  1. We considered living in WA when we migrated from Guernsey in 1970 as it appeared to have everything going for it, and what we were looking for, the only drawback being its distance from the other states. We have visited WA a couple of times since and love the place our most recent trip across the nullarbor being to visit a particular speciality shop which we do not have in SA, well worth the drive.082_scooter.gif.e6a62d295b0b59b8276038871473d864.gifAlan.

What specialty shop would that be Alan?

We are all special over here:augie:029_crazy.gif.9816c6ae32645165a9f09f734746de5f.gif022_wink.gif.2137519eeebfc3acb3315da062b6b1c1.gif

  2. Hey all,After reading about the angelflight.org outfit in a recent magazine (Australian Flying, from memory) I decided to look into this worthy organisation. After reading the background information and stories on their website, I decided this is something I want to be involved with.

Now, I don't have my ticket just yet, but one way I could get involved and get my foot in the door so to speak is by volunteering as an "Earth Angel"... Simply put, the pilots volunteer their time and aeroplane (fees and fuel are reimbursed), but once the person gets to the airport, they still need volunteers to pick them up and take them to or from the hospital or whatever.

Anyway, I'm proud to say that I have signed up to be involved in no matter how small a way, and I am sure that one day when I am fortunate enough to be able to fly (and have the requirements met), I will be able to give back by flying some missions to help those in need.

    Check it out on http://angelflight.org.au

    cheers

I do believe naremman does angelflights. Maybe send him a pm for more information.

  3. Ian, you just failed holidays 101. You need to learn the following five steps. Consider this your remedial class.Step one: set an email auto reply advising you'll get back to emails starting on a certain date.

Step two: divert home phone to mobile for all calls.

Step three: set message on mobile answering service to indicate caller should call back after a certain date as messages will not be checked.

Step four: turn mobile off. Put in bottom drawer.

Step five: whatever you like... you are now free.

    Ian,

Don't just like Adam's post.... DO IT!!!

    Now buggar off.

  4. Sometimes when your too close to the action you miss important things......I thought this was understood but just in case it isnt.........

The form Im asking to be filled out doesn't commit you to actually being at the meeting (although if you can great) just that you believe there should be a meeting.

So if some have held off on the form thinking it was commiting them to being in attendance at Canberra shortly that is not the case. If you think a meeting should be held, but cant be there yourself then filling in the form and returning is still a significant help towards achieving that outcome........

We want all completed forms back to us by the 28th of November if at all humanely possible!.......So....what are you waiting for?

    Andy

    Done!!!

  5. Well if you are going down that track you won't have my support . You are making an assumption I would say. Are the problems you speak of , really at the cause of the problem. Is a return to the past a good idea.? I believe those types are only flown by a minority these days and most have 2 stroke engines. I have flown them and am a fan of them but not everybody wants to fly that kind of aircraft. Your organisation will be pretty small. Too small to have much say? perhaps.

Fracturing the show is the wrong way to go. We should be MORE united NOT LESS. Eventually we will be under a bigger umbrella not a smaller one, if we survive. The solution is not as simple as just doing what you propose. I am quite prepared to go to battle to protect the rights of the more basic aviators but you are happy to just kick some members out. It's just a tad offensive. Nev

How about 95.10 and 95.25 bail out Nev, and set up under the old AUF. Leave everyone else here with the status quo? Or would you call that deserting our fellow aviators? It's not kicking anyone out, it is as it should be. As for not having a say, or at best, a minor say - most 95.10 and 95.25 flyers, in my opinion, would be very happy with that.

  6. So much for having things up and running again Tuesday week ago?Now I have an aircraft that's expired, and contacting the office today (Wednesday), I'm told it may go back on the backlog list after Friday?

I say let LSA, older GA pilots and CASA's RPL all go off under CASA, and we restart the AUF for 95:10 and 95:25!

Thrusters, Lightwings and Drifters were only built to basic standards, but they got a lot of us to where we are today with very little problems, and acceptable cost.

    At last, some sanity!!!

    I'm with you pylon500

  7. Hi there all I will soon be heading out to Perth with my Australian wife and two kids, I currently hold a UK licence rated for flying Flexwing. I am expecting to work my work to having my licence converted to and AU one,

My question is about summer fly, I know from my experience when flying in France that when it’s a hot day your best to fly first thing in the morning and then as late as you can in the day as thermals will create a load of turbulent air, is this the case in Perth?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

    Mark

    Short answer... Yes!!

I want to go flying in the central wheatbelt on Saturday but it could be a tad uncomfortable.

Current forecast is for 36*C maximum with 14knt winds in the morning moderating to 7.5knt in afternoon. Given that the temperatures all week have been above 30*C I reckon there will be some serious 'bumps' around the place. I have some maintenance to do on the Thruster in the morning so my only chance for a fly will be late afternoon, and even then could be a no-go situation. We'll see....

So to answer your question Nutnudger, it is definitely the case of picking your days to fly in summer around Perth - or at least in the inland areas.

  8. G'day country kid, haven't seen you around here for some time.

I was speaking with a forumite, who goes by the name 'friarpuk', at Whitegum Farm during Westfly recently. He tells me there is an old Drifter in the back of his hangar at Katanning, owned by somebody else. As it turns out, the Drifter has the name 'Red Rocket' on it, so is probably the one I did my ab initio training in at Narrogin with Rod Jarrold back in the late 90's.

Anyway, don't know if it's available but you could start enquiries by a PM to friarpuk on this forum to get some details.

    Good luck,

  9. Well there was the Bristol Freight - straight to the bottom without a trace (and that had two engines, then there was the poor bugger in a life jacket and thermal suit. An RPT circled him for several hours while people worked out the range and lift of a helicopter and found he was beyond reach. No boats/ships close enough and he was never seen again, and those are the ones I remember. Thrilling as it is to fly over water, you can't land on it, and tou can't rely on anyone getting to you. Jetstar and local hire is cheaper and more reliable.

    My thoughts exactly TP!

I reckon I'll plan to fly down there later next year, do a 'lap of the little island by camper', then look up cficare for a spot of memorable flying.

    Sounds good to me.
