That's another example of why you are a good airman Maj:thumb up:
A good example for all to follow. Well done.

The base stock and size seems to be the same for both. Also has a very small identical number printed on the reverse side of both my cards - 9033-06/2011 whatever that means. Are these the same cards used for rego labels on aircraft?Should not be short of those lately with so many aircraft waiting on rego!Pud

I think you are on to it Nev. Or could it be a slightly out of balance prop?Could just be a harmonic or the "phasing" of the prop with some part of the aircraft structure aerodynamically. NevPud

Congrats Tim,
Saw you on TV last night.

I'm only a lowly Thruster flyer, so what would I know, but looking at the video I see the aircraft looking like it has an extreme rear CoG - uncontrollable probably, which bears out the premise of cargo shifting rearward. Why then after the stall does it not drop tail first? By the time it impacts the ground the nose is well down.

How do I get that sound as a ringtone?

Thanks Exadios, I found that most interesting.
I was interested in the RASP weather software; I became aware of this software through a friend of mine who flys gliders from Beverley.
I have started to use the web based service just to get a feel for what conditions will be like where I fly my Thruster, since it is hangared 3.5 hours away.
The program has been most useful although I'm still learning how to interpret the charts.
Cheers,

Thanks for posting the video Mark.
Nice little sideslip there on final, and a great landing.

Good to see you are as feisty as ever farri:wave:Hey Pud! Hoo ya callen old and crusty? Hope it isn`t me!I'm gonna have to post up some more Thruster videos to stave off the Drifter competition I think - what else ya got biggles? I'm off to the hangar on Friday so I'll take the video camera with me.
I hope all is well with you and Fran.

Noooo!!! What a turncoat, fraternising with the bloody mexicans.Yeah Pud he certainly lives in a beautiful part of the world , ( well most of the time anyway ) , and what a contrast to that part of the world you live in . Didn't think he would ever venture further South than Innisfail , but have it on good authority that someone answering his description was recently seen in Melbourne , would you believe !BobAbout time he (and you) ventured to the best (West) part of the continent I reckon. Come and get some dust in your eyes:wink:

Hmmm, strangely familiar, or maybe not so strange!
It's a great part of the world for flying eh Biggles. And what a way to see it; in a Drifter.
Good stuff and thanks for posting. It brings back memories of the back of that crusty ol' blokes head:roflmao:

I certainly wouldn't hire him to push a wheelbarrow - there'd be nothing in it by the time he got to the work face!!!He would be now fully qualified to obtain a job pushing a wheelbarrow. Alan.Pud

I can't vote for you Michael, but thank you for your career summary.RA-Aus Board Election 2013 - Candidate for NSWMichael MonckI grew up around radio controlled planes so I think that's where I got the bug. From a very young age I was fascinated by anything that could leap into the air and seemingly defy the laws of gravity. I'd play with toy planes, fly models and build hot air balloons just to try and get a bit closer to the sky. In my teens I joined the Australian Air League and got the chance to fly in real planes. As soon as I was old enough and had the money I took myself down to the Royal Newcastle Aero Club at Rutherford and began taking lessons. That was in the early 1990's and since then I have gained my PPL and RA-Aus flying qualifications together with various endorsements.
At this time I am an owner and executive director of a company that provides professional advice to bodies large and small. The organisations I advise include large corporate entities through to small non-profits and pretty much everything in between. I have served on the boards of several clubs and associations as well as providing advice to boards of some very well known Australian companies. In addition to this I have worked internationally and provided advice to many companies and governments throughout the world. My formal qualifications include a First Class Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Adelaide and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne. I have also received training from highly ranked institutions throughout the world including the US and Germany.
RA-Aus is now a large National body and needs to move beyond the aero club style of management that may have served us well in the early days. With revenues in excess of $2m per annum, over 9000 members and some 3500 aircraft on the RA-Aus register, the safety, regulatory, financial and legislative risks we face are significant. As many of you are aware, particularly those who are directly impacted by the ongoing aircraft groundings (at the time of writing there are still some 400 aircraft awaiting registration), RA-Aus has suffered from a lack of direction in recent years. CASA has taken the unprecedented step of restricting our association’s ability to operate due to repeated oversights on our part and an absence of effective measures to address deficiencies brought to our attention through a number of audits.
If we are to provide an environment in which our members can engage in flying that is affordable and relatively free of red tape then I believe that we need to have systems and processes in place to satisfy the appropriate authorities that these risks and challenges we face are being adequately managed. The current situation at RA-Aus is one where this is not being done effectively (as has been demonstrated by CASA revoking the authority to register aircraft) and our privileges are under threat.
We need a board with the breadth and depth of experience, knowledge and skills to move our association forward. We need to change the way our association works from an ad hoc reactive organisation to one where member’s rights are protected through proactive efforts. We need to use member’s funds to provide services that offer value, shield pilots and aircraft owners from the bureaucracy that is CASA and provide an environment where we can fly without worry that our registration or pilot certificates are under threat. My formal qualifications, skills and experience will help RA-Aus move towards a future that allows us, as an organisation, to achieve these ultimate goals of fun, safe, affordable flying.
Should anyone wish to discuss my board candidacy I am available via email at [email protected] or mobile phone on 0419 244 794.
My business derives income from consulting on management issues to various companies which includes airlines and airports as well as numerous government departments with respect to aviation related matters. I have no income derived from aviation with respect to the type of aircraft and flying overseen by RA-Aus.
You sound like the type of person who would be very beneficial to have on the RAAus Board.

