The South Queensland community will see the latest addition to the Air Force fleet on November 22, when its recently-delivered sixth C-17A Globemaster transport conducts a flypast of Ipswich, Brisbane and Gold Coast.

If aircraft availability permits, additional C-17As from RAAF Base Amberley will join the new aircraft in its flypast, at 1600-metre intervals. This event is subject to operational availability and weather.

The aircraft will depart RAAF Base Amberley at approximately 8.15am and fly towards Brisbane and Gold Coast, before returning to RAAF Base Amberley by 8.55am.

Flypast Timings, Speed and Altitude:

8.15am RAAF Base Amberley – Take Off.

8.19am Brisbane (Southbank) - 300 metres above Ground Level at 460km/h

8.31am Gold Coast - 300 metres Above Ground Level at 460km/h

8.55am RAAF Base Amberley - 150 metres feet Above Ground Level at 550km/h. Aircraft will conduct an ‘initial and pitch’ over RAAF Base Amberley before landing.

Wing Commander Paul Long, Commanding Officer of Amberley’s No. 36 Squadron, said the C-17A had made a proud contribution to Defence since the first aircraft arrived in service in December 2006.

"This flypast is a chance for South Queensland residents to see an aircraft which has delivered tremendous service to Australia," Wing Commander Long said.

"Our C-17As have supported operations in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan, and last year were instrumental in providing support for disaster relief tasking in Queensland, Japan and New Zealand."
