1. Great photos thanks - now how about a couple of derelict airframes for somewhere off South Stradbroke Island?
2. I reckon you guys have called it right, not enough other movement for it to be wind. I saw the same thing discussed elsewhere last night, not having watched in fullscreen I missed the fact that there were actually tiedowns involved - they broke:eek: Maybe time to rethink the miserable bits of clothesline so many people seem to use, plus they deteriorate in the sunlight, some of them pretty quickly.
3. Yup, got to love those split personalities! Welcome aboard tracktop.
4. I wouldn't worry, she is just the sort of cheap n disposable pilot Uncle Alan is looking for at Qantas (Asia):). Seriously though, the mind boggles that someone could get to that level ie. command on a jet, before her shortcomings became evident. I'm willing to bet there are a string of instructors who had doubts along the way but the system allowed her through - until now.
5. Not really and not funny either, just a good lesson on why tie downs are a good idea..... http://izismile.com/2011/11/16/its_impressive_what_strong_winds_can_cause.html Sorry not able to embed.
6. Found this over on the RV forums and thought some here might find it interesting. Lots of questions from those in the know re weight and CofG issues - practicality aside, that at least does look and sound more like a "real" RV :). Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of respect for Herr Rotax's 912 and by all accounts the standard RV-12 is a honey - I just can't quite come to love her face......
7. Shades of Motoart - albeit on a slightly grander scale! http://www.motoart.com/ I managed to rescue a bunch of prop blades from the scrap merchant and am slowly restoring them to display condition, however I would kill for access to a couple of scrap airframes to recycle - or even a defunct radial to turn into a coffee table:) From the Motoart catalogue:
8. That's a shame, great event that. Oh well, opens the door for someone else to put something on in the SEQ, Northern Rivers in early Jan 2012.....hint, hint!
9. Not too far from you Michael, but you'd be doing well if you picked it from the limited view - Canungra International and yes it is a Moose, Southport based I believe.
10. Bonus points for where - excluding Dazza:)
11. Another well known one in the same vein, with a more serious result;
12. Ah yes, now that one is directly applicable to our type of flying - do not try and force an aircraft onto the ground! That nose oleo put up with a surprising amount of abuse before crying enough.
13. Yup, no 1 is VH-ELQ that went a over k off South Stradbroke after a stray crabpot caused driver distraction, no 2 is a SAAF Museum Shakelton that went down in the Sahara at night en route to the UK and eventually Oshkosh in about '94, the wreck including 4 x RR Griffons, is apparently still largely intact thanks to the remote location, no 3 is a Rans S-10 that lost a wing and demonstrated some of the advantages of a ballistic chute despite a minor fire, no 4 is Saudi 747 that left the runway at Medina thanks to an assymetric thrust reverser deployment.
14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpo0gYgV1ik Makes me feel a bit better about the odd shocker I have produced over the years......
15. I was going through a file of photos I'd collected of various aviation incidents and mishaps - wondered whether any of you wanted to hazard a guess at "where, what and how" they ended up where they did. 1. 2. 3. 4.
16. Pure pedal power from what I could make out
17. Ha ha Willie, exactly what I thought when I saw this masterpiece at Watts Bridge a year or two back - beautifully built piece of art;
18. Lives at Archer normally, Willie. Previous owner had her hangared out at Watts Bridge.

Hi People

Hi Andy - good to "see" you here.
20. CAB Wasp? I remember the subject came up once before and Ozzie had some background, if I remember correctly he said that some of them had a V tail. Saw this one at Watts Bridge a year or two back;
21. Hi John, welcome aboard - still planning to take a run down and join you guys for brunch next time around - 27th isn't it?

Good Outcome

I think you're jumping to confusions David, he may have a perfectly valid reason for having less fuel than he thought ie leak or similar outside influence, however by my rough reckoning the trip he embarked on would be marginal with the original 65l tank in the old Jab's. If that is what he was flying (as has been suggested elsewhere) and he could not have had an adequate reserve under normal circumstances, then I would fully expect RA-Aus to ask the hard questions. At the moment we simply don't know enough to reach firm conclusions however, I firmly believe that there are questions which require answers. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see any authority coming down on pilots like the proverbial ton of bricks, but if people cut corners it has potential implications for all of our freedom.
23. You're not wrong - lucky too that the Piper is a paraffin burner rather than avgas, I suspect the latter would have gone woof seeing as it got sprayed all over from the Yak prop hacking open the Piper's tanks! Little birdy tells me the Yak driver had finger trouble, shut off or forgot to open the air valve which allows the engine driven compressor to refill the air bottle. Couple of pssst, psssts on the brakes and it was all over......
