  1.

the local council in my area does not allow anyone to stay overnight on the airfield except under emergency situations, we had to remove our bunkhouse as a overnight stay.  The council gives our club a peppercorn rent so they have the say on what we can or cant do in the club.

  2. rotax618 I agree with some of the above and yes the boom should be strengthened dont know enough about the Maxir 503 wing but the Ausflight WB 582 wing according to our engineer, is quite capable of the increased weight and performance  also the weight and balance does fall in the new guide lines we have an increase MTOW. Having said that yes if the pilot is a light weight you do need weight on the seat. We had to jump through alot of hoops both from CASA and RAus to get a full certification. all of which was scrutinised twice once by our engineer and again by an RAaus appointed engineer mainly because we where the first mods under the new MARP and we had to prove the concept. As a side note the SB 582 is not suitable for a conversion ends up being too heavy and exceeds MTOW. and I really do agree with you everything you do to an aircraft you must do your due diligence and make sure that what you are attempting is safe.

  3. So let me get this right........You have a factory built aircraft (25 reg)? You changed a motor for a higher powered one.

It is still registered as a factory built.

Did you go through the MARAP process for this modification?

The answer to the question is yes. We where one of the first to use the MARAP process, we have kept the 25 reg and its advantages it was a very long and expensive process, but once we started we had to see it through.
  4. Sorry to bring back an ancient thread but I have a quick question about drifters that I am hoping somebody can answer and as there are already 5000 drifter topics I thought it would be better off re-igniting an old one.Can anybody tell me if the original Maxair 503 vbelt drive, wb drifters can be upgraded to a 582 and registered in the original category or do they have to be registered as an experimental? I may be wrong but I think the Maxairs only came with the early 503’s and then 532 Rotax engines?

So the question is can you put a 582 on a Maxair wb 502 drifter without changing it to experimental category.

My second question is about Rotax 912 and jab 2200 engines.

I have seen both engines on the later strut braced drifters. Can they be fitted to the wire braced drifter? If so only the austflight cert drifters or the Maxair ones also?

I hope that makes sense. Any help is appreciated.

Basically I’m thinking about buying a drifter, hoping to have it long term and am not worried about which engine it currently has but wondering if different types will affect which engines it can be replaced with down the line.

    Thanks for any info

I can answer one part for you 912 can be retro fitted to a wire braced Ausflight done it. Retro fitting the Strut braced seems to be a no go due to the take off weight. However unless you have alot of cash, time and love doing paper work I would forget itFILE4090.JPG.a4de2021b1d9d99c7c7836c7f2509c5f.JPG

  5. Maybe people are overthinking this.If you look at the north end of the strip at Gympie there are plenty of trees. It would be quite likely that it was just a high probability that such an event was going to result in impacting a tree without being fixated.

I think you may be correct M61A the trees that got in the way after the bounces are off to the left I do believe after the bounces and the left wing striking the runway the aircraft was just swung around and headed in the direction of the fence and the trees at this stage I doubt any of us "experts" could have or would have done anything but hold on and hope for the best. no airspeed no rudder control hitting a fence your just not going to get back in the air. And I'm not saying fixation in some circumstances is not a factor, just not this one. I'm just sorry the pilot will have to live with this, I do hope he continues on.
  6. I don't think it is, unless they've used a different font for the rego on each side. The undamaged one has italicized numerals, the damaged one doesn't.

Very observant however trolling the net for images of 7190 brings up both styles of numerals on the aircraft. the happy flyer photo is a much older photo, re the old windsock and the Cessna parked in the background.
  7. Hi. Just checking there are no display windows or special procedures or info for visiting pilots?

    August 5th & 6th 2017

There will be increase in aircraft traffic at the Gympie Aerodrome on the weekend of the 5th & 6th of August.

A NOTAM will be issued prior to the weekend.

A ground frequency of 127.9 will be used by ground operations staff on Sunday the 6th of August. Once landed at YGYM please switch to this frequency.

Refuelling facilities at the aerodrome will be very difficult to access on Sunday the 6th of August due to stationary aircraft on the primary hard stand.

If visiting the facility and staying overnight please refuel your aircraft on the Saturday the 5thof August if you require to.

Aircraft taking part in the Open Day static display are required to be in place before 900 hrs on Sunday the 6th.

There will be regular bus transfers from Cumulus Airpark to the main display area throughout the day on Sunday.

Once positioned in the display, Aircraft will need to remain in place until the close of the event at 1500 hrs.

On ground contact is Paul Garrahy 0436 474 011.

  8. Hi. Just checking there are no display windows or special procedures or info for visiting pilots?

CTAF 126.7 in the area. pilots will be informed of ground frequency. if in use at time, the only other delay could be the C17 if it is in the area.

  9. If you are throwing the Drifter in when you are selling up, give me a ring before you go to the real estate agents please.A house near an Airport, A 912 Drifter, and a stones throw from the Gympie Muster.

Sounds like paradise to me. 017_happy_dance.gif.8a199466e9bd67cc25ecc8b442db76ba.gif080_plane.gif.36548049f8f1bc4c332462aa4f981ffb.gif
