A great photo Phil . It appears that the trailing Herc has the same light arrangement too , although the port wingtip is not visible. My wife’s sister lived in Bradford On Avon many moons ago , and I recall seeing Hercs doing drops at night on the nearby Salisbury Plain , probably out of Lyneham . I believe they are all based at Brize Norton now . My wife’s family moved to Evercreech nr Shelton Mallet some years ago , it’s not bad as now I manage to see A400’s , Hercs and all sort of choppers operating out of nearby Yeovilton, when visiting them down there . I’m back again next month by the way aer kid .

The folding wing option is old tech and old news . It’s always been an option on the 777 , even from day 1 of the original 777, however, until now no airline ever took up the option . It now becomes a “ unique innovation “.

Without any doubt , the most comprehensive and detailed explanation I’ve ever heard detailing this tragedy . There is lots of information there that I was not aware of . In addition to what was said , I was always of the impression that the AF Concordes were not fitted with a deflector plate on the main undercarriage assembly as the BA examples were , to prevent this very chance of tyre debris damage impacting the fuel tank assembly . I may be wrong , but I seem to recall the mention of it somewhere .
I still remember as if yesterday , standing on the deck of a ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg with my young Son , and seeing this aeroplane , which was a AF Concorde , flying overhead at supersonic speed and witnessing its sonic boom , absolutely a magic moment and one my son still remembers after 30 odd years .
Thanks for sharing aer kid .

I think you are probably referring to Barra , the Island which lies South of South Uist if you get the drift . LoganAir operate Twotters landing on the beach runways there on a schedule from Glasgow . I think the airports availability is determined by the tide , whether it’s in or not . The Twin Otter is an amazing versatile machine , and it’s possible to still get new builds I think . Mar memory ay no gud ay it Aer Kid .They're still operating something resembling Otters into Uist. . .onto the Beach. . .can't recall if thats Uist, or South Uist. . .Ma memry 'O Sco Lan' is nae as guid as it waz Jimmy. . . -
It made an appearance at RAF Brize Norton in the UK this last week , generating a huge gathering of enthusiasts as usual . It departed to Athens .
I was very lucky in seeing it in action a few years ago at the Paris Salon , Le Bourget Airport .

Has me concerned somewhat . He was very popular and really involved on this site and to suddenly “disappear “ and let his pride and joy airplane fall into an unworthy state has me wondering .Used to..(belongs to) Slartibartfast ( last posted 2016)Dave C

I too remember that aircraft and it’s pilot owner too . He was a very prominent contributor and supporter of this site in the early days .Theres an aircraft I knew for a while, havent seen it for a couple of years now. Was very impressed with it, and its pilot. -
Phil , that’s Saba Airport in the Dutch Caribbean . IATA code SAB . Looks like it needs an arrestor cable .

I must have been monitoring at the same time too . The female controller who instructed one arrival “ gear down , nose down , slow down “ was amusing . There did seem to be an unusual number of “emergencies “ , all genuine of course .

No need for apologies Nev , no offence taken , and indeed we were making the same point .Indeed it is, and I humbly apologise about the "need to do the sums again" reference. I can't delete it now unfortunately... The point you made is the same as I was trying to make. The x wind component isn't that large. With high lift-off speeds larger planes have less difficulty with a given crosswind than a slower plane would as the drift angle is much less which is a sort of index of the plane's ability to cope.. Same as most pilots use on smaller planes when they make an approach in x-wind conditions. Most jets would handle 35 knots x wind. Gusts may complicate it and as said water on the runway is a consideration and landing distance with aquaplaning possible affecting directional control and braking. NevDave C

As I said , 10Kts X wind , that’s pretty much between the 9-12kts calculated .
-
That would equate to a max X wind of only 10 kts .What's the crosswind component on Rwy 25 when the wind is 270 @25 kts gusting to 34kts? Could that be the type of weather that causes flight cancellations?Dave C

Thanks for clearing that up for me . It’s a pity it’s no longer open to the public . That whole area is a sea of Mc Mansion dwellings , it’s no surprise I hadnt seen it , being engulfed in such .

Whatever happened to the aviation museum that used to exist at Narellan near the Maccas crossroad ? .

Presumably it had the retrofit bladder fuel tanks , otherwise it could have been a much different outcome .

Down to single runway ops due to the 30kt x wind on the main N/S runways .Oops, already its changed...now showing 35mins late departure and there is still 3hrs to go -
Haha... yes a slip of the finger , should have said BNE of course ..Who's going to Venezuela? -
Is the MEL - BNS flight a Sri Lankan code share ? .
We certainly didn’t? Booked with Sri Lankan on line. -
Thank you Ian for putting us all in the picture . I know I speak for all of us here when I say Caitlin is an inspiration to us all and with your love and dedication she will not only make a full recovery , but shine in life in whatever she decides to undertake . Please accept my sincere thoughts of goodwill .

I remember John Farley very clearly and Raymond Baxter of course . Great memories of that era . I never missed a Farnborough back then, only seems like yesterday , which in itself is a worry .R.I.P. John Farley

Never flown into or been to Bruntingthorpe , but I do think that even I could manage to land on that runway . Do you remember the Victor bomber that accidentally got airborne during a fast taxi run after encountering “ unexpected strong wind gusts” ? . That’s was classic .
I did happen to notice the Dog and Partridge pub at the end of the video , is that a local watering hole to Otherton ?

It was leased to Cubana by a Mexican airline group called Global Air . Global Air had owned the aircraft for 11 years and previously spent all its life operating in the USA , Canada and Mexico, being operated over the years by US Air , Piedmont , a few others and even the US Navy for a short stint .

The first service is due to land at EWR shortly after a relatively “ fast “ 17hr 14m airborne . The aircraft is 9V -SGB , the second A350-900 ULR to be delivered to SQ .
