  1. I have noticed larger turbo prop aircraft are getting a greater number of thicker blades on their props with great result in lowering noise and it has me thinking, is it more fuel efficent? Or is it a compromise in reducing noise? If it is more fuel efficent and quieter, when will we see them on RA aircraft? Has anyone been testing new designs of prop on their light aircraft and are you seeing positive results?
  2. Or doing something too well, the new baby is due in July lol.
  3. I want to know all the records attached to a drifter aircraft and the personal bests from Drifter owners. 1. Greatest distance flown in one go. 2. Longest time in the air. 3. Most hours on airframe. 4. Highest Altitude. 5. Most hours on type. 6. Coldest/hottest day flying. 7. Hours on engine. And any other achievnent associated with the Drifter type aircraft.
  4. 2 of best 3 aircraft to come out of France.
  5. Love bikes, love planes more. 81 Yamaha XT250. 79 Yamaha DT175 1979. 91 Yamaha FZR 250 1991. Mix of 93 to 97 parts Yamaha TZ 125 GP $2 spray can yellow fairings with a $2 clear coat, came out looking good. 93 Suzuki RM 250. 99 Kawasaki ZX6R. 05 Kawasaki ZX10 full Acro exhaust, K&N filter and power commander with 175hp at rear wheel, Oh Yeah! 05 KTM Super Duke, kills all the Japanese super bikes through the twisties. Last crash was a hit and run, Internal bleeding in all organs except spleen, left lung and heart. Revived at scene, 9 hour operation and woke up with a titanium shin and all kinds of tubes coming out of me. 6 months later I have been on a walking stick for a week and feel ready to go back to work. I want to keep the bike as it came out only needing 3k to fix but I don't want my wife to stress and a drifter is a much better thing to have in the shed anyway. The best thing about bike culture is, it doesn't matter who you are, you can pull up to any group of riders and have a chat, much the same as landing at a RA friendly strip. PS, unless asked, this is the last post I will mention about my bike stack. sorry.
  6. Yeah and who wants a shidy looking prop anyway?
  7. From the other side of the fence. If the smokey residue doesn't have any slow chemical reaction with the prop and break it down over time, I'd leave it as an experiment to see if the costant thin coating possibly protects the prop from little particles that cause minor marks and scratches. It would be cool knowing it gave you even 5% longer prop life.
  8. What is the saying wives use that girlfriends don't? "Get off me! It's not your birthday!"
  9. Flying a drifter on a cold winter morning with not a trace of wind, looking out over the mountains............. Yeah, I'll take that any day.
  10. my wife's dog has been hiding under the bed. But I did find out what the sorce of the quakes was, there was a tryout for the new biggest looser show and they were all performing star jumps.
  11. A bloke I know replaced the side fabric with metal and it works a treat, stops the side getting damaged by your hands on the in and out.
  12. There is a big difference between a VW beetle and a formula vee open wheeler. Yet they both share the same engine.
  13. Its amazing to think that nemesis 1 gets 273 knots on the straight and level on 100hp. Race pace is lower.
  14. I though the formula vee engines were unmodified. Or is that only a capacity restriction?
  15. Hey Brent, sorry, my bad. That was more of an if than for real. The figures I stated were an average from a few formula Vee sites. They claim with single seat Sonerai and race levels of fuel a 65-70hp vw engine. 130knots can be reached. Is that a bit optimistic?
  16. If I fly at 130 knots with 65hp, what speed at best guess would I travel at with 120hp?
  17. There is a chap in South Australia who is building an all metal fuselarge Sonerai with a Jabiru 3300 engine. Looks briliant only half finished. this particular aircraft has a VNE of 173 knots, I have heard of these Aircraft cruising just under VNE with a Jab 2200, so with this engine it will be well over VNE, what strengthening modifications would be need to alow the aircraft to safely atain a VNE of 250knots?
  18. If I owned a plane like that, I'd either stick to those limits or go GA.
  19. The reason I fly at the Oaks instead of Bankstown which is only down the road is due to attitude, The guys at The Oaks are friendly and professional and they want to fly RA, I got stuffed around so much at Bankstown, so I drove to The Oaks, The first person I spoke too had been stuffed around in Bankstown too and told me how much better The Oaks was and I haven't looked back. Its fine if you want to get your hours up to go comercial but if you run a business you have a duty of care to the customers and should provide the service you advertise. Has anyone anyone else in the Sydney area had the same problem? I garantee its worth the hour drive out to The Oaks, plus you dont have to wory about crap that goes on in larger airports.
  20. Speaking of hot, your RV-6 looks great, did you build it yourself? what motor are you running?
  21. Hey Tony. One mistakes I will point out, your should have used a better pick up line instead of "take your dress off" and then maybe you would have got the models phone number and made a different type of landing. hehe!
  22. Its amazing what a good woman can do to your life. That bad crash I told you about was the first time I'd been in an accident since being married and I never had fear till then. as my heart stopped and I blacked out, all I could think about was not seeing my wife again. Your right, even if you cant be responsible for yourself, atleast be responsible for the one you share you life with.
  23. My dad never layed down too many rules for me growing up, his main rule was "Have fun but not at the cost of others" but he did have a strange rule when me or any of my mates rode our motor bikes and that was "No filming!", as he knew we were many times safer without a camera. Thinking back, he was so right. As soon as you put a camera in front of someone, they will be more likely to take risks. With flying, the home viewer has no true appreciation for 3 G's let alone the 10+ G's top aerobatisists (my new word) put themselves through so the envelope must be pushed to keep the film people paying the bills. Its only going to get more dangerous as more people take up an interest in "Red Bull Flying". Look what crusty demons did to motor cross, 10 years ago, a heal clicker was the be all and end all, now kids are trying superman back flips. So poor self control could be classed as a bad condition to be flying in.
  24. I know, hot The people on the website love to talk crap, but the plane is cool. single seaters may not be popular, but get 10 of your mates together with one each and a trip down the coast would be a blast.
