Hi All, Took this plane to Temora at Easter and had a favourable reaction to it. I have made a 62" x 38 prop for it and tried it and got 80 lbs of thrust....was a bit impatiant as it was not sanded real smooth, and no clear coat. The old 54" prop gave 110lbs of trust. Next step is finish the prop and a line of white paint on the belts (thanks Andys) and see what I get then. And a tacho

Well...... had another go on Sunday and still not getting in the air. I had a couple of airman watching the taxi tests and they said there seemed to be heaps of revs but no thrust from the prop, (54") And it does look a bit small for what it has to do. So I am thinking a bigger Diam and pitch. But.... I have been offered a Cyunna 440 with a gearbox on it and prop which has previously been in a Neiport Bi Plane and it flew well, so another option.

Ha Ha , very funny Riley, the dogs hypo , I reckon she'd be worth a dog and a half at least.. I will have to get a tacho that works, I have a 2"Falcon one in it at the moment but dosen't want to work. I am taking this plane to Temora at Easter to display, come and say gday if you are there.

Hi Maj/Flyerme, The drive has 5 small vee belts on it and two were a little loose so I have put 5 on it that look about the same tension, this is without any adjustment done on the top pulley to tighten them up. I will have to sneek up on the tensioning, I dont' want to over tighten and chew out the crank bearing. Prop is 54" diam and don't know what pitch, Don't know rev's as the tacho isn't working yet. Engine has done moderate hours but seems to run nice. I have thought about putting a toothed belt on it , 2 pulleys and belt cost 250 dollars from Pies and an bit of machining. Anyway will try again this weekend and see if things have changed. Cheers Thanks for your help.

Hiya Fellas, Gotta join in this thread about the lighter side of flying. I have just finished the 95.10 in the pic , it has a Kawasaki 440 with a 5 belt drive on it but not enough power to lift off. It weighs 156 kg's empty. Do you think the Kwaka has enough pull to do the job. How heavy is your thruster? Cheers.

The foam comes in sheet form and is actually building insulation for walls, I think 25 and 30 mm thick. Dow Corning product. Each one of those ribs weighs 230 gramms with the cap strips. You don't really need to worry about lateral/sideways strength with ribs as the covering top and bottom takes care of that so would think that sandwich panel would be overkill. Cheers

Hello All, I would like to add my bit to this discusion , The pic has 30mm wide foam ribs with .6 ally cap strips top and bottom. Sikaflex bonds the cap strips to the foam and pop rivits on the front and rear spars. The plane in my avatar has foam ribs.

Hello All, I have question about thrust. I am putting a EA81 in a High wing two place I designed. The Soob has 2:1 Belt drive CD 175 Stromberg off a Range Rover going into the standard inlet manifold, reground cam and inch and a quater exhaust with muffler. Propellor is a two blade Warp Drive, 70 ". Hooked it up to the fence and got 220 lbs of thrust. How much should I be getting? I am in the middle of making a larger inlet manifold and inch and a half exhaust so should breath a lot better. I have seen a 912 with three blade prop gets around 340 lbs of thrust. Cheers

Hiya Pete, I would think Tas Oak (Gum Tree) would be too heavy, I have often thought Celery top pine would be agood alternative to spruce and then i would think Hoop pine would be in the same strength /weight of Celery, If you find a supplier of Hoop could you let me know, need to make a prop.
