  1. Hi Jabpilot and welcome. Good to see you fly the good plastic. I take it that you are referring to the airpark just outside Howard and a beautiful part of the world it is at that. Are others welcome to land there and if so, who can give permission and what fees are there for doing so? It's close to some family I have in the area and I've always wondered if outsiders can fly in there.
  2. Likewise for the J170, 1800rpm, 70 knots brings it home nicely. Gotta love those approaches when everything is trimmed nicely and the plane pretty much does everything else for you.
  3. This activation was interesting and testiment to the integrity of the system. Without the chute this may have been an intirely different story. CAPS pull #6, June 2005, Haverstraw, NY, 1 serious injury (compression fracture of vertabrae) Factors: IFR on approach to KHPN, pilot incapacitated from brain seizure, loss of conciousness, awoke and recovered from Vne dive, determined numbness and loss of function in legs Activation: low altitude, last radar report at 1,600 feet and 190 knots (well above Vpd of 133 knots) Landing: water, bay of Hudson River
  4. I just filled out the application form for my asic card and I feel like I've just been robbed of $160. I'm going to wear it everywhere though...down to the shops, to bed, to work, I'll get my money's worth out of it!
  5. I'd have to agree with Brent here. When I went there a few months ago Rod couldn't do enough for me. He showed me around the factory and spent a lot of time with me going over details of an aircraft I am looking at. Just listening to him talk to other staff there about aircraft issues made me more than aware that he knows his stuff and I would have no hesitation in buying an aircraft from Jabiru. I've only heard good things from others also.
  6. Top work mate, let us know of your progress.
  7. Nice model! Do you know if anyone does a jabiru Brett? I've searched and can't seem to find one.
  8. Touche' Ken...touche'. Bla, if that F14 was fitted with a couple of trusty old 2.2l jabs, he would have nailed that A4! Say Bla, do you need any help...?
  9. What a great topic. Seriously though, when it all comes down to it, everyone knows that only jab pilots go to Miramar...
  10. Good work Wendy, keep it up you'll be right. The challenge is awesome and when you accomplish each milestone, it just adds to the whole experience until that day you are standing there with a cert in your hands. Keep us posted of your progress!
  11. Great report and a nice Queen fish there! I'm with Slarti, any more pics?
  12. Top work Brett. You'll have to do a trip report after taking your better half for a fly. I also knocked over my pax endo hours on sunday and can't wait to show others what I've been raving about for the past 3 months. 4.2 hrs, that's a big day! Did it take you long to get used to the storch?
  13. What a great post. I say this because my parents live in Spitfire Avenue at Strathpine Brisbane. I had heard that the street was actually a taxiway but I believed the street to be the runway due to it's width. Some hoons still think it's a runway too!
  14. Seems a bit strange to me Tomo, given that with the amount of traffic especially on the weekends that he should single you out. I believe that it is important to be able to fly your aircraft and take in others around you at the same time. This is something a student pilot would gain from. I remember though on my first solo, there was another a/c in the circuit and when my instructor made the radio call to that effect, this aircraft landed out of courtesy and the pilot even came over afterwards to share a coffee and offer advice on removing grins stuck to ones face. I thought that was a good display of airmanship!
  15. Top work Tomo! Now the fun (and learning) begins.
  16. Bacchus, flight instructors around Aus are already saying that we 2009'ers are the best yet. ;) Perhaps we should do some shirts up? I guess we'll have to meet at the thread starters base at Dalby.
  17. Sounds great, a fly-in for the class of 2009. I guess some of these older types can come along also...
  18. Hi Gav and welcome. You will find many like-minded people in here. Congrats on getting your cert. The navs are wjere the real fun starts! Keep us posted of your adventures!
  19. Count me in here Tomo. I did everything in one hit in Kingaroy in Feb-Mar. Got my cert, then knocked over the x-country although I had a week off because of that cyclone that hovered off the coast and turned everything IFR (intensley frustrated relfy). I tried to knock over my last 3.5 hrs solo PIC for my pax endo and after touring the finer parts of the South Burnett for 2.5 hrs (my longest solo flight), I felt that pushing 3.5 was too much for me at that stage so I came back to the training office for a cuppa and some advice on how to remove the smile. I've got some pics and vid of a nav I did with my instructor over to Double Island Point near Rainbow Beach that I'll have to post when I get back home. It was awesome and the experience of coming over the ranges and into the clean smooth ocean air was amazing. The tuna working that day along the coast were everywhere and being above them rather than throwing lures at them was a different perspective. I am also looking at doing my low level endo as my instructor is a very experienced ag pilot and anything else I can do to make my flying safer down low should it ever be required would be a bonus, on top of all the helpful advice he gave me along the way. I may even have to drop you a line Tomo and come over for a visit to your strip when I knock over that last hour. You're only just over the Bunya hill.
  20. I used a two sided A4 clip board and carefull folded the maps for quick reference without having to unfold them totally, if needed. I also found the other side great for the whizz wheel and ruler/protractor, pencil & spare. I simply clipped everything under the main maps and it was easily readable and stowable for take-offs and landings. You can't go past a really well thought out flight planner sheet though, with all the necessary info there for quick reference. Mick is on the money though with the knee board. I'll be making up a set-up as he described as I think I would would feel more secure knowing that the board is secure and avoid any FO problems.
  21. Great to see you flew a real plane Brett! ;) I remember my second nav when I was hitting all the marks and thinking I was pretty good and then I perfectly navigated to the wrong town. Murgon and Wondai look pretty similar! I remember my instructor asking me which town was on the nose as we were heading back from over the Proston area and the confidence in my answer "well that's Murgon right there" was very convincing until he asked me again about 1 minute later. Confidence dropping at this point, whizz wheel out, wac-map on lap consulted, look out over the nose, look at map, look ahead, look left, look right, look at instructor smiling...well would you look at that, they've moved Wondai to where Murgon should be. Instructor didn't believe me though. It was a great lesson mucking it up and it made me really aware of not letting your guard down. Have you got any schools closer to you Brett? That drive would be a killer.
  22. What a fantastic get-together and some awesome shots there. I'd have to agree with Tomo re the paintwork. It just get's better every time I see it!
  23. I guess the reason I asked if the increase was across the line is that if it does only apply to the 120, then with the extra bits I looked at getting and the end quote for the 120, I am getting close to the price of a 160 or 170. That though, does get me into angry wife territory...any tips on addressing this? :black_eye:
  24. 10% is a fair hike though. Did you hear why this was happening Brent? Seems like a strange time to be doing this.
  25. Doh, I just saw that the Jab 120 has gone up to $63,000 or $60,000 with a reconditioned engine. Does anyone know if they are increasing the price on the entire line?
