  1. If the noise was spark generated RF wouldnt it only be there when recieving or transmitting? or does it come through radio wiring all the time

This is there whenever the VOX circuit is open, even when talking on intercom?

  2. There are 2 sets of head sets, noise was there with only one plugged in, these had no noise when used in a handheld in flight, so yep Ive ruled them out

Im betting on plug lead being loose but wouldnt this show up as a miss on mag checks?

  3. Hi, In y J200 with 3300 engine Ive had a radio noise issue and a power supply problem for a while. Recently tracked down a loose BUS bar connection which fixed up power, now to seriously attack "clatter" noise when in flight. This problem has developed, ie wasnt always there.

Can anyone help with places to start?

Its a Microair 760N, recently upgraded and adjusted and working well.

Cant hear it when radio VOX is "off", but whenever mic is open its very noisy.

It is rev dependant but is always there, much louder when @ higher revs ie. 2800rpm

Doesnt depend on radio volume, always there

I know this has been spoken alot about but rarely does anyone get back as to what fixed the problem.

  4. I think that particular Jab was next to thier stand @ Natfly, Someone I spoke to said it had only been running for a short time.

Real thing they are working on is inflight adjustable for the Jabiru - expected to be around $6K

  5. Yep sort of, I expect the alloy is soft enough to make a good seal

Its a few hundred $ to have done when the engine is being worked on, Ill have mine dont at next overhaul.

I havent had any gaskets blow but Im told Ive been very lucky

  6. Re exhuast mods

I think Im reading you correctly, you may have misunderstood the repair.

It is simply welding a Male cone shaped fitting to the end of each exhaust inlet, this fits tightly into a Female cone shaped machined area in the head, these do not require gaskets at all and fit back on using same bolts etc. It is a method of deleting gaskets and making metal to metal seal

This setup makes it much simpler and more reliable and this is how exhausts are now manufactured by Jabiru. (for some time now)

In talking to them this was a seriuos problem on earlier engines and since this mod was introduced has solved what was a regular repair job, correctly mentioned as severely damaging to the head if flown with a blown gasket. Let alone issues with CO problems in the cockpit

It is an important inspection item at both 50 and 100hrly on engines with gaskets I think

  7. Fuel supply for small airports and towns is a big problem, often smaller places have to buy thier fuel from larger place, ie Dubbo. They also dont sell much fuel but have to provide services like EFT etc. Prices are fixed at supplier level, only thing the reseller can do is alter margin.

All fuel prices spike just before Easter - have a look at Narromine service stations

To compare Avgas at Narromine vs Morabbin is a bit crazy, youd see the same difference in ULP. $0.40/L is fairly std. Dont even start about ineqitable diesel pricing

These small airfieds services simply wont be there if we keep diverting to major towns to save $20 - What happens when these guys start gouging?

Then we see the agitated threads where councils are selling off or not maintaining airfields as no one uses them anymore.

  8. Jabiru can do the mod for you but need the motor back

If you use some high temp silicone it seems to work OK

Jabiru sell the gaskets and arent very expensive

Apparantly it was quite commin to only have them last a few hundred hours, although mine were OK at 500 - changed them anyway.

  9. Firstl Matterhorn White is "new" colour ~05 onwards, older type is more creamy white - I have both on my A/C!!!

The mix is in 1000ml (US Paints G8003)

    PT10 10.3g Actual 10.3g

    PT42 42.4g Actual 32.1g

    PT44 1356.8g actual 1314.4g

Im not really sure what this means but you will need to find a paint supplier who sells Protech paint or have it colour matched

If someone does find an automotive match PLEASE let me know

    Cheers

  10. Ive got 6ply Trelleborgs, and when following up on a vibration issue discovered they dont seem to run true, one in particular.

Stub is OK as is hub/bearing piece - runs perfectly

just seems tyre is mounted poorly or out of round a few mm

Possibly wheel is bent, but doesnt explain out of round problem

    anyone had the same problem?

What is the proper method of mounting onto split rims?
