  1. Bit of an update if anyone is interested or can help, talking to Garry at Bert Floods and he suggested I scrape the loctite 515 out between the case halves carefully and start the engine and if it leaks it is quite possible it is the seal, so off I went scraping the loctite out thinking its going to leak again. When I started and warmed up to 150F then shut down had a look at the water pump area around the case halves and bugger me dead NO LEAKS, what the ... I was quite surprised. I jst hope that some loctite is still between the case halves and is blocking any coolant from escaping because like Garry said to take it out (loctite 515) because if you seal the halves the coolant will build up between the two seals and will eventuall y blow the other seal thereby letting coolant enter the rotary valve oil system. Is it possible that this seal may have fixed itself some how as this leak started about the 20 hour mark from brand new and now has 30 hours, I guess I am trying to be optomistic because I don't want to go through the hassle of changing out the rotary seal etc, even though it is still under warranty.
  2. I have a rotax 582 with about 30 hours and have noticed a coolant leak starting between the crankcase halves near the water pump, I am hoping it is just the gasket as I have put some loctite 515 around the leak but not yet started it to see if it has. I got on to Wal at Rotax and he suggested the loctite 515. I hope one of the water pump seals haven't let go.
  3. Rtv silicone is a silicone that can handle high tempeeatures and is usually placed around the exhaust gaskets to stop them from leaking, it works very well. This stuff can be purchased at any auto shops.
  4. Try Myles at Ballantree Aviation, he is based in Wowan CQ.
  5. I ended up placing some Loctite 515 on either side of the gasket and now it appears to be holding.
  6. OK I have put the exhaust gaskets back on the same side they come off and went flying with no leaks and no rtv silicone, flew for about 2 hours and all is good. Thanks fellas for your input. Cheers.
  7. Can I re-use my exhaust gaskets on a rotax 582 only put them on last week now have to pull the exhaust off again. The gaskets appear to be a little puffed up when new and when in place appear to tighten up becoming flat against the flange, thats why I am wandering if I can reuse them, Cheers.
  8. Having trouble with a water pump gasket on a Rotax 582 Blue Head with only 25 hours. I did recieve a new water pump gasket and exhaust gaskets from Wal at Bert Flood Imports under warranty however the pump gasket is still leaking, Wal did say about placing Loctite 515 on the gasket which I will try and wandering if anyone else has had this dilama. This leak on the water pump started about the 20 hour mark and progressively got worse, I have been operating in the normal operating sequence like nothing out of the norm of safe operating procedures any other help would be appreciated. Cheers.
  9. It is a Austflight Drifter Manufactured in March 1992 by memory.
  10. I have a wire-brace drifter with new blue head 23 hours, new C Typer Gearbox and 3 blade bolly, however not willing to sell just yet, the wife reckons that I should keep it for a little while especially after getting this new gear. I will advertise hear when I sell.
  11. I'm lookin at selling my drifter to buy a Jab 170 I have been interseted in Jabiru for ages.
  12. Also with the A6 always had squelch on 2 with no probs now on 1 if that presents any probs I don't now.
  13. I recently changed my antenna from pod mounted to king post mounted because I wanted to use a/c power to the vhf and gps, Icom A6 radio and Garmin 196 GPS. When I had the pod mounted antenna reception was excellent like perhaps 200 nautical, now with king post aerial flat out getting 30 I guess, the antenna is micro avionics where you have to refurb the bnc end so you get the right coax length, could this be the problem to limited range. Also when I transmit to Brisbane Centre for a radio check I believe they cannot hear me, interface is also micro avionics, like I said before connecting to a/c power for the gps never had a problem but want to stick with a/c power.

  18. After I finish flying the back carby starts leaking oil from the idle speed screw then lies around the top of the bowl it's not dripping but I guess its a film of oil maybe run to the bottom of the bowl but not bad, I seem to think maybe there is oil still flowing a little from the oil injection pump (maybe some left in the line still) back towards the rear caby (lowest point) and gradually seeping through the thread on the idle speed screw. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
