  1. Thanks for the replies Yes dlegg, the Clarity Aloft do seem expensive for what they are hence asking the questions here. If I am going to go that way I would just like to make sure they are worth the money. Have seen the Quiet technologies one advertised to Dazza and they could well be as good just haven't any of them in my ear etc to be able to try them. No I haven't tried the Gel ear pads robinsm as I have always just used the Headsets from the plane that I hire but have now purchased my own and would like to try and get something that is more comfortable. I am not concerned whether that be bud type or Bose, David Clark or any other brand just want the most comfortable. Just want buy once and get the right one. Regards Stewy
  2. Hi All Have been thinking about buying my own headsets and came across the Clarity Aloft Product www.clarityaloft.com Just wondering if any body has any experience with them etc. I tend to get sweaty and sore ears with the standard type headsets in the jabs that I usually fly due to having to wear glasses. Willing to look at all options but would like to only buy once and happy to pay for a quality product that makes it more comfortable and with quality sound etc Regards Stewy
  3. Just thought that we may be interested in the cause of this engine out. It was an exhaust valve that broke. So fits the bill of other failures, I think that there was excessive clearance in the valve guide. I believe Jab supplied a top end overhaul kit approx 12 months ago but don't know who preformed the work at this time. Regards Stewy
  4. Just wondering who people use for their aircraft insurance. Have done a search but all posts seemed very old and looking for updated suppliers. Any help much appreciated just looking for the right service and reasonable price with no hidden traps Regards Stewy
  5. Correct I bet there will be some form of they shouldn't have been there Stewy
  6. And I think that you have done a great job in providing that view Motz I have only flow Jabs during my training and since (About 80 hrs in total) and have never had any reason to doubt them. My instructor is like you in that he is religious with maintenance and has done plenty of tinkering with his engines. Current engine is a test engine from Jab, has done about 500 hrs I think and runs really smooth He has about 15000 hours in them so I do trust him and i enjoy flying them. I am not going to ground myself because I have a Jab engine up front I will continue to look for emergency landing spots as I fly no different than if I had a Rotax or any other engine up there as I was taught, and practice my emergency procedures as taught as well. Life is full of choices and as adults we can make those sort of decisions and should be able to discuss them openly. Sounds a shame Jab dont seem to listen but i have never owned a plane so dont have that problem hope they help you with this problem. Regards Stewy
  7. Yes that is right it is an Albertross and headed to WA,Broome to be precise, to do tours to the horizontal water falls apparently. Was in Swan Hill on Sunday and took off for Lake Alexandrina. Was here for the Catalina Flying boat Museum opening on the weekend. Certainly was loud enough but it did sound good, I have some photos on my phone but stuffed if I know how to put them up here and they are only just as they were a bit far away.Took a video of the takeoff too but it is a bit far away too got to about 50 feet and banked left must have different rules for sea planes!! Had to park my ute under the left engine and get ladder on to the tray so they could look at oil leak but all seemed ok in the end. Really nice old plane though Stewy
  8. Yes Motz my radio was working I got a response back from ctaf when giving taxiing call. His radio worked as well but he only used it to let me know he was going to follow me on departure. I could not even read his call sign on side of plane as it was faded to much. Yes bill it was poor form to use my sons birthday as an excuse to go for a fly he he but he liked it Stewy
  9. Thanks for the replies. It was more the fact that he didn't say anything that I was more concerned about I get a little bit protective of my safety when I have my kids with me not that we were in great danger but that is how s##t happens as they say. Next time I will speak up Regards Stewy
  10. Went for a fly the other day with my 9 year old son for his birthday. Taxied to the runway giving taxing call for 26 and proceeded with run ups and checks etc. Noticed a plane at the fuel bowser on my way past (172 cessna I think) but took no further notice as pilot was still out of aircraft. Finished run ups and give a call entering 26 and backtracking 08 for the about 2-3 knot wind favoring 08 noticed another planes shadow on taxi way and assumed it was waiting at holding point.Taxied down runway and turned around at the end to see said Cessna 50 meters behind me! Not one call on radio at any stage so I double check mine to make sur I am on the right frequency and am. I was shocked to say the least and didn't say anything except to give a rolling call with my intentions. As I had my son with me I did not want to start rambling on the radio about what I would have thought was a bit of common courtesy to ask if he minded if he taxied behind me and followed me after I was clear of the runway. Just seemed to me to be not the right thing to do but maybe I am barking up the wrong tree! It is not about RA vs GA just weather it was right or not! I would like your thoughts Regards Stewy
  11. Thanks for the photos looks great sorry to interupt the coffee :-) Stewy
  12. Would have thought that photos would be appropriate of this wonderful sounding unit! Sounds good though Stewy
  13. I payed $150 per hr dual when doing training And wet hire at $100 now Stewy
  14. Good work I find some of the commercial pilots on the bank runs etc the worst they blurt it out that quick that you miss the first halve of the transmission by the time you realize the radio has broken it's silence Stewy
  15. Just mallee scrub. Not overly thick I believe Trike clipped first tree and whacked second one and burnt There were apparently areas to land around but didnt make it hence speculation of heart attack etc. Engine appearers to have been running according to crash investigator Stewy
  16. Yeh not good at all Too close to home as well only just up the road. Not a good accident either Trike burnt on impact Condolences to the family. Stewy
  17. Give me a call happy to supply anyone with their needs. Freight may be a problem to some places but if I can help happy to do so Supply locals with 10plys etc for the jabirus etc so the rest can't be too much of an issue Regards Stewy
  18. Got the chance to take up my first pax last night. My 7 year old  The great big cheesy grin in his face when I slipped the headset on his head was worth every cent it cost me for the ticket:big_grin: Took him for a halve hour flight and he loved every minute of it, was bloody hard to hear the radio as he was asking that many questions but it was great fun having him in there with me. Must have enjoyed it as asked if he could go again tonight. Stewy
  19. Thanks Acky It was great fun even better when the right airfield shows up in front of you and you realize that the planing was right  Also a good to make it back home as well, you will have a great time it does get a bit busy in the cockpit at times but it is all worth it, look forward to hearing about it Stewy

  23. Thanks for that Guys. May not have explained myself quit right I thought I read a post about flying with some one there on a joy type flight through the hills. Not even sure in the same part of nz but thought I would try and find out but cant seem to find the post Regards Stewy
  24. Have been searching for a post relating to flying in NZ that I read last year but cant seem to find it am heading over there in May and would like any info re flying around the Christchurch area Regards Stewy
  25. Still couldn't tell you of the top of my head. I only want to be safe and competent so I can get home safe and not put any other person in danger. I got my certificate a couple of weeks ago and I Can't wait to be able to take my sons and wife up for a fly when endorsed, but I want to know that I can get them back safely under any circumstances. It took me 20 years to finally start flying from the time I thought about it so I don't see a few extra hours as a big expense when I consider the cargo I want to carry! Stewy
