  1. I loved the VC10 too . I distinctly remember the last time I saw one in the air . It was about 5 years ago , driving up the M5 motorway in England near Gloucester when one flew overhead probably enroute to RAF Brize Norton . I said to my wife " take a look , you'll never see another one flying " , sadly that was the case .. A.British classic .

  2. Air Lingus the Irish airline, used to have a priest bless the flight before take-off.pope.gif.f606ef85899745c40c103dff0622d758.gifHowever, that's going back a good few years.

The last few times I've flown with Emirates and Qatar Airways there's been a prayer from the Holy Quran on the IFE screen before departure , so it still happens , just slightly different in its delivery .

  4. From your thread title , I assume you are contemplating taking RA training at The Oaks airfield near Camden , is that correct ? ... there's no connection in the thread title to the content of your post .

  5. WW2 airfield. . .always short of finance. . .luckily, it's a standard RAF 'Triangle' plan, so there are 2 spare runways meaning that it won't have to close down whilst repairs are carried out.I hope the Vampire operator is well insured ! !

Knowing " The Green " like you Phil , I was surprised to read that 10 was the preferred runway for the Vampire departure . 16 would have been a better bet , it's longer and presumably stronger as it does handle regular exec jets . I suppose the wind must have dictated 10 ...

I know a few Gypos who would more than happy to go out there with a shovel or two of Tarmac for a few quid ..

  6. The first two RAAF F35's arrived at Amberley on Monday afternoon .

I was at the RIAT at RAF Fairford in the U.K. , where there were 6 F35's displayed . According to sources there , each F35 required 14 air to air refuelling top ups to make the non stop flight across the North Atlantic . I wonder how many tops ups the Aussies ones had for their Pacific crossing ?

  7. I've just returned from the inaugural OzKosh and I fully endorse all the comments here . It certainly exceeded my expectations and I was duly impressed . Well done to all the organisers , and looking forward to the next ..

  8. I've just returned from The Oaks , and can confirm 5 damaged aircraft , these are 1 Bob Cat , 1 Sonerrai 2LT , 1 Searay and 2 Jabs. The Sonerrai and Searay appear to be write offs with the Jabs and Bobcat being damaged but repairable . As far as tie downs etc. I can't comment , however , I do know that the Sonnerai was hangared and that the hangar was completely destroyed and some of its structure has been located about 500M distant . The Bobcat and Jabirus were damaged by flying debris and their tie downs were not compromised .
