  3. Hi Andy, Nev, It appears that the effect was on temporary thank heavens. It's working fine since I've taken the offending screws out. Now off to get some brass screws or Bluetak :) Again, thanks for your assistance.... Cheers.......Doug
  4. Hi Nev, I'm hoping that as soon as I remove the ferrous screws it will come good. The thought of disassembling is quite scary! I'll provide feedback as soon as I can.... Cheers.......Doug
  5. Hi Andy, Good point. I'm not sure what the composition of the screws are that hold it - probably mild steel. I'll take it off tomorrow and check whether their removal fixes it - watch this space! And it is the Southern Hemisphere compass. Cheers......Doug

I've installed this on the top of my instrument panel but unfortunately used a screwdriver that was magnetised as it is now extremely reluctant to turn and will only move about 15 degress when rotated 360 degress. Does any one know how to degauss something of this nature (the compass not the screwdriver )? I've gone to the manufacturer's site but they only have a phone or snail mail contact. Thanks for that Darren - I'm probably a little bit sensitive when it comes to speculation as he was originally described by the media as a "student pilot" irrespective of the fact that he held an aerobatic license for 15 years. That said Ch7 were around my sister's place yesterday and were warm, kind and compassionate - not at all what I was expecting. The resultant piece on the news was done very tastefully and full credit to them. Doug
  8. People, It was my brother in law that died so I have a little more information that I won't divulge as there is still an ongoing investigation but I can assure you it wasn't fuel starvation. His body was also left in the a/c until the ATSB came up from Canberra about 7pm from memory and in speaking with the Senior Investigator and there was never any suggestion of them being "pressured" to attend. You'll probably also note that the accident site was a "No Fly" zone in the Notams today. Maybe we should leave the rumours to that other forum? Doug
  9. Bryscen was actually doing his BFR with Keith. Whilst he normally did compete in a number of Aerobatic Competitions (and has the trophies to prove it) he was actually flying to NZ tomorrow to attend Wananka. Doug

  14. Hi Ross, I'm on ADSL but about 3 Kilometres from the Exchange so my average is 27.5kb/sec! I'm also on a "capped plan" with Telstra which means after I've used my 10Gig they "shape" my d/l speed to 64kb/sec - so basically it means I'm unaffected. Irrespective - whilst it does take a little while to load the pages it's certainly not that frustrating - as you surmised, I believe his problems lie elsewhere. Cheers........Doug
  15. A Tale of Two Prawns Far away in the tropical waters of the Caribbean, two prawns were swimming around in the sea, one called Justin and the other called Christian. The prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by sharks that inhabited the area. Finally one day Justin said to Christian, "I'm fed up with being a prawn; I wish I was a shark, and then I wouldn't have any worries about being eaten." A large mysterious cod appeared and said, "Your wish is granted." Lo and behold, Justin turned into a shark. Horrified, Christian immediately swam away, afraid of being eaten by his old mate. Time passed (as it invariably does) and Justin found life as a shark boring and lonely. All his old mates simply swam away whenever he came close to them. Justin didn't realize that his new menacing appearance was the cause of his sad plight. While swimming alone one day he saw the mysterious cod again and he thought perhaps the mysterious fish could change him back into a prawn. He approached the cod and begged to be changed back, and, lo and behold, he found himself turned back into a prawn. With tears of joy in his tiny little eyes Justin swam back to his friends and bought them all a cocktail (the punch line does not involve a prawn cocktail - it's much worse). Looking around the gathering at the reef he realized he couldn't see his old pal. "Where's Christian?" he asked. "He's at home, still distraught that his best friend changed sides to the enemy & became a shark," came the reply. Eager to put things right again and end the mutual pain and torture, He set off to Christian's abode. As he opened the coral gate, memories came flooding back. He banged on the door and shouted: "It's me, Justin, your old friend, come out and see me again." Christian replied, "No way man, you'll eat me. You're now a shark, the enemy, and I'll not be tricked into being your dinner." Justin cried back "No, I'm not. That was the old me. I've changed........." (You're going to love this.....) .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .."I've found Cod. I'm a Prawn again Christian."

  18. PJ - With reference to radio control, try the Reflex Model Flight Simulator or equivalent. These normally plug straight into your transmitter via a dongle from the PC. Saved me a fortune whilst I was learning to fly choppers! Cheers........Doug

  25. Thanks Paul, So am I to infer that there is no set mandate from CASA regarding standardisation of locking systems? Essentially, if bolt cutters are defeated then it's OK? It just that I'm building the Skyranger soon and thought that maybe this could be something I could add whilst I'm building rather than as an add on afterwards..... Cheers.......Doug
