Maybe the ASIC mob are doing quick turn arounds because a lot of pilots have woken up to the fact that the ASIC is a rip off and they are not renewing.

Back in my Air force days, gunnies overhauled ejection seats. They come under the umbrella of avionics technicians these days I think. Over the years the discussion has come up in regards to ex military aircraft on the civilian register and their ejection seats being disabled. This has been done because of CASA's stupid regulations. People have died who may have been alive today if the ejection seats were armed.
Here is an idea CASA, potential lives could be saved if RAAF qualified airman could be allowed to overhaul ejection seats on civilian registered jets as long as they have the right equipment and did it on their own time. Ya never know, a life maybe saved.

With all the asic and other crap going on, I would be very surprised if there was not more phantoms around the place. They put one in on its belly in the mid-70's in a Baron at Karratha, I think it was. Got all excited because they heard the "phantom" was on the ground there and they thought they had him.The phantom was an unlicensed pilot flying an unregistered PA28 who live somewhere in that Gascoyne-Ashburton area who everyone knew but no one was saying. They roared in overhead, saw the miscreant parked near the terminal, whipped it around and put it down.
He allegedly waved as he taxied past...

A similar thing has happened to me. I didnt realise until Teck asked my why I gave him a funny for a post. It was purely finger trouble.

Agree, there is no point IMO pulling the power at 50 feet with a lot of runway available. It has to be pulled on up wind and at a point where making it back to the runway is simply not an option.Maybe we are training for EFATOs the wrong way. Currently we have the power cut and get to land straight ahead with an instructor and the only training we do on a turn back is off our own bat. I know, even with power available, doing a simulated EFATO with a turn back still has the risk of a stall/spin but maybe if it was practiced with an instructor in our initial training we would all be a lot more aware of why we don't/shouldn't attempt it. Not too different to doing stalls to show exactly why it isn't a good thing.Maybe in initial training may be too early? But it seems to me if things like this aren't included in our initial training then the majority of pilots don't get around to doing them.- 2

So basically, pilots can practise EFATO until the cows come home knowing subconsciously full well that when practising, they have the engine at idle and can use it . When it actually happens for real, its a lottery on how the pilot is going to react regardless of experience.

Hi all,
My decision isn't because of the passing of Ross, it is more to do with us having more than our fair share of accidents over the last couple of years and sometimes we as individuals need to ask ourselves when is it time to walk away.
I think I will take a break for a few months then I will reassess how I feel about it all.

In your opinion, which is fair enough.Motorcycle riding is more dangerous than flying, I reckon Ross would be cursing you all right about now for saying things about giving up flying. -
When I was an Airframe fitter / aircraft technician on the General Dynamics F111 for eight and a half years I had the imperial system down pat.
Then I worked on the Tornado which was metric.
I have pretty much forgotten most of the imperial sizes. By that I mean. I could look at a ring spanner and tell what size it was without reading it. I can't do that now.

I have been thinking the same Brad. I have been giving it some real thought and I think that it is time for me to hang up the headset for good.RIP Ross old mate, we had many a good chat, i'll miss you and your wisdom. You where always available when i wanted advice or a chat, even if I did spew in your plane going to Monto.I'm getting to the point of wondering if this is worth it.... we've lost so many good people in the last few years, which has contributed to my no longer flying. What a senseless waste of human life.
Over the last couple of years I have only been averaging an hour per month which is just barely remaining current.
What scares me is that we have lost some very experienced pilots with thousands of hours and who fly multiple times per week. What chances have I got with my currency? Not much I reckon.
Besides motorcycle riding takes up a lot of my time and I have been doing that for 35 years.

It was great to meet you again Graham.Top Flyin, certainly one of the best we have been to, just landed back at at Caboolture , 11.30.Very well run and organised, at last count there were 27 aircraft attended with more coming in when we left.A lot of people were arriving by car which expanded the numbers considerably.
There was a large range of aircraft types and a lot of catching up for everyone, it was great to meet up especially with old hang glider mates.
Again very well done and thank you to all concerned, you have set a great benchmark for your next Flyin.
Will see you there next time.
As usual the photos say it all.

I am leaving home now. I will be in a White Nissan Patrol ute.

For the guys riding, driving. You take the Biddaddaba road which runs off the Mundooland Canungra Connection road. Then on top a crest, there is a turn off call The four mile lane, travel along that to lot 15. Then follow the dirt road to the hangars.
I nearly got cleaned up at the four mile lane intersection a few years ago on my bike. Becareful.

I will be driving out to say good day.I have been there a few times before.Hello fellow aviators!Yes many of the comments are true the Canungra International Airport was an elusive and exclusive airfield hence our invitation! The reference to the CTAF/Unicom is true unfortunately we inherited 123.45 MHz as the local chat freq and in time we intend to change this. Please be patient with us as this is our first flyin and is totally not for profit with all proceeds going to the Beyond Blue Charity. All organised by Flightscope's instructors, ie two people to do everything! Our website had the Facebook link which included the attached diagrams!
Some of the pilots have expressed concerns about flying to the CIA, remember it is an ALA and If you think it is beyond you to safely operate from our airfield I have attached detailed road maps! Hope this helps..

If anybody is refused the right for membership then CASA would have to issue a them a certificate as the RAA currently has an monopoly in regards to ultralight flying. They are wanting to increase that right to allowed exclusion without reason.hur hur hur good one.

With that many hours, you may as well sit the CPL test.

SIDS have made Cessna 150's an expensive aircraft to own.Hi all.I am new to RA-AUS, I have been looking for a plane to meet all my requirements, I should mention I weigh 120kg (ps have been trying to loose weight for over 10 years, don't see this as a realistic option) and ideally would like to fly with an average sized passenger.I noticed these posts were from back in 2008. Do we know if the weight restrictions are still on the cards for change or has this idea been kiboshed?
Are there any two seat 150's currently registered?
Cheers
