  1. Hey Doug From memory the 582 rotax redlines at 6800 rpm 3:1 ratio means 2266 max prop rpm you should set the pitch of the prop so that with the Bird tied down and max throttle the engine will develope about 6400 max rpm this should allow it to reach 6800 when on the move. This means the prop is running at max efficiency for that engine prop combination . If you set the prop pitch finer than this (similar to low gear in a car) you will get better take off preformance but you risk an engine overspeed (not good) if you set prop to a courser pitch (high gear) the bird will Theoretically cruise faster but the engine will not develope it's full h.p.( also not good) Hope this is helpfull to you. Regards RickH
  2. Hi Fly-tornado No mate it's an R90S and some where on this forum there are some photo's of it. No reason why it could not be done same way to the R100 as far as I can see looking at the R100 photo's is that the flywheels of the two engines are a little different and if I could get access to an R100 engine it should be a fairly easy thing to do some CAD drawings to allow CNC machining of the parts. I have often contemplated doing just that but as yet have just been otherwise occupied. Regards Rick
  3. Cheers Glen nothing like having a few spares around. Appreciate your input re performance. I have been seriously considering the Bolly as my gut feeling is that I may be able to utilise a 62 inch bolly on both engines Rick
  4. Hey Frank The Acft I have is a midwing version of a Texas Parasol there is a picture of it posted in a thread (building my own) on this forum (thanks again to Thomo for putting up the photo for me)and as of yesterday has taken me 4 years to complete, started from scratch, the prop is the last requirement. I don't mind what I see of the bolly but given that my eventual intention is to swap out the 503 for the BMW I'm just trying to get out of buying a new prop for an engine which may have only a short period of usage(depending of course on the progress of BMW completion). Rick
  5. Hey Eastmeg do you still have the Ivo, is it in reasonable nick, do you want to sell it and if so how much, At this stage I'm not too fussy, as eventually I intend replacing the 503 with a 67 hp BMW engine and may have to buy a new prop for that installation anyway. However I am keen to give my bird a run with the 503 and at this stage am weighing options. regards Rick
  6. Hey Frank can be either or, something I forgot to mention is needs to be three blade. Regards Rick
  7. Hey Guys I'm looking for a prop to suit my rotax 503, "B" G/Box. Tractor config 60 or 62 inch. It's the only reason my bird is still on the ground.
  8. Interesting Stuff david your reference to cuttle fish skin makes me think of some of the automotive paints which appear to be different colours depending on the angle from which they are viewed. Rick
  9. what does this imply for painting aircraft yellow or does the colour of the dots not matter. Just wondering. RickH
  10. If you can get a look at a set of engine power/torque curves they will give you H.P. output at selected R.P.M. You can decide from there if you need a PSRU or not. RickH
  11. Thanks heaps for the upload Tomo. and thanks for the favourable comment Dazza. when I finally get around to sorting out my upload problems I'll put up a blog showing the progressive build photos. As you can imagine it.s my pride and joy
  12. cheers mate will give that a go Rick
  13. Need help can any one out there direct me to a freebe type programme that will allow me to condence and upload photos for the web. Regards Rick H
  14. Alchemy coming together not sure if the photo upload will work
  15. Perhaps the oil being refered to above is soluable oil and in the old days before the intro of the glycoltype coolants soluable oil was the usual in most water cooled engines RickH
  16. Hey Guys I have an almost complete Scratch built aircraft A midwing based loosely on the texasparasol and have 40 hours up flying in an X-Air. Have been putting off getting my licence until mine is flying( hopefully by this christmas) The midwing is a taildragger. I had limited experience with taildragers 30 years ago. Ihave discussed this question with my instructor but am curious about athor opinions on the likely differences in handling of the two types. X-Air being a tricycle U\C. regards Rick
  17. There you go Powerin you seem to be fairly up to date on this stuff, looks like I had only half the story
  18. Hey Guys Correct me if I'm wrong but I as far as I am aware noise cancelling on headsets is a function of the Microphone and not the earphones I read a very good article somewhere on the construction of noise cancelling mics, has to do with the way the coils inside are constructed and seem to recall that they (the Noise cancelling ones ) have two coils in them instead of one. I wish I 'd taken a bit more notice of the article and could explain better but if you google it I'm sure you'll be able to find ample information. Rick
  19. Hey Guys to cover an ultra light using the stits process is pure simplicity. Buy their manual, read it a few times prior to commencing work and you will be surprised just how easy it is. I just finished covering my second Acft with it and could not recommend it more highly. in the words of some one "hav a go ya mug" you'll be a mug if you dont.
  20. Hey John If you read the rotax literature they recommend the fuel pumps are piped in paralell with non return valves also incorporated.
  21. Cheers Glen I'll try to upload a photo of my bird
  22. high Glen Thanks for the input. How does the Bolly compare price wise. Regards Rick
  23. Much appreciated Geoff I will certainly look at the brolga.I do like the Idea of pitch blocks, positive lock. Yeah you're right regards ratio, in one of my previous posts I said 2.54 :1, as you say it is 2.58. Cheers Rick
  24. Hey Fly Tornado Thanks for the tip. Had a look at the website Ivoprop could well be the way to go.What are your thoughts with regard to their quality. Had a chat with a LAME (Engines) mate of mine and he reckoned that the idea of one prop to suit both engines should be "quite do able". I like the way Ivoprops are adjusted. Regards rick
  25. Not familiar with Ivoprop but if they use pitch blocks then the blocks would be marked somewhere. I assume that by 60x3 you mean three bladed.
