Limited Controlled Airspace Access

Recommended Posts

I was wondering whether an instrument actually exists yet, or whether they are saying they will allow schools to apply individually to have specific instruments written (presumably with associated costs).

There are currently schools flying in Class D CTA and the official letter from RAAus says they are currently flying on an instrument of exemption.

So one has to assume an “old” instrument exists. The wording of the letter suggests a new one has been released.

But it I never believe anything like this with aviation until I see the actual law or instrument because so many people get things mixed up and promulgate furphies.

See dsam message above, you need a medicalDoesn't say you need any CTA training? which is odd.

Also says "airspace related to the FTS" so not all CTA at all

Yes, it appears that the only difference is the non requirement of a PPL/RPL, along with the other very strict conditions/limitations. I wasn't aware that RAAus students training in CTA ,under the direct supervision of a qualified instructor, were required to have a higher medical than other RAAus pilots ..... Bob

There wasn't "an" old instrument, there were many - they seem to have been issued individually to flying schools. Many of them replaced the whole CAO 95.55 under which RAA operates with a new version. It would make it challenging for a student to learn the rules...

That's not all of them. CASA literally write a set of rules then modify them with dozens of alternate sets of rules that apply to specific operations.

Bizarre madness!

Sham on you - this is pure heresy - how can you suggest that our beloved CASA (arm of THE  GOVERNMENT) is anything but a benign, logical organism, that efficiently goes about its (our) business and has nothing but our best interest at heart --  ha! ha! ha! ha! weep! weep!
