At 13,000 ft I'm wondering if there's a mandated amount of time you are allowed to fly in a regular aircraft, without oxygen. Maybe some hypoxia setting in? I would imagine you'd normally train to look for skiers etc in the path of your anticipated take off path. And that this guy just didn't see anything until the very last second.

Or possibly he saw them, but the “I’ve got to get this rented plane back, so I can’t risk getting stuck by stopping” thought process took over. Another form of get-there-itis.

The Plane was close to it's service ceiling and relied on the downslope to help it get back in the air It's a rehearsed procedure for that location. Sort of OK IF there's no climbers there at  the same time. Nev
