  1. Buggerd if I I know!...They probably realised it wasn`t very smart to have a full page of incidences and accidents in a monthly magazine that is intended to promote safe, fun, recreational aviation.Frank.

Hmmm, could be wrong but I seem to recall discussion on this about the time the newsletter of the time became a magazine available to the public at the local newsagency - didn't want to turn people away from taking up our sport.

  2. Frank that big croc is the one that was stalking Pud at the riverside camp when he was at your place. If he had just stayed another day or two..............Maj...008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif

If I'd stayed another day or 2 I would have been dead for sure, but not from the croc. From you guys and your antics - I'd have been worn out!!!

  3. Well for mine.....

Easiest would be the Gazelle - did my navs in a Gazelle, which was pretty easy given you didn't have to fly the thing whilst sorting where you were going.

Next would be the Drifter, in which I did my ab initio training - a great aircraft that I will always have a soft spot for.

Then the Lightwing - never did master the Lightwing because I couldn't land the buggar, so transferred to the Gazelle.

Hardest by far would be T500 Thruster which is my current aircraft. It took a long time for the Thruster(and Steve Vette) to whip me into shape, and I now consider myself reasonably proficent in the Thruster - but beware familiarity!!!!

I would really like to get back into the Lightwing now, and finish what I started all those years ago. I reckon I could do it now with a little bit of instruction.

  4. G'day Pud, No spare parts and running like a dream.! 360 trouble free hrs to date.I`ve just got back from a short flight and on the way back I flew the course of the Mulgrave river, just north of here. It`s a low tide at the moment so I thought I might see a crock on a sandbar. There were 3 that I estimated to be between 2.5 to 3 m on one sandbar and a monster of 4 m or better on another ( I`d been told that there was a big one in that area ) and I didn`t have my camera. I sometimes see 1 but it`s the first time I`ve seen that many in such a short distance.

Never know what you might see from a Drifter. 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

    Frank.

I know exactly what you can see from a Drifter Frank; still have very fond memories of taking in the sights from your Drifter, and that includes the back of your head!!!

  5. Yup, same here. I haven't bothered to go online either for the Flight safety Mag. Plus not everybody has the internet.

    That's funny, neither have I.

I wonder how many people don't bother with the Flight Safety mag anymore.

Sport Pilot doesn't seem to hold my interest anymore either. But my interests, being at the rag and tube spectrum of our sport, doesn't get much exposure these days - probably too many ol' fogies like me who won't get off their arses and contribute. So these days the pile of unread Sport Pilot magazines is getting higher and higher. Could be a saving here if it went electronic.......

  6. Pud, "Upstart" is nothing else but an endearing term for an aviator in the take-off mode. I would see it as a complement! 096_tongue_in_cheek.gif.d94cd15a1277d7bcd941bb5f4b93139c.gif

Hehehe, as long as Riley is commenting, it's a compliment.

I'm more than happy to be described in the way you have explained eightyknots - always very happy when I'm in takeoff mode:plane:

  7. Good to see you`re still here also,Pud! I was begining to wonder. How`s the Thruster going?I`m about to go down and finish putting my 503 back together. Pulled it appart for inspection and to remove carbon. We havn`t received the rain that was forcasted so I should be able to test fly it in a couple hours time.

    G'day Frank,

Yep I'm still here and chipping away, although had a health scare recently - I'll PM you. The Thruster is performing faultlessly on the 582 blue head, although I don't get to fly it as often as you get to go flying.

Make sure you have no parts left over after putting that 503 back together eh?

  8. He could of course be referring to the font family Pud ! In any case I think we can look forward to many more arial posts from 3000' , at least until the new toy novelty wears off anyway . And don't forget the ' see and avoid " Maj .Bob

    G'day Biggles,

Never thought about the font angle - I take it all back Maj, and keep posting from on high

  9. Pud, you picky little bastard, have you forgotten that the Queenslanders spell (and do everything else) differently? Fancy chipping the Major you horrid little upstart. 004_oh_yeah.gif.82b3078adb230b2d9519fd79c5873d7f.gif

I figured he needs some exposure to criticism Riley; for when he becomes a "Board/Director/Committee member" - or whatever the position is known as these days:wink:

You've cut me deeply using that descriptive term "Upstart"049_sad.gif.af5e5c0993af131d9c5bfe880fbbc2a0.gif

  10. Pud I will put my appology in now! I am flying over to WA (via Qantas) on the 31st of May so I can collect my bird from Katanning and fly her back to Kingaroy in Qld. But I wish you blokes in the west all the best. I did enjoy the event in 2012 and would have liked to be there again. Maybe one day!101_thank_you.gif.0bf9113ab8c9fe9c7ebb42709fda3359.gif

Orr, come on mate!! You will be experienced in crossing this wonderful country in your Skyranger. How about doing it the other way now?

Still, I'm sure we'll have a great time Puk.

All the best and good luck with the flight to Kingaroy - what an adventure.

  11. Pedestcon - if descent in less "draggy" aircraft can be started turning onto base why can't an aircraft that only climbs at 200ft per minute be permitted to climb to say 400ft on takeoff/upwind and then turn crosswind. I was under the impression that 500ft circuits were for aircraft with <55knot capability so that they could keep their circuits tight.

See planet47's post number 7 above.

    Pud

  12. I fly a Thruster, so 500' circuits. My understanding is that you must, no matter what your cruise speed, not change course after take off until you reach 500' AGL.

I fly all legs at 500' above airfield level until turning onto final, then start the descent down final. In less 'draggy' aircraft than the Thruster, descent may be started turning onto base.

  13. Hello Colin, 098_welcome.gif.81ff07d492568199326e4f64f78d7bc6.gif .You reckon it`s been raining at Mackay! Here at Deeral, we`ve coped 12 inches/ 304.8 Millimetres just in the past two days!

    Frank.

It's always beautiful weather in Deeral Frank! Hope you are keeping your feet dry, and more importantly, keeping your Drifter dry.

    All the best.
