Awkward..... ;)

First Area Solo was an even bigger buzz for me, in terms of being nervous and actually making it back ;)

Fantastic. well done!

It's times like these I question my career choice ...... maybe I can still get that shire job riding around on a mower listening to my ipod..... Good luck Ian :)2:01 pm Anxiety begins with incompatible OS and database7:48 pm System administrator appears to have aged 10 years in one day, caffeine infusion by intravenous drip commences.3:52 am Ambulance and police called to attend a disturbance from within a house by a psychotic individual screaming obscenities and verbally threatening to kill something/someone. On arrival a second person seen to be cowering in a foetal position in the corner of a room with parts of a server scattered all over the floor.

I think it's @RA-Aus

Yes it clipped in just fine, perfect fit. Good point nev about overheating, I haven't had a problem but I'm not aware of any issues with those batteries, I don't use mine in an aircraft as the plane I hire already has a 296 installed in the panel.

Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one, I am the king of blowfish and other inedible fish around those parts, rumour has it you have to go further south or closer to perth for some decent fishing, (that really narrows it down I know .. I've been invited out with some of the locals maybe then ill have better luck) still beats sitting in the office though.
Spot on with the avatar! Might catch you around the aero club sometime.

I'm not sure if this will answer your question directly, but our 296's battery recently died, Garmin wanted to charge something silly for a new one, so I took a chance and bought one off ebay, for approx $20 ( Hong Kong) delivered to my door. Its worked flawlessly ever since. It may be worth keeping one as a spare? I usually get a couple of hours out of the battery when not charging ( I haven't had a chance to run the battery flat and test how long it goes).

Welcome! From your Avatar you're a fisherman too (?), so you must be allright ;)

$5 Brekky is the Carrot, the Stick is potentially a couple of hundred dollars cost of flying in but we just ignore that part in aviation ;) Any excuse to fly in an look/talk about aeroplanes....

just pull the fuel dump lever in the jab while buzzing 3 feet over his rose garden at 3am (ensure it's full moon unless you have night vision)..

I've been meaning to go to one of those Bunbury breakfasts - I believe they are quite popular with people flying in from all over for a $5 breakfast.... :)
-
Welcome John, what are you flying at the moment?

~$260 per hour dual at my club/school, for a tecnam p92. seems pretty steep looking at this thread.... It's primarily a ga school and apparently not for profit (?) the instructors probably get the same rate wether they are trAining someone for raaus or ppl/cpl.
I am however impressed with the professionalism, training and maintenance standards at the club.

Epic, thanks for posting! I have this strange urge to scratch build a glider.....

Perhaps I need a STOL aircraft of some sort and land on one of the beaches trololololol.....
-
Wow thanks guys I'll let you know what I find out. $45! that's insane haha, but then Rottnest has more signposts, rules and regs of what to do and not to do per square kilometer than anywhere else on the planet... they have to pay the nannys that run the joint
-
I'm yet to complete my Nav training and was wondering if it is possible to go over to Rottnest island in a raaus aircraft. I know it skirts pretty close to perth controlled airspace and doesn't look like you'd be able to go much higher than 2500ft. Has anyone done it before and is it even legal etc. yes I will read up the regs etc but was just curious as I reckon it could be an awesome day trip or even overnighter. Rottnest is also notorious for its crosswinds ;)

The difference between God and a pilot? God doesn't think he is a pilot.....

Cool video on Sebring . I love the look of the SAM ls. That silicon rescue tape would be a handy addition too..

I thought they found pipes, no spitfires, search continues, sad outcome, so far

correct for wind.... oh wait....
-
We used them once as the wind was blowing hard down 27 and the sun was setting, decided to wait for the sun to drop behind the horizon, gives you another 10 mins or so before last light, enough to do a circuit and land, activated the lights it was like Xmas :) landed with plenty of light to spare.
It's safer than landing into the sun or trying the cross runway which would've been a hairy crosswind..... Having the instructor with me also helped as I wouldn't want to cut it that fine normally.