Tell them it's for an off road vehicle.I would also like a set of new wing and aileron skins for the drifter. Horizontal stab and elevator skins are new. Can anybody recommend a sail maker on the Gold Coast or Brissy ?I was also wondering what most of them would say, when they found out the sails were for a Ultralight.Pud

Too true Mark! I thought about it for some time before posting.... And still got it wrong. You read it wrong Pud your thinking of KPH not MPH130 mph = 113 kts and 110 mph is 95 kts 60 kts is 111 KphOh well.........
Pud
-
Dunno if I read your post correctly Mark, but 110mph is about 60kts I think - you can go nowhere real fast at 55-60kts, as I can confirm in the Thruster:smile:I just looked at the specs again they have changed they now quote 130mph VNE and 110 mph cruise...that is very good actually it was less than that before ....that isnt on the superstol as there seems to be no specs on that but anything around 90 to 95kts is great you can still go somewhere. My concern is the cabin size I think it maybe still a bit squeeze for big buggars like me and a pax....need to see one in the flesh.........ok someone buy the kit and I wiil put it together ......I want to build another aircraft I dont have the spare bucks or a benevolent relativeDoes anyone know how many highlanders there are out here in OZ wether VH or RAA rego? It would be nice to see one in the flesh as the only difference is the wingPud

Wayne had a very good online facility for designing the colours for your new wing skins. It is still available here http://xsymetrix.com.au/wingskin/ie5/index.html?dhtmlActivation=inplace
See what you think.
ausadvance, my reply assumed Taskers in WA.
Pud
-
Yep, I knew they had those there - pity they didn't fit my Thruster.I gave them a call and they can help. They even have some made from 3 years ago made for the wrong model. Is it a full set of skins you need or just the wings?
Pud
-
John,
My skins were made by Wayne Fisher as well so it would be real good if that service was still to be available even though we have lost Wayne.
I do know though, that in WA at least, you can get Taskers Sail Makers to make them. I have spoken with them and they just require a pattern to work from.
Do a search on sailmakers in the Brissie area - could be your answer.
Pud
-
It would help if we knew your location John.
Do you have the old set of skins to use as a template/pattern?

What grounding?
About a month ago I was asked for information to allow my re-registration due 7th April 2013 - an extra photo showing registration numbers on starboard side. I sent off all the photos required anyway, plus the usual annual requirements such as hours flown etc.
Just received email notification, with attachment documentation, that my aircraft is registered.
I feel for people who are having trouble getting aircraft registered or re-registered, so don't get me wrong. but my personal experience is positive.

Welcome PP,
Nothing lke another Sandgroper to bolster the numbers; we need it!
Where are you based and what do you fly mainly?
Pud

I spoke with Wayne a couple of times on the phone when he made the skins for my Thruster.
He seemed like a quietly spoken, genuine nice guy.
RIP Wayne.
