  1. Yayyyy another Jack Flyer post! Thanks Flyerme
  2. and what me even more is they are still getting it wrong. Rather than looking only at aircraft being re-registered (fine, nice starting point, good job) why the havn't they spent some of the massive pile of cash on some temporary staff to go through the rest of the registered aircraft fleet and tag ones that might cause problems. That way they can arrange for documentation/inspections/whatever the they need well in advance of re-registration and nobody would be in the situation where their aircraft is sitting unregistered and unflyable for weeks on end. And i'm betting that the aircraft rego area isn't the only problem area either... To the board and executive (not that I think you'll ever read this). Stop being such panzyarsed wimps. Nobody actually cares who made the original mistakes or how longer ago they were or that people have submitted shonky paperwork. People care because you havn't done a thing to make sure it doesn't happen again. Your doing the bare minimum. learn from the mistakes, get proactive and try and figure out what else is going to bite you in the . Hire and auditor yourself if you want. we've got the money and I'm certain nobody would begrudge it.
  3. The original failure of the CASA audit, may have been due to years-old mistakes, but the subsequent repeated audit failures are the fault of the executive. The first failure should have sent the "oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t we need to sort our crap out" message loudly and clearly, and the executive should have responded. Instead, come the 4th Audit failure CASA gets fed up and revokes RA-Aus's authority to register aircraft and the executive finally take action. "It all happened so long ago" it . Seriously???? 3 attempts to get it right after your told its wrong and you still cock it up???? What a load of :censored:donkey:censored: I might be a little bit irritated.
  4. Nope, nothing is sacred. Its pretty clear to me that the RA-Aus membership has a significant proportion of people in its makeup who would fall into the Quinquagenarian, Sexagenarian and Septuagenarian categories (mostly because they've had sufficient time to build up the loot and free time to enjoy the hobby). There are probably a whole bunch more who wish they fell into the Sexagenarian category, but thats just because they are blokes and stopped reading the word after the first three letters. Its actually you old buggers who are discriminating against us poor, hard working middle-aged types, and the sooner you realise it and provide appropriate compensation in the form of subsidies for aircraft rental etc the less it'll cost you when the revolution comes.
  5. wow, this thread got feisty over the weekend. I still havn't received a response from any of the board members I emailed, however the release of the audited financial report last week has answered my questions. Turns out the board members I emailed could have responded with "No, your not correct and we'll be releasing information on that in a couple of days". Because they didn't bother I'm left with the impression that they a) don't care about RA-Aus or b) can't work a computer. Either way, they wont be getting my vote again (actually only one of them did before, but what are you going to do.) Personally my biggest problem with the board and president is the poor communication. Members are hanging out here because they love RA-Aus and love flying. Many have concerns that could have been alleviated by simple, accurate and truthful communication, which the Secretary, President and the board should have facilitated. I imagine many members, like me, are feeling very frustrated at the moment. For the board members who have taken the effort to come on here and post about whats going on - Thank you, your doing better than the board members from my state. Despite what you guys may perceive as attacks, we do appreciate your efforts to keep RA-Aus members informed about whats going on, and we appreciate the fact that you guys are reading the forum posts, which will no doubt help keep the board informed about the things RA-Aus members are concerned about (and for that matter, the views of GA and Commercial operators who have concerns about RA-Aus). These forums could be a fantastic tool that the board could use.... And on the "free mason conspiracy" - who cares! Its like being worried about RA-Aus being run by old caucasian males...
  6. Is it just me, or is there a discrepency between the stated revenue and the cash flow from operating activities? I'm not an accountant, but it seems to me the cash flow receipts shouldn't exceed the revenue figure, because you know, thats revenue. Any accountants care to educate me?
  7. Just to be clear, I'm in favour of a moderate, reason based approach. Having the membership storm the RA-Aus offices in Canberra wielding pitch forks and burning torches would be entertaining, but just a tad counterproductive. Scheduling the next RA-Aus General meeting (after the feb one obviously) for Halloween could be really good fun though. You guys are clearly doing better me on getting responses, I'm just after some pointers. Maybe I'll start by asking the rest of the board the same questions.
  8. I've been having trouble getting a response to an email from the President, Secretary, Finance Manager and the NSW board members, and I'm wondering how other people manage to get a response from their board members. Can anybody give some suggestions on methods that have worked for them? The method I tried was an extremely polite email to the President and Secretary (given the president's hissy fit over other emails, i thought being polite might work), and after days of no response I resent the email to the finance manager (my questions were about financial reporting) and the remaining two board members, asking for a response, or for them to encourage the president and/or secretary to respond. Its now been a week since my first email with no response at all. Is it best just to post my questions here, and then whip everybody up into a frenzied mob that the board can no longer ignore?
  9. It may have been previously declared. When did the legal action commence?
  10. Really enjoying those flyerme - thanks very much.
  11. I had a flight scheduled for the weekend just gone at a flying school, but couldn't fly because RA-Aus hasn't processed the rego yet. I wonder if the RA-Aus will compensate the flying schools for the loss of income.
  12. Along with the list of things Captain had listed at the start, i'd also like to know what, specifically, RA-Aus failed in each audit. If its pretty much the same thing each time, then somebody really needs to be beaten about the head and shoulders with a clue bat.
