  1. I'm a little disturbed by this statement as I know there are some greedy ones but you must realise that when someone goes solo they get slack and pick up bad habits and they need to be corrected ! 5 hours solo can not be done in a block without any instruction or checking as the student may get in trouble with bad habits ! It is a requirement of RAA ! as the student has to show competence ! A lot of miss information is being put up here ! Read the ops manual and especially the duties of CFI, student syllabus and training requirements !
  2. This may help you a little as a guide. See jabiru website. Back to the Nest Servicing - Jabiru Aircraft & Engines Australia Back to the Nest Servicing Book in your aircraft or engine with the Engine Service Department on +61 (0)7 4155 2811. 2200 Engine Top End Overhaul from $3,200 Full Overhaul from $5,200 3300 Engine Top End Overhaul from $4,800 Full Overhaul from $7,800 Engine and airframe 100 hrly from $ 850 Hourly rate $88.00 incl GST
  3. The Raa ops manual states that training takes place in a 95.55 or 95.32 type aircraft complying with legislation. The Casa legislation 95.55 and 95.32 states types for training. See previous forum discussion, some changes since then though ! interpretation of CAO 95.55 (Training Aircraft)
  4. Hi, not saying your wrong but from first hand experience, from cruise to commence a climb I would power up first adjust attitude and climb then as load increases adjust prop finer ! If I did it the other way I could over rev and slow the plane down as well prior to climb ! Just my opinion from experience ! I have used IFA and CSU and prefer IFA !
  5. Where are you located Birddog ? Is your prop a Kaspar ?
  6. Same to you ! Feel a bit left out as I thought I wasn’t crazy ! Maybe you have to be to like aviation !
  7. I did a full top overhaul at 350hours on Gen 2 3300 because of low leak down, a pass but low, it had stuck rings, I'm very glad I did it, I also converted to hollow push rods, it cost just as much to convert to hollow push rods as the top overhaul kit so I spent twice as much as I could have and spent more than required as it only needed a set of rings, I believe the engine was overheated long before I owned it, the engine now has new valves, double valve springs, hard valve washers, hollow push rods and rockers, high leak down lifters, valve relief pistons, new rubber dampened through bolts, new flywheel bolts with star washers and all the rest of the top overhaul stuff ! So there are definite improvents made and the engine now gives me some peace of mind as to its reliability, the hollow push rods was probably overkill but I still wanted it ! The engine has done twenty hours and does not burn or use oil and runs fine. Most of the new parts are a big improvement including valves and pistons, my opinion and experience, just sharing and giving my two bobs worth !
  8. I had a Sportstar and was very hot in sun ! Had shade and it helped a little ! Best canopy is a sliding one so air can come in during taxying! I agree with Nev ‘ it is that bad ‘
  9. You maybe right and I'm wrong ! I take your point but it is still not ideal to take phone calls or whatever excuse during landing to forget wheels !
  10. In 2005 or 2006 a pilot of a C337 made two seperate wheels up landings in northern WA whilst doing fish spotting as I was there and remembering reading these in crash comics in same edition same pilot in two accidents, same problem, ! Don't know if related but its not something you should do twice !
  11. The seven news shows the incident !
  12. Thanks for your reply Ian ! You obviously know a little about the Pelair crash ! What's your opinion of that ? I'm not discriminating against you for who you work for ! I feel wheels up and the second time and the circumstances are not good ! My opinion ! To have the head of Casa on board and try make it trivial is not good ! I've had a VCA and my situation showed the controller had made a mistake ! A big one and I let it go ! I also had controllers in Canberrra save my bacon ! Very impressed and apppreciative !
  13. You can fly with him I won't because the phone part is negligible ! A checklist or a memory check is just that ! I tell people if disturbed during a check start again ! The first wheels up was in Karratha, see seven news ! I'm not hunting this guy but second one with DC aboard and if it was a 747 tell me you think it would be ok ! He has 9000 hours ! Does he do checks or not ?
  14. The previous incident was in Karatha !
  15. Dear Mr Ian , I'm obviously offended by your commment ! I know you work for ASA ! I've met very good ones ! You are unknown and offensive ! The pilot is guilty of two wheels up landings ! He used a friend to stop an investigation on a second incident ! The first incident isn't finished yet ! I heard of another C337 pilot before doing two in the same crash comics in WA some years ago ! It clearly shows poor airmanship ! I do not know this man but find it very sad he has no regard for checking ! Would you have the same attitude if he landed a 747 fulll of people with wheels up ? Please answer !
  16. Two wheels up landings is not just a minor error ! You are rude and very forgiving of a commmercial pilot with 9000 hours ! Commercial pilots are taught discipline ! Private pilotes are taught disapline ! Commmercial pilots are meant to have a very high experience and disapline ! Two of the same mistakes is not good ! You give him a break and you fly with him ! I wouldn't for all the tea in China !
  17. Yes I do and you are very aware of that ! You are very uneducated very obviously ! I hold a PPL and an RAA CFI rating with APA ! How about you can you fly ? Wheels up no big deal ehh ? TWICE !!!!
  18. Because the commercial pilot operating is not competent ! Please bear in mind I still use and teach BUMFISH for RAA pilots BRAKES, UNDERCARRIAGE, MIXTURE, FUEL, INSTRUMENT, SWITCHES, HATCHES & HARNESSES ! Done for a reason ! Generic landing checks for all ! In case you fly a retractable ! Don't forget this guy has 9000 hours and is commercial ! A private pilot would be diffferent ! Just a mistake ! A professional should do routine checks blindfolded !
  19. Would appear he does not use checklists or does not do any checks! I would not fly with him nor would I expect anyone else to want to ! Casa should be protecting the public ! Is this an example ! The head guy thinks he is a good pilot !
  20. You only die once in a crash ! This is a second gear up landing ! He is commercial ! Does he do checks ! Obviously not now and not before ! The phone is not the main issue ! The mistake is also just a mistake but being the second is a little much ! Being a friend to D.C is a bit strange for first gear up to be investigated and this one not ! Excuse me for being a little slow in checking self reporting ! He should report he does no landing checks because it interferes in his social life ! Please ! Is his memory up to speed ?
  21. Did you bother to notice that was the second gear up landing and they had not finished investigating the last one ! Why investigate the last one and not this one ! It’s very obvious if you listen to seven news interview or read the newspaper article ! So what caused the mishap ? failure to put wheels down ! That’s quite a significant mistake showing failure to check ! He is commercial not private ! Big difference ! Should have banned himself from gear up landings not just phone calls !
  22. 'Wheels-up' landing puts air safety minister's flight in peril www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/wheelsup-landing-puts-air-safety-ministers-flight-in-peril/news-story/121e31aa70ad1cc1e45e4fc8dd9b5502 6 hours ago ... The cabinet minister responsible for air safety was involved in a “wheels-up” landing after the pilot became distracted by a mobile phone and failed to lower the landing gear, in what the regulator dubbed a “serious incident”. Transport Minister Darren Chester was travelling in the back seat of the light plane ...
  23. Notice had another, not the first time !
