Nice, I spent a few years in the nelspruit area, flew out of FANS and Kruger? ( I forget the airport name) mostly as hangar rat/ map holder but was good fun flying into the game lodges around Kruger national park. I hear you about GA costs, thank goodness for raaus otherwise I would have the flying characteristics of a half brick..... (Debatable if you ask my instructors ;)

Went on a recent trip from perth to Kalgoorlie and back on the same day. Took these screenshots out of ozrunways on the iPad. Perth airport was congested, sat on the Tarmac for 40 minutes till we got a turn on the runway. So they had to crank it a bit. We barely had time to drink our coffee and we were in Kalgoorlie, ground speed was around 500 knots.

On the return trip we left on time but we were told perth airspace was congested again and had to slow down, would be 40 minutes late, banked left ( south) and ground speed was down to about 280 knots. Slower flight back.

Tuesday and Thursday seem to be the busiest in perth due to FIFO traffic

I would say you need to become a member of Raaus again, then go see your instructor, he will assess your skills and get you back up to standard, I guess it will be similar to a BFR but you will likely do it over a few sessions, then get stuck into your Navs :)

As a low hour pilot I do practice those things by myself but haven't been game to stall it off a steep turn, wouldn't that potentially throw the plane into a spin? I'll grab an instructor for that one

I have bought a 16 gb card as you'll find the battery will go before you fill up the 16gb. Even at highest resolution. Also make sure it is a class 10 card at least . Look online and you can pick up good brands a lot cheaper than dick smith etc

In theory a tecnam for the price of a j-170/160? I know which way I would go, would be interesting to see what the landed cost here would be..

I think I've spotted your Foxbat parked in one of the Hangars at YBUN, nice looking machine if that's the one. I think there is one down in Busselton as well which they do training on.

Toe brakes are so much easier, I trained in the jab where you have to be a contortionist to use the brake lever... The eaglet is a pleasure to fly by comparison. Ergonomics is a word that is not in jabiru's vocabulary it seems.
