of a woman's bum and thighs. Was that the architect's inspiration or have I just got a filthy mind?;)

I dunno about inspiration or filthy minds, what I do know is if you tell your missus her bum looks like a block of flats..............068_angry.gif.cc43c1d4bb0cee77bfbafb87fd434239.gif :black_eye:

  10. Impressive

    Hi David,

I had a look at your strip on Sunday morning, it looks great. I had my wife on board, she wouldn't let me land 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif (she doesn't realize how good she looks in her flying suit).

I will bring my 14 year old son sometime he's keen to land anywhere and everywhere:loopy:

    Regards Bill

  11. 1. My TIF

    2. Finding someone had messed with my trike whilst it was stored in the hangar, causing considerable damage when Instructor and I set it up .068_angry.gif.cc43c1d4bb0cee77bfbafb87fd434239.gif

    4. Taking my wife flying the first time and finding she loved it :)

Looking forward to number 5 wonder what it will be ? (maybe one of those things I don't know I don't know)

    Regards Bill

  12. In all honesty Icebob that comment is a bit of a worry, I believe if the book says 300hrs than it's 300hrs no questions asked.

    Hi Bla,

I think there are a lot of people out there with engines well over the 300 hrs, have a look here :http://www.recreationalflying.com/forum/engines-props/26662-how-many-hours-out-your-2-stroke.html

If you are flying with the idea that your engine can stop at any time (within glide distance of a landing site) then there are a lot worse things that can go wrong than an engine failure. Having said that it hasn't happened to me yet, I hope I still say the same after it does i_dunno.

When I read of the cost to overhaul or replace these little motors:ah_oh: ( i can replace my 250 cc ag bike for less and it comes with disc brakes, suspension, stainless exhaust, wheels, gearbox, lighting system is four stroke and even has a seat) I hope mine goes well past 300 hrs or I will be grounded for some time with the economic climate the way it is.

And that will not be good...........

    Regards Bill

  13. My money's on the sender.

    Hi Dexter,

It's lucky it's only your money and not your house, 'cause the sender is fine 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

I thought I would then check the wire (not sure which is the continuity setting on the meter though), a nice thin little brown wire departing the sender AND A WHOLE HEAP OF THICKER WIRES arriving at the back of the guage 088_censored.gif.2b71e8da9d295ba8f94b998d0f2420b4.gif, none of which are brown . It had got a bit dark on me by then, so I'll have to suss that out another day.

    Regards Bill

  14. Hi all,

My coolant temp gauge has failed 049_sad.gif.af5e5c0993af131d9c5bfe880fbbc2a0.gif, and I am wondering how to diagnose whether it is the sender or the actual guage.

I have a small digital multimeter but no clue of how to use it .

Any ideas (read step by step instruction) would be appreciated.

    Regards Bill

  15. Hi David,

I fly a trike out of Great Lakes (Cambells airfield).Only have about 30 hrs up so far.

I have a strip (read paddock) at home in Bruthen but no hangar, so until the dairy industry recovers enough that I can afford to build one I will have to keep paying rent 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

Wondering where your strip is ?

Anyway you should enjoy it here, lots of good info and a bit of fun as well

    Regards Bill

  16. Over here in the UK they are putting ethanol in out petrol,

Hope your not using it in your premix 2 stroke as it doesn't mix with the oil properly.

I don't know if that is still a problem with oil injection ?????????????

    Regards Bill

  17. Flightwatch actually doesn't exist anymore either, hasn't since last year some time, .

Somebody should tell the people conducting the radio operators endorsement exam !

I completed my theory exam last month, there where three questions with at least one of the multiple choice answers being to use the Flightwatch frequencies, for each one the correct answer was to use flightwatch.

Example: question 41 When flying in class G or E airspace what frequency would you use to access the QNH value for a particular airstrip whilst in flight?

    a) Use the FLIGHTWATCH frequency to aquire QNH

    b) On the VOR & NDB frequencies as a part of AWIB

    c) Use the appropriate Area frequency

    d) Either b or c

    e) Both a & b

    I said 'a', the correct answer was 'e' 036_faint.gif.544c913aae3989c0f13fd9d3b82e4e2c.gif

  18. So, how many different models of trike did you think there are question.gif.c2f6860684cbd9834a97934921df4bcb.gif

Check this out: Guide to Microlights and Ultralights from around the world.

Particularly notable: One that goes on car wheels so you tow it behind the car without a trailer. 036_faint.gif.544c913aae3989c0f13fd9d3b82e4e2c.gif

One with a removable Yammy yz80 built into it (Imagine flying into Porepunka, unbolt the bike, ride into Bright for a counter lunch........041_helmet.gif.78baac70954ea905d688a02676ee110c.gif

Amphibs, Retractable landing gear types, Semi enclosed cockpits, 3 seaters etc. :raise_eyebrow:

There is also one with a Subaru motor Glenn, is that an option for the buzzard ? i_dunno

Too big maybe, probably cheap enough though if you have the know how to aircraftorize it yourself.

    Regards Bill

  19. When I was looking to purchase an aircraft all the good judges where telling me not to buy a grey head 582 because the crank bearings are supposedly not reliable, but if Frank can get those sort of hours from a grey top then the blue head motors must be good

Oh BTW I bought a grey top (it was in my price range;)), it has 350 hrs on it now with no issues yet.:thumb_up:

    Regards Bill
