  1. "X-IT Carbon Remover & Cleaner" works well for me.
  2. Very sad news indeed. I met Ross some years back when I flew into Whitsunday Airport and have valued his friendship and guidance ever since. Sharing a beer with him at Old Station was something to look forward to. He had a very welcoming personality and a keen sense of humour. RIP Ross.
  3. I too am a member of Southport Flying Club (http://southportflyingclub.com.au) and echo the comments made by David above. I would also personally welcome anyone who wanted to visit, have a look around, and better understand the restrictions we operate under, which are in fact very simple for anyone wanting to fly in. Steve Sartor.
  4. Yes, it's not the VietnamAir video from a different angle but apparently the routine is the same, at least the take-off.
  5. I thought the video at start of this thread was mostly camera trickery until a colleague showed me this one which provides for a more convincing viewing angle.
  6. Yes, they have been advertised for sale. Owners have since decided to ship them back home.
  7. Posting for awareness and if anyone is interested in providing sponsorship or other support to these 2 guys from Italy. 2 aircraft. A Tecnam Eaglet and a Texan, so local dealers may want to engage with them. http://www.ridingtheskies.com/index.php/en/ "Take-off is scheduled for October 2013 from the airfield of Cassola (Vicenza, Italy) on board two small ULM aeroplanes. Our flight will last 110 hours and include landing and taking off from 40 different airports. We will travel 22,000 km altogether and fly over 14 states. After crossing the Mediterranean Sea, the North African deserts, the forests of India, and enjoying an unforgettable birds-eye view of the coasts and islands of Malaysia and Indonesia, we will glide over the deserts of Australia and finally reach our destination - Sydney, Australia - on a journey lasting 22 days." I have been in contact to offer planning and ground support for their Australia legs. Have suggested some changes e.g. YBAF instead of YBBN and YSBK instead of YSSY and offer to host them when in South East Qld. They are wanting to sell these aircraft in Australia after the flight instead of shipping back home. I will get further info from them and post ads on various web sites on their behalf. If you recall a very similar trip recently by Dave Sykes from UK in a trike, they are in contact with Dave for planning and lessons learned. Steve.
  8. Sad news indeed. While I did not know Lance for long, I very much enjoyed chatting with him at recent years Dunwich breakfasts. Lots of history and great stories with Lance. RIP.
  9. http://www.onawingandachair.org.au/ Saw Dave on the news today, just starting his round Australia trip, to become the first person with quadriplegia to fly solo around Australia. Very impressive fella and I look forward to following his journey.
  10. The Lightwing looks great Doug. Last time I saw it was in October when I was at Innisfail and popped over to have chat with Carlo. Looks much better now :) That's his hangar in the background, right? Steve.

If aircraft availability permits, additional C-17As from RAAF Base Amberley will join the new aircraft in its flypast, at 1600-metre intervals. This event is subject to operational availability and weather. The aircraft will depart RAAF Base Amberley at approximately 8.15am and fly towards Brisbane and Gold Coast, before returning to RAAF Base Amberley by 8.55am. Aircraft routes (click to view) Map 1 – Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast Map 2 – Brisbane and Ipswich Map 3 – Brisbane CBD Map 4 – Gold Coast Imagery of the C-17A is available from here. Wing Commander Paul Long, Commanding Officer of Amberley’s No. 36 Squadron, said the C-17A had made a proud contribution to Defence since the first aircraft arrived in service in December 2006. "This flypast is a chance for South Queensland residents to see an aircraft which has delivered tremendous service to Australia," Wing Commander Long said. "Our C-17As have supported operations in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan, and last year were instrumental in providing support for disaster relief tasking in Queensland, Japan and New Zealand."
  13. Yeah, I could (should) have been higher as there was lots of sink, but the video does make it appear flatter than it was.
  14. YSHR runway 14 approach and landing, for your entertainment pleasure - Pre-empting some questions: 1) yes, it was that turbulent, not me playing around 2) the video stop/start is problem with speed of the SD card being used 3) left of centreline final approach is recommended approach by YSHR Steve.
  15. This is a good reference with templates - http://www.recreationalflying.com/tutorials/comms/procedure.html
  16. Noticed this event on aeroclub.com.au. I've not called the contact number yet, and was wondering if anyone here has more info.
  17. Doug, BTW I was the guy setup camp next door to you. Cya next time ;)
  18. Maj, forgot to ask while I was there. What's with the J230 brochure you had displayed in your Lightwing heliview panel?
  19. yep, http://www.flightradar24.com/ is showing the Dornier - VH-PPQ
  20. This from a UK based Rotax service centre...http://www.conairsports.co.uk/4-stroke fuel system.html "Can I use Avgas? Yes. But the lead in Avgas causes maintenance issues such as fouled piston rings, deposits on spark plugs, deposits in the combustion chamber and exhaust port and can sometimes cause sticking valves. The lead can also accumulate in the slipper clutch and sprag clutch, which can prevent them from functioning correctly, as well as gumming up the wastegate on 914 series engines. Please note the following for Avgas use: - Change the oil every 25 hours - use a semi synthetic oil" And this article has some indicative photos on page 5 Looking after your Rotax 912 series engine at http://www.conairsports.co.uk/downloads/912 maintenance article - inc carb bal.pdf BTW, is a great general reference used in conjunction with Rotax publications.
  21. I and a number of other 912 drivers I know, use "Decalin Runup Fuel Additve" when no choice but to fill up with Avgas. Is available from at least one AU based on-line shop. I can't recall if Decalin has received blessing from Rotax .
  22. I'm hoping to be there. Not sure which days yet, possibly just a day trip though.
  23. In the spirit of credit where credit is due, I was flying from Hervey Bay recently. On departure to the South East, after CTAF departure call, I made regular broadcast call on centre freq. A Qantas Link RPT quickly responded as being X miles to the South, inbound on descent from 10,000. A few minutes later, as I was listening on both Centre and CTAF, I heard the RPT make inbound call on CTAF, and informed me (yes, he remembered my call sign exactly) that he had me on TCAS and should be visual at my 1 o'clock. I quickly spotted him and reported visual and confirmed clear on CTAF. So at least this RPT flight crew were communicative, clear and helpful. Very similar thing happened also while inbound to Gladstone, again with Qantas Link RPT.
