  1. ARFORs (including critical localities and area QNH) have had a bit (!) of a tidyup. I seem to have pretty much all the Yxxx'x now, but keen to hear about any not in my list. IB
  2. Have a look at PDFUnlock! - Unlock PDF files online for free. - it's a free online service that you throw the pdf at and it comes back unlocked. That's what I used. I'm surprised that anyone who flies his own light aircraft for fun can have concerns about whether money is being carefully spent :-)
  3. I have updated the list of placenames - it now has all the YXXX places and all the VFR waypoints from the ERSA. I guess the IFR waypoints just keep their funny names and people are expected to know if it's in caps and looks a bit odd that's what it is ..... IB
  4. Thanks. I already managed. I think (don't have an iPhone so don't know) that the app you referred to likely goes to the noaa database, so gets just "international" airfields. Also probably doesn't do ARFORs because they tend to be country-specific. Even TAFs and METARs have a bit of that - I have found that doing Kiwi and Oz ones. IB
  5. That got me looking - I didn't know about these - found a free one on-line :-)
  6. I have an OCR feature on my all-in-one. I ran a page from a printout of the airservices pdf through it and it seemed to work. So now I have to run some tens of pages through it. More boring than difficult. These little things are sent to try us ......
  7. Yeah I could put the coded ARFOR stuff there as well - I thought it made things a bit long-winded. I'll have a look. I found that big list of airfield info on the airservices site, but it's a $#%@ pdf that I can't copy and paste from. Anyone know where I would get a text version? I rang airservices and spoke to someone in publications who told me they couldn't possibly distribute the info as anything other than pdf or perhaps I'd rather buy a book?
  8. If anyone wants to pm me with the real names of abbreviations I don't know I'll be most appreciative and add them to the list. The ones I don't know are the ones left in caps. It's just become apparent to me that YASS is Yass :-) IB
  9. A very good question and I'm not sure where I find out. I located a couple of lists of Yxxx (about 1500 of them) and loaded them in, plus I did a bit of googling to find others that came out untranslated (like KIAN and MVI and CAMUS for example). Found some (like Cape Otway) but not all eg YMIM. Where should I look for the info? IB
  10. ARFORs there now. Still need some tidying up but I'm getting there
  11. I thought iPhones could just do ordinary Net ...... ?
  12. Thanks Dexter. Absolutely right. I forgot to mention that I did this as a teaching aid for pilots :-).
  13. If errors are found (I know about temp/dewpoint reported in some METARs as //.//). please PM me. Also open to suggestions about anything that could be done better. Even if I am a Kiwi .... :-) IB
  14. Australian AVMET - still a bit of a WIP. ARFORs/SIGMETs still coming.

    A new Jabby????

My J200 was a bit leaky in rain. I drilled a couple of holes in the floor and put rubber plug in them. Not a biggie ....
  16. You might like to look at Login to PEMET - use <S899> as login and <8/08/05> as password. Those are my login/pass for MetFlight (the Kiwi NAIPS equivalent) It's NZ TAFs/METARs/ARFORs but it might be a good template to start from. I did it as a "learn PHP" project. CAA (our CASA) and MetService (our BOM) sort of don't want to know about it :-) IB
  17. True. I wasn't tempted by the idea although I suspect he was right ..... :-)
  18. I put them on my J200. Can't say I observed any difference. I asked Rod Stiff - he was somewhat dismissive. Said he had tried them back when he needed to find a few knots of stall speed and VGs didn't do it. He suggested that I prove it by putting them on just one wing. In the end I peeled them off ..... IB
  19. If met info had traditionally been in plain language, would we regard a move to gobbledygook as progress? 20. This one is a bit of a perennial. Start-Ya-Bastard ether from Super Cheap has a good track record. I added an external jumpstart lug under the floor (just a bit of SC starter cable) so I can jumpstart (or recharge the battery) without removing the cowl. In the end I just put a second battery on the firewall. Seems to have 100% sorted it. IB
  21. I'm in Kiwiland. Phone no?
  22. I also just blew the gasket on #1 cylinder (there was a big sooty spot in front of the cylinder). It has been recommended to me that Loctite Blue Max (aka Gorilla Snot) should be smeared on the replacement gaskets. It is a high temp silicone. Does anybody know anything? IB
  23. Much appreciated.
  24. If the main jet (the one at the bottom) is a bit small then as the throttle is opened the needle is right out of its hole - as one opens the throttle further, the butterfly opens more, there is more air going through the carb but not enough petrol makes it through the (too small) main jet so the mixture leans out a bit. I think. Sort of makes sense to me - fits with what you have been saying. Thanks. IB
  25. Thanks Brent. I'm not sure what needle I have either. It was a long time ago. We were shipped an economy kit that was sans a couple of parts, so gave it back to the distributor and got a replacement which I didn't install for some months. The only way it makes sense (to me) to get leaner/hotter at WOT is if the main jet is the WOT bottleneck. So that 5-minute screw out of the bottom idea would be what you did to the main jet? or the (above it) needle jet? I've never pulled a Bing carb to bits on my own so I don't know much. To me it looked like I should be changing the main jet, which is at the bottom, and looks (from the drawings) about as simple a job as you describe .....
