Hi Jay,

 

Welcome to the site! How about telling us a bit about yourself - where do you fly from, how long have you been flying etc etc. I see you fly a Petrel Amphibian - looks like an interesting aircraft - what area of water do you fly that from?

 

Hope to hear some more details from you!

Hi All.

 

What a great place, I'm glad I signed up.

 

The Super Petrel is mine, along with my brother and father, we purchased the aircraft from a deceased estate at "The Oaks". I'm a new pilot with only 70 hours but just the most amazing part of my life with exceptions of my little daughter.

 

My father owns a Cessna Cardinal RG but also loves our new machine, its simply brilliant off land but in the water thats where it truly shines.

 

Full fuel, two 85 kg occupants and on the step at half throttle and by the time full throttle is reached you are ready to rotate.

 

We cruise between 85-90 knots and burn 15 lts.

 

When I was doing my training I remember leaving for Coffs Harbour (water endorsement) and many people told me how hard water can be, but I tell you its far easier on water than the tar....... very very easy, and lots of fun.

 

We land on the water at Lake Illawarra, Gosford, North Shore or head up to Wisemans ferry.... although lake hoping down the coast is fantastic.

Fantastic...! We are fortunate enough to have Ross Vining ( Editor of SPAA ) http://www.seaplanes.org.au/ over here with his Sea Ray and Ross is a great exponent of the world on water. We have great waterways South of Adelaide SA, and another mate has a Sea Ray kit on the way. I am looking forward to trying it on water because we have so much potential for Amphibians here in SA. Looking forward to more of your adventures Jay.

Welcome Jay. The Super Petrel would be a good machine in my part of the world - the west coast of Canada. I have a friend in Europe who has a Super Petrel and loves it. His is powered by a Yamaha 120 hp engine from a snowmobile. And the Super Petrel (called SeaStar locally) is built about 150 km away in Squamish BC. I have been to the factory and sat in one. Very nice.

I look on you Tube for Super Petrel videos and the most brilliant are the ones flown around Canada..... what a wonderful place.

Welcome to our little forum Jay. Very nice little aeroplane mate. I agree that an amphibious craft has to be the ultimate. If you ever drop into Gosford or the Central Coast Lakes and want some one to pick you up let me know, if I am home I will jump at the opportunity to meet you.David

I fly off Brisbane water often, my father's partner lives off the water on Brisbane Waters so we are lucky.

 

Next time I'm there I will let you know, you may want to come for a flight.

Hi Jay. Canada can be a great place to fly. Especially outside of the major centers like Vancouver. Lots of open space, can fly to 12,500 feet, lots of lakes, but not so much airstrips (certainly not like the US). Can also be a bit scary on wheels in my part of the country when traveling east because 4 sets of mountains between BC and Alberta. High, rugged, beautiful, but intimidating at times. Of course, all Aussie pilots are more than welcome to come & visit. And enjoy. Super Petrels would fit in nicely.
