  1. Shafs64 if your looking for a bargan have a look at the RAAus market online there is a Drifter just put up for sale strut braced 582 motor and relativly close to you. $10k or close offer.

  2. Out at the hangar a couple of weeks ago, wide eyed wonderment, like a kid in a chocolate factory. At a rough guess at least 12 new drifters could be built with the parts I saw just in the hangar.

However I think reality must bring us down to earth, just how much are we willing to pay for a brand new Drifter. And for long term its gotta be 912 powered. Would you pay 50 to 60 k.

  3. Mine came from Darwin to SE Queensland. I would remove the wing skins easy job. and roll as stated earlier. if its a suspended engine re the 503 I would remove it. the engine mounting tube is robust however 3 months after transport when I did an engine rebuild I found some really bad cracks in the tube. which the journey may not have caused but wouldnt have helped.

  5. Saw a Drifter a few years ago with two 20 L jerry cans in holders attached directly above the wheel struts, we wont go into the hand pump attached to them for the passenger to transfer fuel to the main tank. pilot reckoned that balance was ok due to the weight over the c of g. would be a good place to store empty containers. my old plane used to carry a bicycle in the same position.

Bit grainy taken from an IPhone but you rarely get 4 drifters in formation these days.
