  1. I taked to an instructor once who did check flights etc for commercial pilots in various a/c. I asked him how he kept up with all the different a/c he flew. Basically he said he didn't. He relied on the student a lot and between them they "worked it out". I guess when you are instructing experienced pilots you have less of a workload.
  2. I don't like bringing doom and gloom stories but they need to be addressed. At Jandakot two Tiger Moths do scenic flights with options for aerobatics. Long while ago one of them broke up doing aerobatics. Undetected rot was the problem. With all the choice in a/c made of composite and metal, you have to go out of your way to find a wooden construction.
  3. The ways of being killed are always there, just a lot of people don't see them. The usual method of risk assesment is if you got away with it this time then you are ok. Close calls are lucky warnings-sometimes you don't get one or ignore it and appear in the newspaper obituary.
  4. I wish people who start threads would respond to them.
  5. Because I wore a parachute sometimes gliding, I took a course. We were told the type of chute we were using was an old style and very reliable etc, etc. On my first jump a girl went just before me and they were watching her for a long time intently. On the ground I hear her parachute didn't open but she used the reserve which is unpacked and thrown out by hand. Only seconds from 1500 feet to the ground. They concluded it wasnt packed properly. That's one short straw I am glad I didn't pull.
  6. How bout a weed hopper at terminal velocity?
  7. Was that them taking everything out before t/o
  8. I hear about it so many times in a panic situation where the ground is coming up. A/c stalls and or spins. Fly speed for best lift/drag or min. sink. A simple stall in most planes won't put the nose down vertically but a resultant incipient spin will. In panic you use ailerons and that just enforces the spin. If I am slow and see a wing drop I use opposite rudder, increase the speed a bit and follow with aileron. Practice it regularly so it's a reflex action. Sometime you may have fraction of a second to get it right and live.
  9. A Hummelbird does 100 kts, but not if you are 6'6.
  10. Hotline to Osama Bin Laden? [They got the wrong guy]
  11. I often wonder why the oceans had to be flavoured with salt-rasberry cordial flavour would be much better.
  12. When the waves are crashing over your boat and you're soaked to the skin you'll wonder why you changed.
  13. Maybe he forgot his flaps among a few other things
  14. That is a soft interpretation, but as this is an aviation forum we''ll just daydream any further scenerio.
  15. If the victim was female I could be a "volunteer" to suck the venom out.
  16. Was it his first solo flight? Had tunnel vision at the time. He was that low he could have easily hit the fence if the car was not there-maybe it saved him.
  17. All the holes in the cheeze lined up
  18. What about sucking the vemon out as well? Problem is you need a volunteer.
  19. Changing to different engines isn't like changing your underwear. Though the best engine would be a vw engine with dual ignition[either the full or the half block] Cheap to o/h and has a tbo over 1000 hrs. I think those modifications are only done in USA unless you do them yourself here. I vaguely remember reading that Rotax are going to restart the production lines for that engine.. You would want to know for sure before you bought an a/c with a 447/503
  20. Rotax ceased production of those two engines years ago and will be supplying parts for only a few more years. Does anyone know if there will be another source for those Rotax engines?
  21. Hollywood could make a movie out of that. Maybe an aviation orientated re-run of "The Waltons"
  22. If you want to commit the perfect murder, that's how to do it. Just discretly bring one parachute [for yourself]
  23. You have to be careful you dont get caught where you can't turn around except into cloud.
