I think you'll find it's only ADSB-In
Yes exactly - I have out on the aircraft already so the skyecho is overkill. They do look like a good thing though.
-
I now have ADSB out on my aircraft. Have just purchased a uavionix PING ADSB receiver to display ADSB traffic on OzRunways. Have not tried it yet but should give similar input to the Skyecho at a fraction of the price.

I have only had the dubious pleasure of 1 hr in a Foxbat - aside from their , hardly unique, short field capability, not impressed!
I enjoy the Foxbat. Not particularly fast but otherwise a nice aircraft. And its comfortable for my 6'2". I must get back in one - have not flown one for almost a year.

Are some people confusing QNH and QFE in this discussion ?

I love OzEunways, have used it almost from its inception, and have no intention of stopping just because of an ownership change. Maybe in the future if all the dire predictions in this post come true I will change my mind but not until it actually happens.

I have found the DG floats a little too quickly; it required constant monitoring every five minutes even with the latest update. Installing the AVMAG and splitting it between both heads rectified this totally; after 90 minutes and three inflight clearoffs DG is still aligned to mechanical compass.
Thanks - yes got that feedback so I have ordered the mag as well
-
I have gone for the TailbeaconX and AV30C as well. Being installed next week. Looking forward to seeing how it goes. For me it killed two birds - my DG was dying so will use the AV30C as DG.

Try this…
Phone Bankstown Tower, give them AN ETA and ask permission to come
in NO RADIO.
If you have a Headset with Bluetooth capability you could phone the Tower at one of the reporting points and they will talk you in.
To confirm this,I just phoned the tower and they said no prob!
PM me with your phone number if you want further advice and help
I have that as a back up - but cant find where they publish a direct number these days.

from the back page of KY97A Pilots guide:
"turning the units on while holding the transfer button down will bring the unit on Active Entry and load 120.00 MHz as the active frequency. This will aid the pilot in blind tuning the radio in case of display failure"
might work together with a handheld as plan B
The panel mount Icom radios might also be slide in rack compatible, I can't remember.
Thanks for that ! Will give it a go

Isn’t the ky96 the 24 volt version ?
-
Hi folks, my ky97a has lost its screen. I have to ferry the aircraft to Bankstown in the next week or so to get new radio amongst other things. While a handheld will probably work I was wondering if anyone in the Sydney / Camden area had a serviceable ky97a lying round I could borrow ?

I live 5 minutes from one airport where no hangars available, 15 minutes from another where hangarage is about 800+ per month - bought a hangar about 50 minutes away will have to see how that effects my flying.

If only casa would do things in a reasonable time. 29 business days after doing my medical and I am still waiting !

IF you have ANY condition that would preclude you from exercising the PRIVILEGES of your licence . you should advise AvMed immediately. Who does THAT?
I did - when I was pretty sick ! Now waiting to get my medical approved 5 years later - long delays in CASA !!

I was part of a 6 ship safari to White Cliffs a few years ago, with one of the aircraft being a C172B. The safari was in October and temps were around the high 30's for most of the trip.
We planned a lunch stopover in Louth on our way from Bourke to White Cliffs. The bitumen strip at Louth is long enough, but it was recognised the climb performance of the fully loaded C172B on a hot day would be a critical risk in getting back out. The command decision was taken by the PIC to forget the stopover, overfly Louth and continue on to White Cliffs.
That flight sounds familiar !

The compression or leak down number only say what each cylinder is like. The cost of replacement or overhauled cylinders is not huge.
However, on a little used engine the big problems will come from internal corrosion and deterioration on things like camshaft, etc.
When I bought my Auster it had done only 3 hours in the last year. One cylinder had 36 while the others were 78. It had corrosion and leaking round valve seat. This was fixed and the total was about $1500.

Brings back memories. Quite a few hundred enjoyable hours flying SNQ including on my honeymoon!
-
Well, I’m looking at retirement and a move to the Gippsland Lakes. I’ll probably have to sell the Auster.
Don’t sell the Auster Kaz. It’s painful

I only met Ido last month and went for a fly with him. He seemed a very nice guy and his enthusiasm for all things aviation was infectious

With my current cancer there is no talk of cancelling actual licence. In fact CASA are keeping in touch with progress so we can start the process of getting medical back. While the process sucks it certainly attainable.
there was an article not that long ago of a QANTAS flight that was crewed completely by people who have recovered from cancer.

IF you are serious about tripping about Australia get a good used C-180 and learn to land it. Some of them are built to seaplane standards of corrosion proofing and are stronger in some places also. Planes operated near the sea and left unhangared are very suspect long term. Most conventionally built planes can be repaired pretty successfully if damaged and if it's commercially worth doing. The hiwing Cessna's are one of the best for getting out of hot and high(er) places. Definitely one of the best flaps (fowler) in the game. Nev
Nice one Nev ! The C180 is one of my all time favourite touring aircraft.

You are absolutely correct Nev !! About 50 aircraft out in the parking area plus a lot of hangars open.
For some reason I can't edit that post to currect
