PBS TJ100 jet engine - google says $65 k to buy the engine - assuming US dollars
by way of comparison a B737 engine cost $ 15,000,000 !?!
................ still hoping my investments will ...................

My recently acquired Vixxen likes to fly but is reluctant to descend. I have found that rates of descent with one POB and half fuel at 50 knots end engine idle are:
No flap 200 fpm
1/2 flap 400fpm
full flap 400 fpm.
The flaps are actually flaperons. Idle at 50 knots is 2200 rpm which is a bit higher than I would like, my previous 912s idled at about 1800 on the ground, about 2000 in flight. This is all manageable but getting it down to 50 knots is critical. With a stall speed of 27 knots at MTOW the old 1.3 rule would suggest a speed on final of 36 knots but with low inertia 50 knots is safe, 45 over the fence. Then add a bit of power for the round out, pull the flaps immediately on the ground.
I was expecting the full flap setting would have a higher rate of descent but have tested this several times.
I think that's your problem - motor is idling to high - that's why the plurry thing won't come on down
- on the ground what does it idle at - I'd suggest 1500 - any other bidders please

this is serious stuff where lives are at risk but I can't help thinking of vehicle roundabouts and the human interpretation of what is correct
roundabouts: Situational awarness is required - what lane - where not to cross - when to go and where / / how to exit; (what direction - for some); etc
aircraft circuits: Situational awarness is required but there are vertical and horizontal dimensions, and speeds, heights, conflicting directions, etc
Both require correct human interpretation - radios will help a great deal (joining pilots can understand the likely circuit being used and who is out there using a radio properly) - but I think the human interpretation of what is the correct way to join is the big one

I got into a scrap with a broker over dishonest advertising in part by a vendor who handled the truth loosely. But the broker said they all do it that way.
its not they are liars ................... they are just strangers to the truth

RAAus / Sport Pilot: https://aviationclassifieds.com.au/
nevertheless the above website usually has 30 odd planes for sale - currently only 8 (actual less than that)
.................... either:
- easy to sell
- hard to keep (if that's true; there'd be more for sale than 😎
-
my uneducated guess the 3 % - it was about that when I had aircraft insurance cover
I'm also curious how much a $ 200k cover costs ?

your insurance company will / might take a dim (almost murky, gloomy bordering on dark) view of any non engineered structure ?
- causing damage to you aircraft and particularly surrounding damage to other property

I'll guess .................. 3 % ................ somewhere between $ 4,500 & $ 6,000 ???
probably $ 5,190

do swan-neck turns (fantasising about the double trailers behind their car)
often wonder about left turning cars and consuming all the left side of the road - can only think that drivers don't know how wide their car is (there is so much car shell built around the vehicle occupants)
you see it also on narrow roads and bridges - some drivers don't know where their wheels are / width of their vehicles

There's now a cafe on the moon. Great food, but absolutely no atmosphere.
I've been there - they have some books on anti-gravity (theoretical analysis) - once reading them ................. they are very hard to put down

in post No 1 (point 2) it says ............ 'the engine stops before deployment' ......... - is that part of the standard installation / system requirement ? - the 'chute pull handle' stops the engine ?
BRS shortcomings are:
- The BRS unit and mountings weigh around 30 kg. It has to be placed in the tail section (thus moving the C of G aft) and requires parts of the airframe to be strengthened to withstand the forces associated with deployment, adding another 7 Kg. Combine weight and balance considerations and at least one passenger seat has been sacrificed for the same endurance.
- There is no control once the system is activated because the engine stops before deployment; and the descent speed is 25 feet per second…
-
The system is airspeed limited:
- the aircraft must not exceed a set speed before deployment;

contrived analysis follows !:
a quick look through the list seems to me that insurance sees 'impact' and 'gravity' (sudden stop at the end) ............. as a risk
Insurance seems quiet forgiving when it comes to 'water'
I wonder which category has killed the most (I'd have thought water would be the biggest killer) ?
maybe playing with water is tolerated cause we have been doing it longer ......... but those new fangled flying contraptions might take another couple of hundred years to wait before they are tolerated more

eg. My super fund as Life/TPD insurance with Zurich - my super fund fail to mention anything about exclusions but refer to Zurich as the insurer and that their policy applies ... Zurich excluded activities is a lovely fun list of exclusions and escalations of premiums - take a look at page 4 of the attached for general information - its not actually my coverage exclusion as the super fund negotiated an amended list for the members.

I will admit that the thought of the family having to dispose of a half-built project if I carked it does bother me, but I guess the solution to that problem is to just not die. So far, so good… 😛
ironically you are our ? potential benefactor sfGnome - you could well enrich this website and one members life with this potential half-built project !

call me a dinosaur but I can't see how a car (a 2 dimensional thing) can ever be a flying car (a 3 dimensional thing) - a flying car for the masses
(I mean you've just picked up Pizza - all the drones could not fly that 24 hour period) so it was a drive / flight to the Pizza shop and it was time to get home ............ quick
case in point - insurance claims for cars - some good ones such as below:
- “Going to work at 7am this morning I drove out of my drive straight into a bus. The bus was 5 minutes early..”
- “I knew the dog was possessive about the car but I would not have asked her to drive it if I had thought there was any risk.”
- “I collided with a stationary truck coming the other way”
- “The pedestrian had no idea which way to run as I ran over him.
- “Coming home, I drove into the wrong house and collided with a tree I don’t have.”

good work on your first post Ben
I don't even know what bankstown looks like ! - but I think commercial pressure for capital and rent seems to exceed what flight schools can generate in income ...................... they move to where things are a bit cheaper ?

i tried looking for performance specs for some of these planes - stall speeds seldom mentioned (if at all)
my guess is:
- lowest stall speed - Hurricane - 80 knots
- fastest stall speed - Electric Lightning - 155 knots
Any one wants to argue ? .................................... winner takes all (plus the light green 2 tone '55 vauxhall velox (with 5 new ! retreads))

hope the terminology is right ?
been wondering when a radial motor has hydraulic lock (oil bottom cylinders) I imagine you either pull the prop through or take the spark plugs out
a) how is that achieved when a radial powered flying boat is moored in water ?
thanks

250 hp might be enough ........... but the bloke at the end of the queue (you know - the one following too close & looking over your right fender and right side mirror) needs 350 hp to get past 'you' all
