Am I correct.

I have a kit I'm building.

I get an rego number online.

I spend $8000 on a transponder.

Gtx45r and antenna.

Send the receipt into the government. Get half the cost back.

So is it this simple. Can I buy the parts overseas? What timeframe does it take to be reimbursed. Any information or advice from experience would be great.

According to the application your aircraft must be "shown in an approved registration database."

VH, RAAus, ASRA or whatever they're called this week, etc. REGISTERED, not Reserved.

You must supply an Australian tax invoice with your name on it. So no, you can't buy overseas.

Supply the "installer declaration" (not nesse-celery a LAME) VH kit builders supply proof that they were the aircraft manufacturer, equipment installer and maintainer.

I know a few who got it - quickly.

Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) Rebate Program – Round 2 | business.gov.au

Closes 31 May 2027.

And once again, yet again, the rebate has nothing to do with CASA.

Ok. So it has to be registered and in use , not just building and reserved. It sounded to easy.  All good it can wait then and I can pre wire etc.

Thanks Lyndon

Registered and in use are two totally different things, nowhere does it mention anything about "in use". Registered it says.

As there is nearly two years to go, there would seem to be no rush today. Other than the price of the gear heading north towards Santa.

I believe the Garmin GTX45R needs a GPS position source as well.

Like either a GPS20A or a Garmin IFR Navigator.

It cannot use the GPS position from a G3X Touch efis.

I believe you can get with and without a wass GPS. It then talks with the G3x.

I think.

My biggest question is at what stage of the build can you get it registered. Would be be nice to have it in place before the plane is buttoned up

You probably want to clarify this.

I have seen retail ads which say the GTX45R comes with an internal GPS but the information on Garmins website says it has no GPS.

While it displays on the G3X Touch no transponder will use the internal GPS in the G3X Touch.

It is a remote transponder which is normally mounted in a rack behind the panel so it needs to be mounted/cabled before the panel is permanently attached.

I’m in the same position as you, Lyndon, so I asked Jared at RAAus.  Here’s his reply.

I am aware of other aircraft owners using their number allocation certificate to make a claim. Please send through Tech form 011 and you will be issued with a reservation certificate, and we can also issue a 'registration' certificate that states it is a 'number allocation' which may assist a claim.

I’m pretty sure that others on this site have already done this too, but I’ll leave them to leap in and comment. If the worst comes to the worst, I can delay the actual claim until closer to June ‘27 (the cutoff date). It just means that the bank balance suffers for a while, but the purchase has to go ahead now while I’m doing all the wiring.

Ok. The aircraft has to be registered. Eg ready for flight. Finished, surveyed and rego. Then you apply if the rebate is still in the system.

So pretty easy. Pre wire, pre mount, pre antenna with GTX 45R template and it's a two minute slip in behind the seat and program it into the G3X. Then apply for half the money back.

Sounds easy doesn't it 🤔
