We've cracked the 1 million

Recommended Posts

Finally, the Recreational Flying web site has cracked the 1 millionth ranked web site in the world and still climbing. You may say 1 million isn't that hot however when you consider how many millions of web sites there are in the world being ranked at 955,000 is a great achievement.

As you get ranked higher and higher it gets harder and harder. They only start ranking properly when you hit the 15 millionth web site and going from 15 millionth to 14 millionth is a lot easier then going from 14 millionth to 13 millionth and so on.

One penalty of this has been the drop in ranking in Australia...from 28,000 to 35,000 so I am working to bring that back up with a vengeance...aiming for 10,000th...don't forget Google.com.au is first place in Australia.

The higher the ranking the greater chance of getting more users on the site to help each other out through even more real life experiences.

Whilst we are the highest ranked the closest 2nd place is a GA site at 1.25 millionth and 3rd place is a recreational site (non forum) ranked way way down at 3.5 millionth. So, Recreational Flying IS without any doubt, and is proven to be, the most popular and largest Recreational Aviation including GA web site in Australia and New Zealand :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Now for the 750,000th web site in the world target :csm:

Giving the slight drop in the Australian ranking some thought I will be bringing forward some parts of the 2nd year of the 5y Strategic Plan that I created for the site. We are well ahead in the plan for the first year, about 3 months ahead of schedule, and with the theme of the 2nd year being "Get Recreational Flying Out There" I will bring some no financial cost items forward - the cost is purely in effort. This I hope will bring the site up to a very high ranking in Australia and saturate the search engines with the Recreational Flying name.

What is left to do in this financial year is to populate all areas and ascertain a future software direction (planned for May). The future software has already been ascertained which is not continuing with vBulletin but is pointing to Xenforo (see it at http://www.recreationalflying.com/) but that is not for quite some time yet.

In a few weeks the site menu will change that will put emphasise on global forums, media etc but bring all the Australian etc specific areas together. It is simply doing some house work in rearranging the sections of the site to group all the Australian etc specific areas together much better. It will look like this but with the old Australian colour scheme:

Clicking each country tab in the menu will bring up that Countries home page with content specifically just for that country. Each country will use its own domain so if you go directly to http://www.recreationalflying.com.au in your browser it will bring up the Australian home page with Australian news, Australian Aircraft Notices, Australian places to visit, Australian Airfields, Australian Events, Australian Clubs and Schools etc etc.

We will also be using all our other Australian domains as pointer sites to Recreational Flying... like .net.au, recreationalaviation.com.au, .net.au etc.

These will help bring the Recreational Flying name screaming up the web site rankings "Getting Out There".

The costly items of Year 2 depends on what the RAAus do in terms of flyins...It is hoped that Recreational Flying will start to have our own "Northern" and "South Western" flyins..."getting Out There"

So there's an update on where this site is going...we still uphold our 3 main objectives of Increased Flying Safety, Better Maintenance and Improved Pilot Skills and the more we get out there the more ALL site users are helped in the 3 objectives by each other's experiences

Hooray...it is working...here is the latest stats...we are down to 936,000 and back to 28,000th in Australia and still climbing...we WILL hit under the 10,000th Australian website with some minor domain admin changes that are being developed. I will soon start addressing the percentage of bounces once more content is added to the site and the sections populated...should see that % come down but at least they are seeing the site

The higher the site ranking the more users, the bigger the community, the more exchange of helpful information.

Update on the site's ranking...we are still climbing and outperforming all other aviation sites in the Southern Hemisphere. In Australia we are now ranked at around the 20,000 web site with the most number of visitors...with the new dedicated Australian section that uses purely our .com.au name I hope to get the site within the top 5 to 10,000 web sites in Australia...this will be incredible given the million plus web sites that are in Australia.

We are still climbing on the international front however when you are in the top million it is extremely hard to climb..it is easy to climb 1,000 when at say 10 million but gets harder and harder as you get higher.

I will now be working hard on firstly cleaning up the forums as many of the sections are now moved to the Australian section but mostly we need to start populating the sections with content to reduce the bounces.

IT'S WORKING...all the effort is paying off dramatically in the site's world wide ranking. I have just checked the figures and we are screaming up the charts and all other sites are falling down and down.

Now with the dedicated Australian site opened we should see our Australian rank also start climbing more then it already is and hitting that 5,000 mark in Australia is a real possibility.

Google has already picked up the dominance of the dedicated Australian section using .com.au. Soon with .co.nz (NZ), .co.uk (UK), .ca (Canada), .us (USA) and .co.za (Sth Africa) coming on line we should improve even further.

The rank as of today for .net is:

That 750,000th target out of the billion+ web sites in the world is in sight and achievable. The more exposure, the more traffic, the more contributors, the more experiences we all get to hear...if you have a website or blog etc you can also help by putting a link on it to this site...much gratitude if you can, here are some ready made links to copy and paste:

and you can add a link to your site or blog etc by entering it in the links section of this site accessed from the main menu above
