  1. I found that you can practice the procedures on flightsim very well. I have FSX with the orbx scenery for WA, and also use the Allan Blencowe airstrips, so it's fairly customised but I find the navs can be flown spot on, with actual landmarks like powerlines, lakes, wheat bins, transmission towers etc in the correct spots. I custom built my pc for FSX so the graphics are quite good as well. I manually put the weather in e.g winds 226\16 and plan it as if you were planning a real nav. I was amazed at how accurate the sim actually is, woulf find myself overhead at the exact times planned. Sure it's no substitute for the real thing but great for practising planning, inflight procedures, checks, diversions etc. I found the tecnam Sierra (payware) is a great plane for it as well. And it's alot of fun too 004_oh_yeah.gif.82b3078adb230b2d9519fd79c5873d7f.gif

  2. Excuse my ignorance. So currently the CH 750 can't be registered with a MTOW of 600kg in Australia? Why is that? Doesn't leave much useable weight if it's 540kg

  3. That wasn't the same airshow at charles prince Magnet, that was the one in 93 (with the red arrow display) when the air zim pilot did a low pass with a full load of passengers on a commercial flight- BIG TROUBLE for that. quick question spin, were you in the SAAF ?

Thanks Patrick, I did go to both shows, but I was blown away by the red arrows display...those boys can fly!

  4. I too was at this airshow back in '95, so it's not fake. Would love to see the video. I also recall going to the airshow at Charles Prince airport in Harare and seeing the Red Arrows, not sure if that was the same airshow but memorable just the same. Damn I was 16 at the time.. seems like yesterday :)

  5. David, the Super AMOLED screen uses a lot less power which is why the Galaxy has a long battery life compared to the Desire.

My Desire has the Amoled screen, have they changed this on newer releases?

Side note: I installed this Zagg invisible shield to protect from scratches - bit tricky to install but looks and feels great, happy with it, no difference in screen sensitivity which was my worry. You can order it locally from their dealer for faster delivery, but cost me less to order it from the US (took a couple of weeks to get here.) They have a promo on the website which discounts it..

  6. Excuse my ignorance but does the government not offer assistance for pilot training (CPL)?

Something similar to fee help or HECS if you want to get a degree at uni for instance?

There are aviation degrees I have read about where you do a cpl (worth looking at?)

e.g. Bachelor Aviation (flying Stream) University of New South Wales - UNSW - Undergraduate Information

Again I haven't researched extensively into this but may be worth a look

  7. I had an ASI failure on my first session of circuits, luckily the instructor was with me and showed me what to do, simple power and attitude, if the engines right (rpm), and the attitude is right, then speed should be correct. Flew an uneventful circuit and after putting her down we taxied back. Turned out the unit failed completely and is now a paperwight. Suppose it comes down to knowing your aircraft. This was in a j160
