For those of you who have bought a transponder with ADSB out (for the sake of argument, let's say uAvionix tailBeaconX) AND an ADSB IN-capable device (say, a SkyEcho, so you can see other aircraft), were you able to claim both devices from CASA as part of the one installation, or do they classify that as being two devices and not cover one of them? Note that in my example, I've specified the SkyEcho and not a pure IN device like the Ping on the basis that it is OUT-capable even though in this instance it would be turned off.

Dont know the 😈to the rebate question BUT

Why would you have the SK2 OUT capability turned off???

As I understand it, you can’t have the SK2 and the transponder both transmitting ADSB at the same time. One of them has to be disabled, and if your transponder can send SIL>1 and with higher power, then it doesn’t seem to make sense to use the SK2’s output.

I'm a little unsure about this ADSB IN and OUT. I'd like to replace my old Bendix transponder with an approved ADSB unit. The other thing I want is Autopilot and I think a trim tab unit is the way to go,

I see the iLevel AP autopilot includes ADBS-IN but what about OUT? If it satisfies my ADSB requirement as well as Autopilot then surely that's the simplest and cheapest way to go?

It seems that units that handle both IN and OUT are a rare breed (except possibly when you get to the really high end of the spectrum - a place I don’t inhabit!), so yes, if you want both autopilot and ADSB IN, then the iLevel might be a good choice, but it doesn’t replace your transponder. You still have to get a separate OUT unit. Given that you already have a transponder, you perhaps should just go with a Sky Echo for your ADSB? Alternatively, if you really want to upgrade your transponder, then getting an ADSB OUT equipped one will halve its price courtesy of the rebate. You still have to get an IN device though, which doesn’t attract the rebate (they don’t care if you can’t see others, they just want to make sure that others can see you).

As an aside, doesn’t the iLevel autopilot rely on adding extra trim tabs on the wings? Would that cause problems with your 24 reg? I haven’t looked at the iLevel lately, so perhaps it has changed.

Yes it has to have trim tabs added to the wings but I’d consider that less of a modification than installing servos to all controls. I could ask my compliance engineer but that’s just stirring up the hornets nest. Who police’s these things?

A day late and a dollar short, but the rebate has nothing to do with CASA. Not one thing.

I have no idea of the actual rebate wording, but to my mind if you buy a transponders with ADSB out ability, you are getting a lot more than just an ADSB out device and of course it will cost much more.

This may be a factor in whether or not it would be rebated quite apart from the 2 device factor you mention

Fair enough. I’ve always read about it on the CASA website, but yes, it is some other government department that’s running the show.

The rebate conditions are very simple; If the unit being claimed upon possesses an ADSB-OUT feature and is SIL-1/2/3 capable it is valid for the rebate. If the unit being claimed upon possesses an ADSB-IN feature it is valid for the rebate.

ADSB-IN and ADSB-OUT are treated as two seperate standalone criteria. They can be applied for individually or together at the same time. New or Used equipment makes no difference so long as an ATO valid purchase Tax receipt can be presented.

Think of things as a complete unit solution of three seperate components; any of the following will qualify...

ADSB Rx/Display, or,

ADSB Tx/Display, or,

ADSB Rx/Tx/Display

Garmin GNX375

Garmin GTX375/G1000 or G5

Uavionix AV30C/TailbeaconX/AV-Link/Ping-RX

Lynx L-3

If the unit being claimed on for the rebate has additional useful features such as GPS Navigation, NAV/COM, Autopilot, Expresso Maker, then you will get a big bonus!

The Garmin G5 is a mini EFIS with no ADSB or ability to control an ADBS-B transponder so no rebate for a G5.

If you have an ADSB-IN peripheral that requires a Standalone Display Component, i.e "active adsb traffic display" via wifi or cable connectivity then it qualifies along with the wifi or cable interface components. ADSB-Out can be a totally seperate unit solution. If one purchased the LYNX L3 then you can only claim on the single unit solution for the ADSB-In ADSB-Out rebate because the Lynx has its own traffic display screen. If one installed Dynon SV1100 with XPNDR261 and ADSB472 the whole system is eligible for rebate

I do not believe the G5 has any screen that displays ADSB traffic.
