Astro photography is becoming popular here , and I’m sure there too . I just wish we could see the sky here , I’ve forgotten what it looks like , maybe I should take up rain photography .

Thanks for sharing . I’ll digest and fully enjoy the read

The PC24 was designed from the very outset to be compatible with rough field and grass runways operations . It’s the reason why the RFDS chooses to operate them . They regularly operate from outback strips .

It’s reported that the twin FDR’s have been recovered .

I suppose it’s one way of finding out who his friends were

And I suppose they're protecting the approach to RWY 25. The VTC indicates a 4 mile final from the coast just north of Maroubra to the threshold. (And 5.5nm from RWY 14 to the coast and V1)
If 25 is in use it's a pretty constant landing stream (in normal times)over the coast just south of Bondi. You'd think that wake turbulence would be the scariest issue, passing underneath all that.
You are spot on there Garfly . The ERSA clearly makes a point of the wake turbulence risk . At the end of the day it’s all about risk mitigation .

Really? not even another 500ft? - cant say I am along this rout every day or even every month but when I have been using it, every commercial aircraft was far far above me. Perhaps I just been lucky.
I see your point for a few NM each side of the Botany Bay approach but down to 500 ft all the way from Long Reef to Maroubra ?? and 1500 ft clearance for extended period over heavily built up areas just doesn't feel right to me.
No not even another 500’ . You were suggesting an additional 1000’ in your original post and I was replying to that suggestion , however , another 500’ would breach all separation requirements between V1 traffic and incoming Sydney arrivals using RW 34L and 34R on crossing the extended centrelines . It is possible to see airliners far above when on VI , they are probably outbound from SYD and climbing to the North and East of the airport at the time , but a heavy airliner just 1000’ above you looks pretty big .

Changing the site name to Aircraft Pilots (.com) certainly would “ cover ALL segments of Recreational including PPL “ , however it would also cover absolutely all aspects of piloting aeroplanes from rag and tube to A380’s and the like , and may attract the pilots of the like in greater numbers than what could be termed recreational flyers , is that what you want ? . I feel that this site may lose its long time identity as a home for recreational flyers to come together , however , change is your prerogative

This one is getting lots of TV coverage. On Sunrise this morning.
Clearly showing the aircraft as 24-8182 with Sydney Flying Academy titles .

Yeah! I have lost count of the Victor One's I have done and on every one I think about the limited opportunities for an "out landing".
Its a great little trip though, just wish they would allow another 1K ft or so, on both the Lane of Entry and V1 itself.
That would be a recipe for disaster and should never happen . A increase to 1500’ would place any V1 traffic in direct conflict with any inbound Sydney traffic landing on 34L or 34R which , in a 3degree approach path would be at 1500’ on passing the Eastern shoreline of Botany Bay . The same separation situation exists for the LOE too with landing aircraft on 16R in particular where presently there is only 1000’ separation with the LL of CTR of 2500’.- 2

The BOM site showed gusts of 64KTs , the same wind speed that flipped a C172 onto its roof at Camden last week .

What a great day it would be to get the BBMF Lanc and this one flying together , and even better to get the CanadIan one too flying in formation . Three Lancs , 12 Merlins , what a sight and sound . Meks the hairs stand up on the neck ?

I managed to find the report on aviation-safety.net . Looks like your bog standard refusal of the undercart to lower . Thankfully just one minor injury . Unfortunately I don’t appear to be able to attach the file here , but it is easily viewable on their website .

Well the US consulate staff have left , in fact they have been kicked out of Chengdu .

An Antonov AN 124 visited Sydney on 13/4/ 20 , it landed from Colombo and departed later that day to Kuala Lumpur . I doubt it was carrying cargo for the Snowy Mts scheme , Canberra would have been a better option . They are not a rare sight in Australia and usually can been seen occasionally in Syd .

It might have been the one that brought a full load of troops into Melbourne.
it was that very aeroplane that flew into MEL yesterday . It’s sister flew AL Minhad - Darwin - Sydney yesterday .

This is one of the two A340’s that Hi Fly use around Australia ferrying military personnel around . This is taking off from SYD . As I said they are a very common sight in SYD , they also visit Brisbane , Darwin and yesterday there was one in Melbourne too . This airline also operate A330 and a A380 aircraft in “ normal “ colour schemes and operate on civilian flights .

It’s a regular military charter operated by Hi Fly , a Portugal registered airline . It’s an Airbus A340-300 and a very common sight in Sydney , using the call sign “ Aussie xxx” . It ferries Australian military personnel around the World .

It would be pretty scary for the passengers but close to terrifying for the crew at the pointy end of the plane.
No passengers on that one . It’s a regular freight runner into Birmingham , UK , where this video was shot .

Possibly.
I posted it here because it made me laugh at how stupid the words are.
Say one thing, mean another and do something else.
Seems like all the qualification one needs to enter politics .

I've managed to fish out the two photos of the B170's which I took at Lydd Airport in Kent sometime during 1965 . One of them is G-ANMF which had the distinction of operating the very last B170 passenger flight in the UK . As you can see they are different models , one had the extended nose , the other the rounded nose and clipped vertical stabiliser .

They were operated out of the UK to Europe by Silver City Airways. That company was formed by the Broken Hill mining companies to fly directors around. The company was sold and the new operator had the Bristol Freighters.
Indeed they were . I recall seeing them flying between Blackpool and the Isle of Man in the early 60’s . They were also operated by British United Airlines . I have a photo I took at Lydd Airport in Kent in 1965 , operating passenger flights across the English Channel to Le Touquet . The last UK passenger flight by a Bristol Freighter was in 1965 . I will attempt to fish out the photo I have .

The U2 is a regular visitor to RAF Fairford in the UK , where it often spends some time on detachment . There can often be a number of them there at any time .

Our top condition Super Hornets are being sold back to a Yank company (for peanuts, no doubt), to be used as decoys for the USAAF fighters.
The company buying them is probably doing Toyota leaps at their win - particularly as the FA-18's are being fully reconditioned over 3 or 4 years, before being handed over! They also come with all their spares and tooling!!

The Super Hornet is definitely not being sold off to anyone . You have confused the Super Hornet with the classic FA18 model , a different bird completely . The Super Hornet is a new build state of the art aeroplane , while the FA18 is a 35 yr old job , and a much smaller airframe .

I’ll just translate if I may for our Aussies and others who may not be familiar with the word “ Ruck or Rucks “ , in this instance it is not referring to a Rugby manoeuvre,It merely means many or numerous and can be used in places of colloquialisms such a “ loads , lotsa and shed loads “ . I’m sure rucks of you will appreciate my translation .
