  1. Thanks matey. . . .I will NEVER allow someone to kill me without arguing about it. . . . .I dunno how this is going to pan out, I know the Barstard will tell lies to the CAA,. . . .If he says that a 'Non-Pilot' took over control of the aircraft ,. . .then I'm going to be involved in a court case. . . . .He had a licence. . .I didn't. . .

Phil you are here telling us your tale. To be blunt mate F**K what the CAA think, say or do.

The other possibility does not bear thinking about.

PS:- Being a Quasi Aussie you should know that "Bastard" only has one "R".001_smile.gif.bb705e7282f2f19cc33cc5f00844ef33.gif

  2. Good advice. I will go with the bank cheque and someone to fly it back if it all stacks up. I will have it inspected by a LAME. One of the issues is that the local LAME was working on it and will have some loyalty to the seller.

You really do need to find an independent LAME to inspect it.The result of the inspection should then allow you to negotiate price, depending on what needs doing and what the seller is prepared to cover of that.

  3. Ah you have to forgive this noobs loose use of terms! I am talking kits. I don’t think I would go for anything too experimental (I have never been an early adopter). That Suzuki jobbie sounds like a good option for other people. A lot of kits seem to have mounts for jabiru and rotax so although I’d like to hear about what’s out there (for instance D motor) in all likelihood it will boil down to those two. I am doing my RA-aus conversation from GFPT at the moment so already familiar with the 912 in the tecnam the school uses but I haven’t even looked at a jabiru engine let alone flown with one.

The D Motor uses the Jab engine mount so no problems there.

But as you said you are not normally an early adopter so that probably cuts you out from both DMotor and Jabiru.

Lets not be under and false assumtions about the new Jab motor, It is still totally unproven and in fact has had some issues.

  4. She's probably right, CASA might have been prodded in the side to make this witch hunt happen, politics in Australia is as grubby as it gets!!

    She actually mentions that.

Her comments were something like, "The major parties are always trying to hang something on us."

  5. Listening to Pauline tonight, she says it is a witch hunt because she spoke out against Carmody being appointed Chief Executive Officer and Director of Aviation Safety with no Aviation Experience.

She was very vocal about it and she believes that this is payback.

Her comment on ABC tonight was "He is a bureaucrat who knows little about Aviation."

  6. Those of us Queenslanders who enjoy daylight have to create our own Daylight Saving Time since the dinosaurs have barely arrived in the 20th century, never mind the 21st!

Old Indian saying which I feel is appropriate in respect to Daylight Saving.

Only a White Man could cut 2 inches of the top of a blanket and sew it to the bottom of the blanket and then think he had a longer blanket.

  7. I was going to learn to fly in Gympie, and negotiate a sweet deal because they will be my first choice of people to buy the plane from, unless I get a second hand one. Gympie is about three hours drive from Brisbane. The irony is that it would not really be practicable for the instructor to fly the plane down from Gympie to Archerfield to teach me! It's too far! From memory it is about 130 nm from Gympie airfield to Archerfield!

So do all your training in Gympie until you get to the RPL controlled airfield/airspace part.

Alternately Caboolture Recreational Aviation have a Foxbat online and very experienced instructors in the Foxbat.

You could do the RPC there, then go on to Gympie just for the RPL.

I would personally recommend the people at CRA. That is where I learned in their Foxbat.

Having said that I have flown with one of the instructors at Gympie as well and felt very comfortable there as well.

  8. Going back to the original problem, why not go to a combined RAA/GA school that has Foxbats?

Do your RAA Cert in their aircraft whilst you are waiting for yours to arrive, then when yours arrives do your RPL conversion in it if it is VH registered.

There is such a school just up the road at Gympie.

This solves one of your earlier questions as well about finding an instructor the knows Foxbats as well.

  9. Geoff didn't say he considered becoming a CFI he said he considered getting his instructors rating. There is a fair difference between a simple instructor and a CFI.

There may be some confusion coming in from the US where any flight instructor is a CFI (certified flying instructor).

That was where my original comment was headed. In RAA at lease there are big steps to becoming a CFI.

Not certain of the hours now but basically I think it follows something similar to the below.

