  1. utilising existing airfields Ok, so canberra airport is out as GA/RAAus training and there is a group trying to establish a 2nd field in the ACT. Well good luck to them. In my numerous positions in various clubs and organisations one thing became abundantly clear, people would rather participate in the designated activities than put in the "hard yards". I can't blame them, after all the slowness of bureaucracy becomes a trial for almost anyone . Then there is the cost of such a venture ,even if some of our tax $$$ can be re grasped , it still has to be megga bucks. With those thoughts in mind I wonder why existing airfields such as Goulburn, Cooma Snowy mts or Cooma polo flat have not been considered. I am sure that a 1 hour drive from CBR is not to much of a trial for their intrepid flyers and those fields are all ready to go [ 1 hr is my travel time to a field and the social activity] . Any how, even the idea of cheaper parking away from CBR could have some benefit. I'd rather be in the air , even if it means a bit of a drive, than be awaiting a new field. The support of what existing fields we have seems like a priority.
  2. Well it appears that living near the ski fields has some advantages after all. MY! suit came from one of the local op shops. A very untrendy older style , certanly NOT to be scene on the slopes but it keeps me warm and only $20 ..
  3. thanks for advice shall try the gain and check the earth . pete
  4. Hi all, I have a microair 760 in our Fox Bat and find that when talking with the passanger it is very hissy. The vox must also be adjusted to cut out noise on take off and then reset to 22 for rest of flight. It has been suggested to install a pm501 intercom to overcome the pilot/ copilot conversation noise (hiss/ engine noise). Does an intercom system realy overcome these problems ? A recent comment went along the line that the radio is a weak link in the system , often with problems. any help appreciated ... Pete
  5. I learnt to fly in an allegro at polo flat . The cfi used it for about 700 hrs and then got a jab for training. I found it lacked the necessary headroom for my 6ft 2 and had to sloutch when flying. The L2 had to do a few things to increase the feel of the controls (read bungees). I did like it but as it was my first aircraft I cannot realy comment to much. It was considered great when first put on line but later was felt a little twitchy. Perhaps that is why the jab replaced it . A few hrs of flying one will give you an idea, good luck with your decision,
  6. My interpretation of what was said goes like this. yes Dave did say something along the lines of not including the financial report in the mag, however his reasoning was that the report was to large. A suggestion for a brief report in the raaus mag recieved a yes from the board. We were also informed that if we required a full report then all we had to do was contact the office.
  7. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and wise advice. A wind turbine shall be my next project , after a new set of blades go on the foxbat. cheers , Pete
  8. Hi all who read this . . My warp drive prop met with the ground ( yep pilot error) and needs repairing. Can this be done , and if so where? thanks

  10. Ah yes, an introductory video, that is what we viewed. Top marks to those that went to all that effort in the production. Hey it certainly generated a fair amount of comment. Perhaps the next one they do could include those maneouvers that we may never have the capability or chance of doing . Something like carrier landings, ag flying , the roulettes or a war games training exercise in an f111. That would realy get us wondering about our skill levels. Forums such as this are a great info resource , it makes me realise you just keep on learning and have to be flexiable enough to change your ideas. Enough idle banter from me for now. I want to know what the weather will be like @ 0530 so I can get in the air. See you in the sky.
  11. Went to lunch at press club in Cbr on thursday, John McCormack spoke . My interpritation of the speach was that he wished to distance himself from to much responsibility in decision making whilst still retaining an authoritarian approach to issues. His very telling comment, re glider towing with a jabiru , was that he would not wish to be in either the jab or the glider . This remark comming after a discussion about the aging GA fleet. Is this a case of, old is ok, and out with the new that is growing ? Perhaps its just me, but I feel that in life now good old commom sense has gone out the door (its easier than the window) and that job security and butt protection rules. Ask questions by all means but I wouldnot hold my breath . Pushing is likely to expose the hidden self. Aw shucks, thats just an interpretation from a pleb in the soup.
  12. Thanks ozzie that, made things a lot clearer. How about that, a one liner from me and a very helpful a couple of paragraphs from you, that was good value for a slow typer such as I
  13. Angle of attack indicator gauge. Why do we not see them on RAAus aircraft?
