Hi Maj - I was the Sportstar on short final for 23 and I'd given all the required calls, mid-field crosswind join, downwind and base but was aware of being over transmitted at least once so I apologise for not repeating. I did notice you taxiing for 23 but was more concerned with the muppet that departed 05 with no calls that either myself or my passenger heard! From the angle you were at it would be very difficult to see anyone on short finals but I was pretty sure you'd notice us as we landed :) Cheers.....Doug

I built a Swift a couple of years ago and it took approx 500 hours. I've got nearly 200 hours up so far and still can't believe what a brilliant aircraft this is! Greg Robertson, the agent has just gone on holidays otherwise I'm sure he's chip in as well.... Cheers.......Doug

You'll have to define suitable Heon, lately it's been suitable for ducks.....

Looks like it's going well - not that you'll need any incentive but I've now been flying mine for just over a year and it's an absolutely brilliant aircraft! And with the 912ULS and one stage of flap it climbs like a lovesick angel (pun intended) :) You've got an awesome amount of fun ahead...... Cheers........Doug

This is the NewsFlash from the SAC president........ Dear SAC member This message is to clarify the details of an incident that occurred at the airstrip on Monday evening. Our member, Fayez Abbas, experienced an engine failure in his Volksplane VP2 on final approach. The aircraft landed in the trees 50 metres short of the airfield boundary. Fayez emerged almost totally unhurt. He has a sore finger. The aircraft is extensively damaged. One wing is severely damaged, and the severity of the damage to the remainder of the aircraft is, as yet, unassessed. Four police cars, a fire engine and an ambulance attended the scene. Fayez went to hospital for precautionary examination, and was released shortly afterwards. David Rittie

OK Ross - I'll see if I can find you on Sunday. If only you had a distinctive aircraft............

Great! Come and say G'day - I should be hanging around my Skyranger most of the time. Cheers.........Doug

Don’t miss the opportunity to see the action and displays at the NSW Sport Aircraft Club’s Wedderburn Airfield, just south-east of Camden. The NSW SPORTS AIRCRAFT CLUB is an association of aviators interested in fostering and developing flying and sport aviation in the Sydney Basin and is the home to a large group of like-minded enthusiasts located in a congenial bush environment. We have an open day each year to share our passion with the community. A further aim of our open day is to demonstrate to the local community our desire to be a good neighbour. To support this aim, a variety of community based organisations as well as local aviation businesses are invited to participate and promote their particular speciality at our bush airfield. Further to this, we believe that your attendance would add to and support that ideal. If you have access to an aircraft, we invite you to take the opportunity to fly into Wedderburn on Sunday 8th November. We would certainly value your interest and support. There are no landing or parking charges for your aircraft and free entry will be provided for yourself and your passengers. FLYING IN YWBN: S 34 11.2 e 150 48.3 Runway 17/35 950m sealed. Elev: 850ft. LH circuits. Be aware of the close proximity of R555 to the E. Check NOTAMS on: NSW Sport Aircraft Club - Wedderburn UNICOM: on 122.55 MHz Callsign “WEDDERBURN” As we are expecting a large crowd in excess of 2,000 it would be advisable if you could organise that you arrive by 10 am and at the conclusion of the day, depart at around 4 pm. If you intend to do an “interesting” arrival or departure, then we would like you to co-ordinate that with Greg Ackman on 0425 355 500. He will be managing the sequencing of “special” aircraft. For general enquiriess call Margaret on 0425 380 966 or David on 0425 380 965. DRIVING IN Wedderburn Airfield, Lysaght Rd Wedderburn Take the Appin Road South from Campbelltown and turn left into Woodland Rd. The trip is approx 10km from this point. There are two ‘T’ intersections along the way – turn right at both of them. Continue until you come to the main gate and continue a further 500m until you come to our parking attendants. Admission is $2 for adults & $1 for kids – proceeds to Angel Flight. HEAPS of STATIC AND FLYING DISPLAYS! While the day is not an “air show” there will be plenty of aviation activity including a heart-stopping aerobatic display at 12 noon by the Aust champion, Richard Wiltshire; Combat Dragon’s A27 Dragonfly at 1pm; l39 Albatross from Aircombat; WW2 Harvard trainer from Curtis Aviation; several historic aircraft from HARS; Glider and Pawnee tow plane from SC Gliding Club + Helicopter joy flights. Wedderburn has a Security Guard that lives on the premise so there is no problem regarding "locked gates". Cheers........Doug

The series appears to be based on the sum of the digit plus the digit ie 1X1+1 =2, 2X2+2+6, 6X6+6=42, 42X42+42=1806 so my calculation makes it 3263442...... Cheers........Doug

We had considerable trouble with ours cracking and splitting before we had finished the build. Turns out they were a known issue and a lot of people replaced theirs with the black ones - from memory they're available from Flylight in the UK Flylight Airsports Ltd. - Tuition Greg Robertson (Skyranger Swift) in Victoria just went through the process of uncovering his fuselage and replacing his and eventually I'll have to do the same . Thought it might save you the grief.... Cheers.........Doug

Hi Friar, Looking good! Can't tell from the photos but if you're using the white plastic spacers it will pay you to swap them out for the black ones. Have you joined the Yahoo Groups Skyranger Forum? There's a wealth of information there. Cheers...........Doug

Hi Geoff - we filled up with Avgas at Narromine on March 29th and paid $1.71 a litre. Cheers.......Doug

Thanks Andy - if there's no commercially available connector I'll just source a panel mounted one from Jaycar and change it over myself..... Cheers........Doug

Does anyone know where I can purchase the BNC connector to mate with a GTX 320A? It was purchased second hand so has zero accessories. Cheers.........Doug
-
Hi David - we saw you overfly on Saturday, we left at 8:30 and Greg at 10:00 so all the Skyrangers were gone by midday! And for all those who camped at Narromine a quote we can all relate to from Dave Barry: It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent. Cheers........Doug

Quite a few of us left this morning (from Narromine) so at least we got the Thursday and Friday. Short but sweet :) Cheers........Doug
-
I chose white for its fade resistant properties but I did stick strobes on the wing tips so we could be seen...... Cheers.......Doug

I don't have an ASIC card and have flown into Wollongong a number of times with no problems but assumed it would be required for an open day - bugger! Cheers........Doug
-
Hi Bruce, Do you think they'll be checking ASIC cards? Cheers.......Doug

Hi phvdw, Have been using Evans Coolant in my Rotax 912 ULS since August with no problems. CHT runs between 80c and 100c in a variety of OAT's. Engine hours 65. Cheers.......Doug

Hi Skykid, The latest Australian Pilot (the magazine produced by the AOPA) has a flight evaluation of the Grumman G-44 Widgeon...... Cheers......Doug