    Instructor

100hours plus PMI plus Instructors course.

    Senior Instructor

    d. have utilised their instructor rating at an RAAus FTS and satisfied their CFI (or higher approval holder) that they will be capable of carrying out the duties and responsibilities of a Senior Instructor, detailed in Section 1.07; and e. have demonstrated to their CFI the ability to satisfactorily train and correctly assess at least 3 RAAus Student Pilots for their first solo flight; and

    RAAus OPERATIONS MANUAL Section 2.09 - 1 ISSUE 7.1 –AUGUST 2016

    GROUP A and B

    f. Demonstrate to a CFI (or higher approval holder) the ability to give ground and in-flight instruction to persons undertaking training in recreational aeroplanes in the Aeroplane Group for which the rating is sought.

Note: First solo means the first solo flight of a Student Pilot who has never acted as pilot in command under any other Certificate or Licence.

    CFI

    AERONAUTICAL EXPERIENCE

    4. Prior to undertaking an in-flight examination for the issue of a Group A or B Chief Flying Instructor Approval, an applicant must: a. have a minimum of 250 hours logged as a flight instructor in Group A or B recreational aeroplanes; or  b. have held a RAAus Instructor Rating, or RAAus Senior Instructor Rating, for a combined period of at least 12 months.

    5. If having recognised qualifications from a recognised organisation other than RAAus, the candidate must satisfy the requirements of Section 2.13 Paragraphs 12 and 13 of this manual.

  10. Hi @Geoff13

The base requirements to commence instruction as someone who teaches others in GA are prety straighforward. I presume RA is same or similar.

You're pointless personal barbs add nothing to a discussion about the general abilities of people to instruct. I certainly hope you are not one with such a blunt and derogatory attitude. I'd loathe to be a struggling student in your cockpit.

    Thanks anyway,

    Ramjet

It wasn't meant to be a personal Barb. But if you took it as such I am sorry.

I was merely pointing out that within RAA there is far more to becoming a CFI than a Cert 4.

As it turns out you will never have to worry about being a struggling student in my cockpit because I am not an instructor.

I did once consider becoming one purely to try and improve my own flying skills, but RAA instructor rating according to the Ops Manual is more directed at instructional techniques rather than flying training so I decided not to bother.

For me personally becoming an instructor so that I can teach is a low priority as I fly for pleasure and worry that if I started to instruct it become another job to me.

  11. Better do some more homework I think.

RRAus Ops Manual is very clear on requirements for an Instructor, a Senior Instructor and then CFI.

It is certainly niether a simple step nor a short step to become a CFI.

Aand if you cant find those requirements yourself, then you probably dont meet the rquirements of an instructor let alone a CFI

  12. I second the recommend for Caboolture Recreational Aviation. Some very experienced Foxbat instructors there.

No reason why you can't do your RAA Certificate there and then go on to Gympie or Archerfield for your RPL.

Either way you won't be able to do your RAA and RPL in the same plane, unless you change it from RAA to VH rego in between steps.

  13. Like many truckies I have been first on scene at to many accidents.

Each accident is different and each one invokes different responses.

Just last week I was first on scene when a truck hit a train.

Running up from behind the trailers I suddenly realised that I was struggling to walk forward and I was actually saying out loud even though there was no one in earshot "I do not want to do this why is there no-one else here"

So yes I can understand people hanging back but deep down in my case anyway is the overwhelming urge that I may be able to help someone.

What I cannot comprehend is people standing back filming. If you can't help then at least get the Frig out of the way.

In the train Vs Truck, luckily the train hit inches in front of the firewall and no major injuries other than a bruised knee, a cut finger and severe shock.

  14. From the Foxbat POH

    f. Holes in the fabric. Any tearing or hole in the fabric wing/control surface coverings should be carefully examined to determine the cause. Small accidental holes or tears – up to 5mm in length/diameter - can be temporarily repaired using duct tape or100 mile-an-hour tape of a colour to match your paint. However, these small holes and any larger ones must be repaired permanently using a patch of Diatex fabric and suitable glue. Once repaired, the patch can be painted to match the aircraft.