  13. Motz, I know you want to move away from the Jab's, but the following information from QLD fair trading may be of use when negotiating with Jabiru for them to repair/replace the engine: 1. Acceptable quality A business guarantees that goods will be of acceptable quality. This means that they must be: fit for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are commonly supplied - for example, a toaster must be able to toast bread acceptable in appearance and finish - for example, a new toaster should be free from scratches free from defects - for example, the toaster's timer should not fall off when used for the first time safe - for example, sparks should not fly out of the toaster durable - for example, the toaster must function for a reasonable time after purchase, without breaking down. This acceptable quality test takes into account: the nature of the goods - for example, a major appliance such as a fridge is expected to last longer than a toaster the price paid for the goods - for example, a cheap toaster is not expected to last as long as a top-of-the-range one any statements about the goods on any packaging or label on the goods - for example, the toaster box shows a special defrost function any representation made about the goods by the business or salesperson - for example, the supplier said the crumb tray was easy to detach and clean. The guarantee of acceptable quality does not apply when: the business or salesperson alerts you to any hidden defects before the sale you examine the goods before the sale and did not find defects that you should have noticed you use the goods in an abnormal way. I'd recommend talking to fair trading about the issues your having. They may be able to help you work with Jabiru to sort out these problems.
  14. The main problem your facing isn't finding a plane for $20k that can do 100kts, its that the weather makes guaranteed "you'll get there faster" fairly improbable. If you "have to" get there, take a car. The problem is weather conditions often make flight in light aircraft unsafe. You may face delays of days or weeks while you wait for the wind to die down enough for you to fly, or a sudden change in weather may prevent you coming home - what will you do stuck 4 hours from home? is accomodation available to you? can you afford to be away from work for a day on short notice? Realistically you also have around half an hour on each end of the flight to take into account as well, for doing things like your pre-flight inspections, engine warm up and run ups, taxiing, refuelling, tieing your aircraft down etc etc. and that doesnt include your transit time to and from the airfields, time taken to plan your flights etc etc. Thats going to eat into any time advantage you'll get from going faster and more directly. If, however, your after a plane you can occassionally take for a 4 hour flight, when it isn't critical for you to get there on time or get home on time, and maybe go for a joyflights or flying holidays in.... thats a whole different story.
  15. not to be a smart arse, but the warning about this changover happening has been at the top of the briefings for about 6 months now.
  16. Thanks for the info Sapphire. My understanding of how the "it doesn't stall" worked was the front cannard was set at greater angle of attack than the main wing, so that it stalled first which forced the nose to drop slightly before the main wing would start to stall. and that pretty much stops the main wing stalling, unless your pretty aggressive on the entry to the stall, or in some weird attitude when it hits. My understanding also was that if the main wing did stall the handling/recovery would be slightly problematic. Can you shed any more light? whats it actually like to handle in a stall?
  17. When I started flying the good team at Goulburn had thursdays, fridays as well as the weekend available for flying. I did most of mine training on fridays, either taking the afternoon off early to shoot up to Goulburn or taking the day off and going. As much as I loved the flying, I also got a lot of pleasure from knowing all those ****s who had been making my life difficult all week were stuck at work while I was having an absolutely fantastic time cruising around in a little ultralight. I'm glad to hear Goulburn might be offering weekdays again - I'll be making use of that.
  18. I call marketing bollocks on the "they don't stall". tape some red wool to strands to the wings and take one up. Get lots of altitude and then go through your standard stall routine. Watch what happens to the wool. feel how the plane porpises along as the nose drops in the stall and then picks itself up again when the speed increases and the cannard starts flying again. Oh, and please video it and stick in on youtube. Or even better, come down Canberra way and take me for a ride in one! Personally I love the look of those planes. damn sexy aircraft. If anybody is interested in building a new one (or rebuilding one) the opencanard project may be of use. http://www.opencanard.com
  19. *snip* self edited due to excessive prattishness. apologies to all. There was a thread a year or so back about jabs being hard to start in cold weather. It can get pretty chilly this time of year down in Nowra, so for me I would have been expecting it to be hard to start. Mind you, I have exactly 0 hours behind a jab engine and that issue may well have been resolved. I really don't know squat.
  20. hi all. team mini-max have made their plans available for free. Great little single seat aircraft. http://www.teammini-max.com/downloads/
  21. pretty sure taking money for the fuel would come under the heading of reward.....
  22. ohh I forgot about the timing thing..... I never found speeding up the exercises harder personally, so I keep forgetting that aspect of it. Definately do what Boingk said...
  23. Sol, if I remeber from the photos you are pretty skinny. Based off what some of my friends went through one thing the recruiters may be concerned about is your physical fitness and/or strength. Start doing some basic exercises most evenings - alternate between doing push ups and sit ups one evening and jogging, cycling or swimming the next. For the push ups and sit ups you want to start with something simple and easy to do without needing to stop for a rest - i.e 10 repetitions of each. On the second week increase the target number to 20... keep working at it until you can do 20 in a row without needing a rest. Once you can do that, move on to 30 and so on. Once you can do 50 each night your exercising then keep at that level for a while, but gradually introduce slightly longer holds in the down position (or up position if your doing a sit up). If you get injured then lay off the exercising until the injury heals. After all, you want to be fit and healthy when you front to the recruiters office. Ignore all that if your buff, obviously. Gym work is fine too if you like that sort of thing.
  24. looks like your right - i just checked the strips near my place and they arn't showing up. interesting that. mind you, at least 2 of them wern't ever strips, according to the locals.
